Overwatch Sombra ARG - No one is ready for Sombra [Up2: New Model Leaks]

This isn't fun to me any longer...not that it was a laugh riot to begin with. Now it's just aggressively boring and sort of obnoxious. This may be whining, but I feel like people should be allowed to express their frustration and disappointment

The people attacking (telling them to get out) those who have expressed their disappointment or annoyance with the countdown should use their brains. Everyone has the right to express their views, and it's extremely petty for you to tell others to get out if they aren't satisfied. Grow up.
Not sure if telling people to use their brains and grow up is necessary or even helpful for your position when you're calling people out for attacking others.

If everyone has the right to express their views, they also have the right to be called on those views.

If people think the criticism of b
Blizzard is in error and want to argue that, fine. Cool. Most are doing that now, too.

"OMG you're whining, stop whining!!!" is itself whining though. It's braindead shitposting. Respond to points with points. "Calling out" is some bullshit.

I mean, yeah but it works both ways. There are a lot of posts just saying effectively "I don't like ARGs, reveal her already," which is just as bad.

Why? They're saying what they want Blizzard to do on a discussion forum where you post opinions. They're not petitioning Blizzard, or sending death threats to Kaplan, or other horrible things, they're posting on NeoGAF about it.

The thread was at its 13th or so page at that point, people were anticipating some sort of reveal and what they got instead was something very few would have actually believed might happen. Is every ten-page saga in an E3 thread where people voice their disdain at EA wasting our time with FIFA an indicator of some "underlying issue"? People like to voice their opinions here and often times the majority opinion of a thing can be negative, saying they're "entitled, "whining, and "crying" for wanting a game company to not waste their time just goes to make things worse for everyone. Being negative about something doesn't mean you're being malicious.

except that dumb shit too?

Its called taking some time to think beyond yourself. I play sports games but lord are they boring as fuck to watch and get presented. "oh yes, you can kick the ball super good now...and woooow look at dat crowd". so yeah I get being a bit butthurt over EA showing FIFA yet again. However, thinking beyond myself, I know FIFA is fuckin huge and the press and a lot of people are actually pretty hype for when they do just that. Just because I am not, doesn't mean a damn thing at the end of the day.

This idea that because it is an open board or free country or whatever, makes it ok to constantly complain irks me a bit. Yes, it is great to state your opinion or feelings but again eventually what the hell is the point? I get being upset, I get being annoyed but look, Blizzard is going to do this thing regardless of any of that and no one here can change that, so what is the point? Just like those E3 threads, if I was to keep going 'fUCK FIFA" over and over and over again...i imagine it would get old, no? Instead, I should just go do something else until Fifa is over.

People hate the entitled word and I do too as it is often used to shutdown actual good discussion. But in this case, Sombra is coming...eventually. Not when we all might have hoped, probably after when she should have...but being mad in this thread does nothing for anyone.

Do you need a big essay on why this has been frustrating today? There's no need to be obtuse about points easily made and positions easily understood. As previously noted: This is not the first page of the thread.

This isn't whining, you're right.
They've been teasing her for too long and solving the ARG don't feel like it gets us any closer to the reveal.

Basically it's just Blizzard trying to build a lot of hype and communication about their new character rather than actually having a meaningful and rewarding game with the community.

The way they're handling Sombra, and the way they've handled the Summer Games, has been lackluster.

Because we are not EA nor are we Blizzard, this idea that because something might make sense in a company's eyes making it fine in the consumer's can potentially hold things back. Sure, Blizzard may be having a right fun time with this and I wish them well but as I am allowed to do so I will complain about how I, as a consumer and as a person, do not like having my time wasted by a pointless countdown.

I know full well that 100% of my posts here on NeoGAF will not change a damn thing about the world yet I still post my opinion about things whenever I care enough to do so. I know Sombra is coming, however, Blizzard led me to believe that she was coming sooner than she might have been and to me that's just not alright.

I understand you're irritated, and I know you're a pretty nice guy from the Overwatch community thread. Chill out. I don't need the snark. All I was saying is that there is shitposting coming from both sides. I understand this isn't the first page but I don't have time to go back and read all 15-odd pages I missed at 9AM in the morning on the way to work.

You should really look up "pity party" though.

I think my analogy is growing even stronger as this thread progresses.

