Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

OMG i've mastered slide and i am A MINI GOD out there in pilot v pilot. Averaging 40+ kills a match and that's with flying around the map, no camping.

But yes you definitely need an elite or scuf for this.

Man Respawn is so close to perfection with pilot play, it just needs tweaks!!!

Or you can just claw...

Anyway, is bunny hopping still in?

I am enjoying pilot v pilot quite a bit. The fights are really fast, games are quick and do not last long. And I finally found a comparison for the unresponsive controls/movement. It feels like the jumps in DOOM without having the rune which enhances jump control. Definitely a step back.

ok, the trick is you need to slide before you hit the ground, pretend you're bhopping but instead of jumping you're sliding, and you're still doing the same motion with the left thumbstick, (holding it to the sides).

it's fast, not bhop fast but fast and the gunplay is superb and i'd dare say better than Titanfall 1.

stim being slow to replenish while ttk being faster is what is really pissing me off right now. they fix the stim and man i will love this pilot play more than the first game!

Kinda surprised to see a lot of negative impressions in this thread

I agree that Bounty Hunt sucks but the full game will almost definitely have Attrition so whatever

The maps are fine, I don't have any issue with them

It definitely takes too long to summon a titan but it sounds like they're fixing that

The traversal is just as fun as it's ever been

IDK I'm still interested in the full game although tbh I'm far more curious about the single player this time

Scratching my head at the way you are supposed to rodeo a titan in this game. Rodeo encounters in TF1 made for some memorable encounters but it's just repetitive here. I do like the addition of the batteries, though.

They basically rebooted the franchise so "new players will feel welcome". I wish the best for Respawn, but wish they didn't do this. I am always saddened when developers don't "trust" their own game.
Holy fuck. Nothing pisses me off quite like reading this article. I need someone to put a positive and sane spin on this. There's a huge difference between "they hurt the unique feel of Titanfall 1" and "Fuck Titanfall 1". Maybe I'm being too shitty and cynical about the article, but that is where my head is at now.

I have to agree with a lot of the criticism here. This is not sinking its claws in me like the first one. I have played several one off games and I am not wanting to play subsequent games.

I'm kind of turning around on this, playing more of the bounty mode. I got several titans and figured out the battery mechanic. I think it's kind of odd to have to get out and grab the battery and get back in, but it works. And I like the back and forth of it.

Coming around to this game, I think it's much better than my first impression. Hipfiring the SMG is a lot of fun too.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. The second jump feels really weak just like in Doom.

After playing 2 years of Destiny that has a higher TTK, I don't think I'm a fan, you die too quick, bah, idk...something feels off. I love how everything feels from the wall running to the grappling hook to the sound and impact of the weapons.

I will get it for the campaign, not the multiplayer

how can i play multiplayer with my buddy? everytime when we make a party and one of us is joining, the other is left behind.

buggy?

I guess that's ok as I'm treating TF2 as if it's not existing.

My only fear before playing the beta was that with it being a multiplat now the servers might be worse than before. But wow this game stinks...

Curious if the first game really is that much better, mechanics wise. Since I sold my Xbox One, I just picked up the first game on PC with all the DLC for 10 bucks. It's downloading now.

Of all the changes, I think Rodeo is the most disappointing for me. I miss the classic cat-and-mouse between pilot and titan. I hate how it's fully scripted now; jump on, player does nothing while the game makes you grab a core, or drop a nade, and jump off. I'd love the old system back but I don't think they necessarily need to lose the new stuff. Got me thinking...

Rodeo a titan. You are on there until you jump off (or the pilot ejects, or it dies).
Just chill. You can ride around if you like. Drop a titan on it if you can.
To shoot its brains out, pull your trigger. System is the same as classic TF.
To steal a battery, press your melee button. You can still ride around till you jump off, but nearby enemies will see you clear as day with the battery indicator.
To stuff a 'nade down its gullet, press the 'nade button. Don't forget to jump off!
Combo all of the above... Jump on, steal a battery, shoot its brains out a little, finish off with a 'nade, jump off.

Oh... I see :'(

No dude. No. It's actually faster. The gunplay is faster. I mean, if you were good at T1 with how fast it was, you can go faster here in terms of gunplay.

The combination of the slide, no wallhang, insane stim boost, and more accuracy while jumping and shooting.... you can really destroy people lol

Only way I've found to consistently play with friends is to make a network, have them join, and then invite the network. After each game back out and reinv. The invite friends button doesn't even work for me.

I'm a huge fan of TF1 (have it on PC and later on X1). This wasn't bad. I've Dl'ed the demo on X1 (doesn't need active XBL sub, it seems) and PS4 and will try both this weekend. Tried X1 an it ran great.

As for the game, I stuck to amped hardpoint, and did not suck as much I feared so, yeah, I'll be buying the game and will decide on which platform after playing both.

I played about 6 rounds and managed to get into my Titan once.

But in the first game it just meant everyone used electric smoke because rodeo attacks were very powerful.

In this game there's a benefit to hopping on, stealing the core, and running away to boost another Titan or your own auto Titan.

The batteries are very powerful to have and it's worth rodeoing to steal them.

