Pearl+Jasper is the way to go ...

steven + jasper needs to happen eventually so jasper can finally have a fusion buddy

I figure that will be coming at either the middle of season 4 or the end.

Steven will figure out something about his powers and realize that in order to fix corruption he likely needs to become one with someone and help them figure out who they are supposed to be again.

I imagine at some point Lapis will open up a bit about her situation with Jasper which will cause steven to switch to wanting to save Jasper or something like that.

either way that likely won't be until a year from now... so yeah...

*is fully expecting a 9-11 month hiatus after the weekly episodes end*

I love how Peridot and Jasper both gave off various aspects of Vegeta and Nappa. Peridot being short like Vegeta and the almost triangular hair while Jasper is big like Nappa. Though in this case Jasper was the one in charge.

Also that Jasper still calls Steven "Rose" like Vegeta still called Goku his Saiyan name Kakarot even after they became allies. Even though right now it's because she might honestly still think Rose is tricking her with this different looking body.

I'll never understand people wanting Jasper back, i get that people like the design, but her arc already reached it's logical narrative conclusion.

I think it's because Gems don't have a concept of individuality (See: the rubies), so she can't fathom the concept of steven being his own individual, Peridot struggled with this (she called him "a steven" or "the steven" early on), and curiously, have you noticed people speak of Rose as if she was THE rose quartz? Maybe Rose was the first of her kind, but that's beyond the point, the thing is, culturally, Gems see the gem on steven's belly and they naturally go "Rose Quartz!!"

Finally some kind of promo for Mindful Education has seen the light:

New episode of Steven Universe this Thursday 8/25/16 at 7:00 PM on Cartoon Network!

~Mindful Education~

We were lucky enough to collaborate with the immensely talented Takafumi Hori for a few sequences in this episode. Thank you so much Hori-San!

Storyboarded by Jeff Liu and Colin Howard

holy shit they got Studio TRIGGER staff working on this ep
those industry connections paying off

I wonder if we'll see "the Stevonnie Freak-out" again? Crew needs to explain what that is and why it happens when they're under duress.

i'm guessing it's a visual representation of the feelings Garnet had when they discovered the Gem Shard Hybrids. the feeling if tearing yourself apart due to contrasting views reaching the forefront

i also like to think for a while thats all that Lapis and Jasper saw when they were Malachite

So, since we know that the warp pads are more or less "public transit" for the Gems, maybe Lion's method of teleportation (and how it seems to tunnel through its own dimension) is an in-universe equivalent of slipspace, albeit with no real time dilation. The Diamond Authority-esque audio cue when it plays could mean that it's typically a form of travel exclusive to the Diamonds?

Holy shit takafumi hori I'm screaming

Finally, good animation

tumblr_o37mevYlfh1uush3wo3_540.gif

If the guy seems familiar he is an animator for trigger which did Little Witch Academia (Which I highly recommend on Netflix!) and other projects like Redline which was basically animation-gasm.

Here is some samples.

The last Japanese animator I can note was the great Food Pyramid episode of Adventure Time as well.

Trigger is full of animation otaku's. LWA2 even has Connie and Dipper from Gravity Falls hidden in it.

I'll never understand people wanting Jasper back, i get that people like the design, but her arc already reached it's logical narrative conclusion.

I think it's a combination of wanting a Vegeta parallel, being a badass, having an interesting character design, being an actively antagonistic character in a show where most problems are either animalistic monsters or interpersonal, and the fact that she has a lot of history/can start a new arc ala Peridot's Redemption.

I mean, now we know why she hates Rose, but there's still a lot to know. Plus now that she's corrupt, we have a corrupted Gem that we actually knew pre-corruption. We even saw it happen on screen! I'm sure she'll be crucial to purifying Gems; I think that'll be her arc. Besides, there was that
"Pierre becomes a werewolf in Season 3" bit in the Crewniverse-made fanzine. Jasper's clearly a parallel with Pierre, and Peridot's review of Seasons 1/2 of CPH also line up with SU. She's definitely going to do something with her corruption.

Like it or not, they're not throwing the character out; they even kept her in the SDCC art! And as someone who was excited for Jasper back when she was just a tough Henchwoman, I look forward to seeing where they do with her.

Also, Jasper has done one of the main things that might signal a possible future arc: expressed some vulnerability. She clearly has issues with where she came from, and her continued angst about why no one will ever stay fused with her could very easily be a setup for future character development.

Hell, even Amethyst calling her "sis" when bubbling her leaves the door open for them to work on redeeming the character.

I went from barely knowing anything about Mindful Education to being immensely hyped.

- Storyboarded by Liu/Howard, arguably the best current duo (or tied with Florido/Zuke)

- Possible explanation behind worrying promo scene of Sapphire and white butterflies

- Sequences guest-animated by Studio TRIGGER's Takafumi Hori, a huge SU fan who's probably psyched to be working on it

-Will probably be the episode with the "Here Comes A Thought" song based on Tumblr tags

- It's a Stevonnie episode

- They're holding hands.

After Buddy's Book, I was expecting some more light, fun episodes before we got to the heavy duty stuff. But it looks like they're not wasting time.

Expecting some drama/jealousy about Smokey Quartz and Stevonnie. Maybe Connie always felt special because she thought she was the only one Steven could fuse with. Or maybe Stevonnie will be jealous Smokey.

I don't think there'll be an issue at all

i don't know. I could just be expecting the worst, but Stevonnie has always seemed to take Steven and Connie's fears and anxieties and raises them higher. Connie already has fears of being alone, so maybe that will come out in some way.

Expecting Steven and Connie to become self-aware about their feelings for each other, and Garnet seeing their awkwardness and reminiscing about her time while on Earth as Ruby and Sapphire to a montage set to music and fancy animation.

Or whatever. Episode could go anywhere really.

It's possible that Connie will say to Steven and to herself that she's happy he fused with Amethyst, but there's a part of her that feels worried that they lost something special they had together. The Mindful Education episode description mentions that they'll go into their minds for mental training (which is probably where the guest animation fits in). Connie will be forced to admit the negative feelings she has or try to figure why it bothers her so much.

I think "Here Comes a Thought" will be either Steven or Connie singing to each other. The line about "If this is how we fall apart" refers to Stevonnie and their relationship with one another. "Flexibility, love, and trust" would work too...except for the "love" part unless this episode finally starts pushing their relationship in that direction. They could always say it's the love between friends, since Connie and Steven clearly "love" each other as friends already. It's similar to how Amethyst and Steven love each other as family/siblings a whole lot more after the last story arc.

Hope not. Steven needs to grow tall or reach 15 first

And people said there's no path for Jasper to be redeemed.

After she’s defeated by Steven and Amethyst, Jasper refuses the help that Steven gave to previous adversaries like Peridot and Lapis. Why is that?

Jasper is very different than Peridot and Lapis. Unlike them, she has a deep hate for herself because of her origins on Earth. She is determined to never be weak or vulnerable. So at the point when she’s the lowest, there’s no way she’d ever accept help, because she believes she doesn’t deserve it.

Peridot and Lapis both believed they deserved better than what happened to them, but not Jasper. She went back to Earth to face her demons, and she lost. She’s consumed by her own self pity.