I'm sorry if my usage of the phrase underlying issue came off as crass. I legitimately was trying to being to light what people were basically trying to shout over each other. I don't think people are being malicious? I do think there were a steady stream of drive-by, I guess you could say "entitled" posters that stopped by and just stated "just give us the character" with no basis to their reasoning as Blizzard has made no official release date or announcements. I rarely try using phrases like that when it comes to consumers because when they are your consumer you tiptoe a pretty slippery slope with them throughout your cycle (and as a current consumer I'm still quite bitter about the summer games).

I think where I'm missing the E3 connection here is my lost was referring to the people basically demanding things from Blizzard that Blizzard has not yet announced. If EA at E3 said at the end of the FIFA '17 clip there would be a link for you to get a free ___" and that shit didn't show up, I can see people having more of a reason to be upset.

Currently people being upset is the same as when people were upset when they only found the red herring badge last winter Steam Sale.

Sorry it took awhile to reply. I don't feel well and did this by mobile on my couch. :)

If you don't have the full context of the discussion then maybe you shouldn't take part in it? I know you're a nice poster too and I apologize if I'm coming off a little short. It's not my intention to attack you or anybody specifically, but yeah, I'm frustrated and posting and that's not the best mix.

My point is this: A discussion can be founded on "Blizzard's ARG is annoying" after a ~21 hour countdown that ostensibly delivers nothing. We can discuss why people feel that way and whether or not those feelings have merit. What does "stop whining" contribute? Nothing. It serves only to stifle discussion of a sort that someone dislikes.

So maybe there is "shitposting" on both ends, but they certainly don't carry the same weight.

At this point though, my frustration is much less about the ARG itself and more about the weak attempts to discredit criticism of it. I just don't understand that. None of what's being said is bad for Blizz to hear. It's their first time doing this? It's not planned? They're reacting on the fly? I'm perfectly fine accepting all of these! They also have room to improve. Seeing what people like and don't like will help. If this stuff isn't going to be fun, they may as well not bother. And I get that a certain crowd is still enjoying it, but why settle?

What exactly was oh so terrible about the Summer Games stuff? It's more optional 'free' content with a new shits and giggles game mode.

I very much doubt that everyone posting on this thread on either side have read every page of it at this point. I don't think my observation required that much context, and I also feel like you're overreacting over what I said because of built up frustration.

Honestly if this was an official countdown I could 100% understand the frustration. And I do understand to some point, I was excited about it too - you can tell from my posts yesterday in the community thread. That said, this is just Blizzard playing cat and mouse with the community, it's been a surprisingly interactive ARG and there's been a lot of community input and a lot of people are having fun with it.

I'm definitely not dismissing criticism, and constructive criticism is great. The people I was talking about were the drive-by posters typing one sentence which boils down to "I don't like ARGs, just reveal her" because it's not constructive, it adds nothing to the dialogue and let's be real, even if they weren't doing the ARG they wouldn't be revealing her yet. They have their own timeline for this already set, this is just some extra fan service in the meantime.

It doesn't really get much more official than being tied to Blizzard's own forum.

Fair enough though. In general, I don't think we're making incompatible points.

Sombra still hasn't been revealed? Can Blizzard just do a character reveal like a normal company instead of an hours long dick tease?

It was requests for information they felt they deserved and that is the underlying issue that is probably more up for debate than anything: what a consumer feels they deserve.

Again though, there was a countdown on an official Blizzard source that was ticking down hours that lasted from one day to the next. When you do something like that, people are going to expect things, and when you deliver nothing, they're going to be mad.

Blizzard played that card, not fans. You can't just throw out something that is leading up to a very specific day and time. When you do that, I think your fans are deserved something. If you aren't ready to give that something, don't play that card.

That countdown earlier today was worse than reaching the center of the universe in No Man's Sky.
You reach the end of the countdown on the ARG, but wait there's another countdown because the ARG isn't over.

Between waiting for this and deus ex to finish installing after it stopped when it was getting good I don't thing I can handle more waiting :(

You know, I see a lot of people saying that we all know it's gonna be Sombra, so why drone this out for so long... But what if it isn't Sombra and it's something totally different and Sombra is just a code name for something that has nothing to do with a new character and this leads to something completely out of the blue?

At this point, that could very well be the case.
