What was once a patchy beard (I still have a quarter size bare spot on a lower cheek) has turned out really well I think. Stick with it and growth can take care of any early flaws.

It's definitely gotten me tons of good dating attention, and I've found my forever guy out of it. 💕🐻

What do you guys think? I've never had my beard and hair this long. I'm enjoying growing it out, and just recently shaped up the beard and trimmed the sides and back of my hair (including the taper) myself. I usually rock a short (plastic 2) fade and a neat(ish) beard, as seen here.

Should I keep it going?

Last time I went in for a trim he took off somewhere between a half of an inch and an inch! Blame myself a little because I didn't give him clear instructions, I won't be making that mistake tomorrow.

Getting a shape-up after 18 months of growth today. A little scared to lose length :/

Be very specific about what you want. Don't say "Take a little length off" but say "I want only 1/2 an inch off for the length" or something. Use hard numbers as much as possible.

@Khalifa Jayy: Looking real good man. That's awesome that you did that trim-up yourself. I'd say, let it keep growing and if you decide you don't like it, it's easy to trim it down.

I don't trust myself with scissors at all.
I just use my trimmers. Basically, I never trim into the beard. I simply trim the strays that continue to stick out after I have washed, brushed, and applied either a light wax or beard oil. Whatever hairs don't want to fall in line get the axe!

Only person you can trust with your beard is yourself

Looking good Khalif
Thank you. I agree. I only (sometimes) have my barber line up the top of my beard and always tell him to simply clean up what I have going. That's it. I bought a single blade razor, though, and have been using that to pretty good success.

Thanks! Yea, I got to practice a lot with the trimmers by giving haircuts to my nephews, haha. I need that self-cut tri-mirror system though! I always have a bit of trouble with the back and sides towards the back.

You look badass, dude.

Don't even think about shaving!!!!!!!!

Both hair & beard look impecable, very well kept :)

Gracias! I'm gonna keep it going for just a bit more, just to see what a slightly fuller beard and longer hair will look on me, but I think I like this style for me. Wish me luck!

Some great looking beards here! Khalifa you have to keep the beard and hair combo!!

Stump, post your beard post trim.

I took my favorite beard picture yet at the beach this weekend. It's glorious

Bro you're looking GOOD.

I think I lost about 2-3 inches. My mother, my mother-in-law, and my wife didn't notice a difference but I feel so naked. I'll PM pictures when I take someone, I don't like to post photos on GAF anymore since rabble rabble sociopathic 4cha people rabble rabble

So, I got my beard trimmed about a week ago after about 9 months of growth without a trim (besides my mustache and a bit along my very upper side burns to blend into my hair). I took this quick selfie immediately after walking out of the barber shop, so please forgive the stray hairs all over my shirt and face.

I like it. $25 + tip for a hair-cut and beard-cut. The guy did a great job of listening to me. Basically, he took a ton of bulk off of my upper beard, shaped it a bit, but hardly touched the length. I'll definitely be going back.

Oh, and here is some Prisma fun:

Going forward, I plan to just keep doing what I'm doing -- letting it grow longer, but maybe once a month get a tidy-up and take out some of the poof.

Did you have them blend/fade your cheeks into the longer part of your beard ?

This looks great, and is roughly what I tend to go for (straighten it down the sides, tidy up but don't touch the length). This time I think I'm going to keep the girth to see how I like it trimmed up, if I don't I'll go for the usual next time out.

anybody here dye their beard
I actually want more grey in my beard.

Looks perfect. He does a great job

By cheeks, do you mean the top part of my beard near the center of my face, or at the top of my sideburns? He faded in my sideburns, but I had him leave my upper cheeks as-is; I mean, he did a bit of trimming, but I requested to not have a strong/clean line-up done along my cheeks. I prefer it a bit more scraggly.

I have raced behind you Beard-GAF, I have stumbled and I have fell but in time, I will join you in the sun. I was just reminded of great insight.

So I'm now having to deal with a beard net for the first time in my life (started working in a food factory) and man, is it a nightmare. I've resorted to putting a hairnet over the bulk of the beard and then basically using the beard net to hold that in place and cover up anything that tries to escape. It's making me seriously consider making some significant modifications.

Only okay picture i've got of my beard is this one in profile. I've basically just been saving up for several months only trying to keep the moustache somewhat at bay because it's not really that thick, so it just looks sorta weird when it gets too long. Also it ends up in my mouth, fuck that. There's a barber here that specializes in beard that i'm planning to visit, because i'm terrible at keeping a jawline and all that by myself which is pretty much why i just gave up on it for now and decided to just let it grow a while and then go "fix this please" over there.

I'd have a hard time keeping my beard if I had to wear a beard net. That takes dedication.

Mustache looks good to me from that angle. Maybe it's thin from the front, but the profile view looks legit.

i just decided to actually start growing a beard. i usually let it grow a couple weeks and then just trim down to stubble when it starts itching but no more. i got some beard oil, trimmer, combs and tweasers. is it cool to twease rogue hairs? my beard grows in all white trashy like Keanu reeves so i can never grow a proper fuul beard but i get a dozen or so loose hairs in the empty spaces below my lips and i typically twease them but i read on a website never to twease

Why pluck? Just get a really good pair of tiny scissors (they sell some for body grooming) and clip 'em short. Plucking sounds really painful considering how thick a beard hair is, at least for me, compared to my normal hair.

And my beard is all sorts of grey. YOLO bruh!

Plucking doesn't really hurt me, for example if I have a rogue nose hair I just grab it with my fingers and yank.

I got a great pair of scissors . ill give it a try and see how it looks. Thanks

I don't drink often so going to a weekend bachelor party where I was at tons of bars drunk was an expierence. Quite a few women just rubbing and grabbing at my beard, sometimes completely randomly. I guess weird things happen when inhibitions are low.

This is the first time I've ever grown out my facial hair past stubble so I need some honest opinion here guys. No styling done other than combing, it just goes into a pointy, evil Satan beard. Excuse my miserable face.

The shape is great! As you say, Satanic :)
The stache looks a bit thin though, but if you grow it a bit more it should thicken up

The stache and the cheeks are a big sticking point for me, grow very little compared to the chin, which wants to take over my entire face haha. I'll keep at it though, thanks for the advice man!

I have a question beardgaf. What should I use for dry skin in my beard? It can get pretty bad around my chin and some patches of dry skin in the upper corner of my moustache.

How old are you? I was about 26 or so before my cheeks grew in well, even though I had a beard for years before that. :)

I'm 19 and started growing mine out for the first time in my life (4 years of military school)

It's itchy

How do I maintain it?

I've been having a similar issue on the right side of my chin. I find a couple days of anti-dandruff shampoo works for me. But to keep it from coming back, I have to make sure to dry it well, down to the skin and to use my oil.

Use conditioner when showering and beard oil after showering. Rub both in well enough so that they contact your skin, not just the beard itself. It may take a few weeks before it helps but this combination should work. You could also try just one or the other before jumping into both.

Maybe its the heat but my beard grew way more in this past month, especially under the chin. Getting a nice shape up tomorrow, it's longer than I'd like!
