Balms keep mine in check better than oils, but I haven't been able to use one without my beard staying visibly greasy (and feeling greasy as well) throughout the day so I tend to avoid - it might be that I was using too much however.

Currently using Captain Fawett's Booze & Baccy oil (and 'tash wax as it happens), and I'm probably happiest with this oil than all of the others I've used. Also really like Bobo's (which is great value) and this one from The Brighton Beard Company for any UK based beard GAF looking for recommendations.

not a dude, but my bf has a massive beard and I love it. I pretty much told him never to shave it off. He goes to a barber to trim it and take care of it occasionally and uses oil. He trims the neck and most of his co-workers have beards. I've never heard of a job here that would ask you to shave. But then again, I live in London.

I'm moving away from balm myself. As the beard gets longer it just makes it curl and clump and doesn't help my shape. Might just be how my hair reacts to it. And I'm barely using any

Yeah, I find myself using less and less balm. Just oil whenever needed.

Fun story; someone in my daughter's school told me I'd look better if I lost the beard. I responded that she'd probably look better if she lost 30 pounds.

She did not like that.

I did :)

I'm actually late to this thread, I grew/had a beard for about a year but recently shaved it all off. Despite having no beard for 28 years it only took one year of having one for me to forget that I apparently don't have a chin.

Don't like your chin? Can grow a beard?

I think you can see where I'm going with this.

You do know that you can use your facial hair to shape (fake) your chin, right? Right?

Been growing this for a couple of months

My beard and I with my Raiden hat at the swap meet.

You can always go back if you don't like it longer

edit
forgot to add mine to the thread

All these beards looking good!

I'll throw one in the mix. I just discovered with longer hair I should first comb up from the neck and then once it's all sticking out, comb from the cheek down, but not against my face. This gives me a full puffy look im really digging. I also put my oil in now going from the neck up

Your beard is awesome Sean. Always happy to see updates.

Unrelated, but I just had a beard hair fall out (happens sometimes, no big deal). I measured it and it was 4.5 inches long. I've been growing my beard since the first week of October 2015, so it is around 7.5 months old. I've measured a few others before and it seems pretty consistent that they grow at at least half an inch per month rate if not a bit faster. I feel like that's rather abnormally fast growth.

Anyone recommend a good beard trimmer? I've been rocking a beard for a the last few months and when it gets too long all I had to trim it was my clippers I use to shave my head, on the longest setting it still trimmed my beard way too short. So every week for 3 days I have a baby face.

I wish I could find a trimmer that had like a 3+ inch guard. Some days I feel like I want to even this bad boy out, but there's no easy way to do it (I'm in the same situation as you) so I just YOLO let it grow.

There has to be a solution to this, I see beard trimmers in places like CVS, I guess I'll just take the plunge and test it out

Thanks fellow beardy bro!

And yeah that's some damn nice growth.

I second the wife's opinion. Go see a barber/stylist and let them shape your beard. I'm getting another trim next week

Please report back, beard bro. My wife says the solution is to go to a barber that can do beards. I'm tempted but afraid they'll hack n slash.

I understand your fear - Whilst my beard wasn't as resplendent as yours it was probably about 2/3rds the length (going off your previous pics) and I went to a barber who has completely demolished it. I left in a bit of a daze. If you do go to one I would make it absolutely clear that you don't want anything off the length.

I use an older Phillips clipper that has a guard extendable to 50mm (~1.9inches) but that's the longest I've ever seen. Their recent models don't go longer than 25mm :/

Stylist did great with the cut and beard trim today. Decided this is my final beard length and I'm going to keep growing my hair out

Hi Beard GAF.

I've been looking for good moisturizers for my skin and beard, but none of the ones I've tried (all local solutions) have worked. I've been having flaky skin around my beard for a couple of weeks now.

Any recommendations?

it's called learning how to control a comb while you shave against it with the trimmer. Takes a lot of practice, but it's the best way to do it.

Go to LUSH and ask them for a good recommendation. I haven't had a single problem with any of their moisturizing/lotion products on my face.

100% natural ingredients in all of their hand made products.

I miss my beard and I think I look better with it in fact, but cant have a beard where I work ;_;

I've been tempted to shave mine off and return to being the smooth skinned lothario I once was, but its the only hair i have left apart from the ones forming on my back and shoulders and im afraid i might miss it also

i was never really a smooth skinned lothario in the first place anyway

There's no Lush in the country I live in, only Kiehl's (which I'm tempted to try) and L'Occitane. I can order though from their website and have it shipped here. Is there a product you recommend from them?

I've been using this on my face for a minute now.

Lush - Sympathy for the Skin

It feels real great and I can go an entire day without having to re-apply. YMMV, but I trust it. I haven't tried either of the brands you mentioned, but perhaps they offer something comparable.

Yep. I wash my beard with shampoo and conditioner at least three days a week, and i use oil every day after bathing, but it's still getting flaky.

That's probably your problem. The skin on your face =/= the skin on your head. You're stripping your face of its natural oils with your hair shampoo/conditioner.

Get a beard shampoo (I use billy jealousy brand) and use it once, maybe twice a week. Otherwise I just rinse my beard in the shower.

I've had a beard for years and never used any oil or anything on it. Just started using oil and a boar brush on it last week and am liking it so far. I want to try making my own oils, looked up some recipes and it seems pretty simple. Does anyone else here make their own and have any tips or recipes to start with?

I shaved my beard off today

My face feels like a bare skull

I'm about to shave mine off... I'm at 6 months I think. I want to keep it since this is the longest I've ever had it but on the other hand I'm just over it.

This is me everytime I shave. It actually makes me feel uncomfortable. I keep it short now about half and inch on the chin and 1/3 on the face. Lumberjack get's too crazy looking on me but I think I will be bearded for life to some degree.