Yeah exactly. They should have evolved features of Titanfall 1, not take things away or replace them.
Regarding the Titan Battery they could have made that take away the shield of the Titan when its stolen.

The more and more I play the game the more and more I love it. The only thing I am disliking anymore are the maps but even those are growing on me as I find wallrun paths on each.

Titanfall 2 seems to really encourage cod style play. Titanfall 1 really discouraged it.

Can someone explain to me what this means? Because I really don't get it.

TF1 still felt like CoD style game at its heart. How is TF2 that different? Because there's spots on the map where you can camp? Am I missing something?

I've been checking out game play, but I want to know if something like this is still possible https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WWZ_6XfE42U

Where you can literally outrun someone, fast enough that they can't hit you.

The PC population is dead. If you're lucky you'll find some people playing Attrition, but the only place left where people are playing is Xbox One.

Tried the TDM mode, I never felt so helpless in Titanfall before. Dudes camping and sniping left and right. The ones who were mobile killed me as soon as I saw them, if not from behind. In R1 I could juke them like half the time. Not here.

Yeah, this sounds as a nice middle-ground. No battery, no shield. Nades with auto jumping-off is stupid though.

My guess is either the more defensive/campy playstyle you'll find in hardpoint, or the players who don't really make use of their mobility outside of double jumps to do what many CoD players will know as "jumpshots".

Since I sold my xbox one before the slim was announced i'm kind of tempted to pick up the original for PC, that itch to play has returned and it would be nice to start at level 1 again and unlock stuff.

This is what I would have expected if someone told me that you could steal power from a titan in titanfall 2 before seeing the beta in action, sadly the reality is a lot more gimped.

Wow. Can't believe this either. TF2 test makes sense now. Shame.

not really sure what you showed me there. that's not fast parkouring or bhopping or anything.

you can definitely outrun people in this with stim. flat out bhops are not possible. but the slide mechanic into a jump into a slide is fast not bhop fast but fast

TF1 still felt like CoD style game at its heart. How is TF2 that different? Because there's spots on the map where you can camp? Am I missing something?

I do SIGNIFICANTLY better in tf2 by playing almost entirely from the ground, cautiously moving around to a few campy spots. Using parkour only to quickly change location. Basically, as if this were cod but with parkour as an afterthought.

Tf1 was the opposite. If you played in the ground in a similar fashion to cod you were dead. In fact all the worst people you'd play with online were so bad because they played in this way. Tf1 encouraged almost non-stop parkour to get the elevation and speed advantage on players. The game was very fast paced with played darting around walls and playing vertically and with little camping. This is what made tf1 so special and tf2 so mundane.

I played some more yesterday, Pilot vs Pilot, and actually enjoyed it and did decent. I think the lack of a "mode" made it more enjoyable. There was just one objective. Deal with the opposing team. With Bounty Hunt I found half the team played the mode, the other half was just playing PvP, and it was just annoying.

Linear controls felt like Doom on steriods for me, way too fast, needed to go back to default.

Should I keep on Linear? or what the heck?

yeah this is the big problem with the game right now. It seems like the core of the game was altered rather than tweaked and that is really a shame. Saying that it is an old build really feels like a cop out but who knows, maybe they can change it. Kinda like Naughty dog ruined the uncharted 2 multiplayer 6 months after release and then in uncharted 3 but somehow managed to bring the magic of 2's original mutliplayer back with 4

Personally I find Titanfall 1 encouraged movement in such a robust way it seemed like the game's foundation. You couldn't really excel at the game boots on ground all the time. Titans were deadly in a more pressing manner and you had to be mobile to evade them and defeat them if you had no Titans. The moment to moment gameplay had you more on your toes with the AI, they could and did kill you (especially since gun battles were actually battles and a spectre could catch you lacking with low health), you could hack spectres and use them as a squad. I guess for me R1 had more reasons to be mobile and it rewarded the mobility in a satisfying manner. It rewarded risks and teamwork more while still having this air of uncertainty that made you keep moving.

Sign this guy up.

Fantastic suggestion, Respawn should hire you lol. Only concern is that there should be a clear indication to the Titan pilot on what you just did to him, or it becomes a tad confusing.

EDIT: or not, it doesn't matter anway as the pilot's first and only priority is to get rid of you, not worry about what you did to him.

I'm really warming up to it. I am loving the flow of the game in bounty hunt with the risk/reward of the deposit system. It also plays into the parkour because the players that know routes and get to the bank or the dz fastest get the most points.

The hate this game is getting feels like a bad first impression because of some differences. I think the Titan shield system is my only complaint now. I wish all titans had shield and pulling the battery caused it to be lost.

Folks have detailed their thoughts on the matter. I really wish folks would stop trying to trivialize those thoughts. It's fine if you like it, but it isn't as simple as a bad first impression.

Yeah, I'm done with the game unless they make some drastic changes. I never cared much for slow, campy shooters like CS, COD, BF etc. I spent years with TFC and Natural Selection. Then finally with TF1 we had a new game that was designed around movement and speed. And they ruined everything great about it with a slow, campy TF2. Because there isn't enough of those around...

Such a bummer.

Have you tried using the SMG? Their hipfiring is ridiculously accurate while running. It's really fun to get kills while wallrunning people trying to ads and aim.
