Final Fantasy XV - 50 min video

Do monsters only appear on the road at night?

I actually don't know! I'm just making an educated guess that if night time is truly meant to be as dark and foreboding as they've been saying (stronger monsters, etc) it would only make sense to not trivialize that by being able to sidestep most of all that by driving anywhere you want, hence big-ass monsters you have to take care of to proceed being literal road blocks at night.

That, and the footage specifically shows the Iron Giant being encountered at night, and being lv30 with creepy-ass music.

My gut instinct would be that having to get out of the car every few miles to fight would go against that 'cohesive experience of a road trip' during the daytime, but obviously none of us can exactly say for sure without access to the game. Maybe ask people who played at Gamescom?

Granted, in the way that it's being described in the other quote, that you're pretty much locked out of just getting back in the car and driving back the other way, would still be a niggling issue even if encounters on the road only happened at night.

Mmm idk the combat may not work for some people(even tho from the preview thread haven't seen a preview complain about combat or complain about anything really aside from the car). I think it's going to mixed alil but not in a bad way mixed.

I'm expecting deus ex level reviews, which is pretty good. I just don't expect the press to go lower than that.

In the beginning the player shows the entire map right, it's honestly not as big as imagined. It's like 10 duscae regions?
Don't quote me on this,lol.

Too late, bro! I'm quoting you! :P

Are we sure the map we've seen isn't just for the first beginning chapters of the game?

Speaking of map size... You have to wonder (in terms of Polish / bugs / performance etc) how about the areas we haven't seen and how they handle.

I wonder if only stronger monsters force you out of the car. If only daemons force you out and they only appear at night then that part might not be so bad.

I just want a button that makes the drive a loading screen.

Yeah. I wouldn't have much of a problem with it if it was limited to night hours. But the nights do become longer as the story progresses, right? It could be worse later on. Edit: And if I could actually drive away.

This a dinosaur image of the "entire" map tho.
How does it compare to the actual map shown in this 50 n vid?

What you saw in the 50 minute video is only the top portion of the world map.

It's not the whole map. It's just one island out of the whole map. There are many other locations that aren't in that island.

Here's a video that showcases many locations not pictured in the map. Altissia for one is a large scale city. As is Tenebrae(though I believe Altissia is quite a bit bigger).

Sorry, have to quote you. ;)

The map at the beginning of the gameplay vid was just the three regions Leide (desert), Duscae and Cleigne (foresty and swampy area). You travel in these three regions within the 5 first hours of the game. This is a 50+ game. ;) The much bigger part of the world lies still ahead.
They've said that about 50-60% of the world (regions and cities) are still completely unknown to us.
They've also said that the world gets more fantastical as we progress in the story which is getting me personally really excited. I hope that Tenebrae isn't going to be the only and the most fantastical place in the game. :)

Just what I want to hear.

I hope that's true for the story, too. The best FFs have always started out with a pedestrian military squabble and unfolded into something weirder and metaphysical.

It'd definitely be interesting for the reality part of it to slowly drop away as more fantastical elements happen.

Regarding reviews, if the game is good I could see it in the 80s. 90s would be astonishing for me really but I just can't see it happening.

The car does sound annoying. Nobody would willingly design it that way. I'm guessing speed is to help with loading (flying doesn't have same problem due to being far enough in the sky to hide loading with lower tier assets maybe?). And black screen is just them shooting themselves in the foot with their own animations and having too many awkward problems with it and possible things like other cars passing by, yada yada... all in all, band aid solutions to the fact that the game is underbaked.

Shucks, at least the part I actually care about (on foot stuff) seems fine, but tempering my expections has been doing wonders.

Despite everything what I wrote previously about FFXV, I honestly appreciate this attempt to deliver Versus XIII. I just don't think he succeeded with this plan worked out. In the end, it looks like everything they salvaged from Versus XIII into XV were its four main characters, the car, the general premise of a roadtrip and the actionized combat. It would have been better to just scrap Versus XIII entirely if they didn't want to pour anymore money into Nomura's project, honestly. They are not doing themselves a favor by burdening themselves with Versus XIII's hype and materials and FFXV is creatively compromised as a result of that.

I'd agree. I've been down on Tabata for a long time because we obviously knew he was changing a lot of things behind the scenes, but at the same time was trying to keep the allusion of the Versus project still around. Even so i really like his honesty here in the final few months before release.

Cause it is true, nobody is going to share the same vision by default even if they try as hard as they can to make things similar or take some elements and make them feel similar.

And i also agree with you that they should have just let Tabata make another game entirely and should have shuffled Nomura away to work on KH3 and FF7R much earlier than having him on the project for continuities sake and then dropping him after it was re-revealed at E3, which felt like a dick move.

Regardless of what Tabata says, i know that the higher ups definitely did not let him(or Nomura) officially cancel the FFVersus project because of how it would have looked for the company. And putting Tabata in the role of making a game that was not his into a game he felt happy with shipping, even if all of those previous assets were not his, felt like something untenable and may not work out even though we can see he gave it his best shot.

He deserved to make a game he wanted to make from scratch, even if it would have taken more time to come up with a concept for it and implement it into actual code. And i hope they allow him to do that at some point after this game is complete

Is the black screen only when parking while on the main roads? Because there is no black screen when parking here at that beach resort Galdin Quay:

No wonder it was there. Gladiolus and Prompto wouldn't have been able to get outside the car since it stopped right next to the crash barrier on their side. I doubt the AI is able to let them move over to the other side to use Ignis' and Noctis' car exits.
In gtav the npc just clip above the fence.

Lol, I thought you meant an "older design", not Old Noctis' design. I really like it, wished it was the main one.

What a surprise, another one of my favorite FFXV designs turns out not to be by Nomura.

If Ferrari just would show a bit of restraint when it comes to female designs (Cidney and partly Aranea, too), I would say get him on board as the main character designer for future FFs. Get Naora to work alongside him.

The older design, while nice, just highlights another one of the issues with keeping the younger design of Noctis. The older one looks literally nothing like him.
