Steven Universe's animation is not very good on average. The art direction is good so it still looks nice but the animation just isn't.

Official preview spoilers & speculation about "that thing" Connie may be going through:
Steven makes a joke about his dad saying that "this would happen to him at some point, but he didn't think it would be overnight". Oh my god, the "Steven is bald" joke is foreshadowing Connie having her first period/going through puberty. Steven can joke about it because male puberty doesn't involve something as potentially traumatic and confusing as a girl having her first period and not knowing what's happening. Connie is book smart and her mom is a doctor, but it's still possible that she didn't know what was happening until after the fact. She might not have been given "the talk" until it happened.

I thought the Butterfly stuff meant "death." Took me a second to realize what you were all getting at. Seems like a very risky plot, and I wholeheartedly expect backlash, but I can see the show tackling it. Besides, it's definitely a unique way to explore the difference between Stevonnie and Steven & Connie.

Nah, as an artist and animator (or basically a person who cares about the way a cartoon show looks and moves more than I probably should...) myself I completely disagree.
There are episodes here and there that are admittedly kind of wonky-looking from both an art direction and animation standpoint (the board-driven production has a lot to do with this considering they're basically like key animators), but on average SU is a very well-animated TV-budgeted show.
Saying "Finally good animation!" is kind of a crappy and insulting thing to say considering the work and effort put into the production of this show.
At the end of the day though, we can agree to disagree; animation is more art than science.
I even hung up on my own mother.
And she's such a nice lady.
There was an episode of Braceface where
Sharon gets her first period
Braceface was a bit ahead of its time, didn't the main character also have a gay friend but the show handled it, like, totally realistic and mundane and not like a publicity stunt?

what the hell does Sapphire do in this episode? SU eps don't have B-plots very often.
Well, it could be that Sapphire and Ruby are there to help Steven understand mental frustration of Connie's period. I mean, Ruby probably had to get used to Sapphire's future vision, so maybe they'll help Steven empathize with Connie's unique experience.

I think the period stuff won't be the focus of the episode, but rather Connie's uncertainty of change in her life. If anything, the event is just something that gets her thinking and makes her anxious, and her mind ends up going in a million directions. It will either be some sort of motivation or a semi-big reveal as to why she's feeling so down and uneasy.
The episode description still involves Connie and Steven doing some mind-training, so it's possible that Garnet helps them deal with fusion in some mindscape. That's why Ruby and Sapphire are prominent. They unfuse to try and teach Steven and Connie about fusion.

And frankly, the term "good animation" isn't particularly meaningful. It's about what the animation is trying to accomplish and what standards you're judging it by.
The show does sometimes have problems with characters going off-model in ways that are a little distracting, but for the most part, I think it's pretty solid. It's not on the same tier on a purely technical level as multi-million dollar film productions, but that's kind of an apples and oranges situation.

Someone on one of the side SU subreddits claims to have seen Mindful Education early through the FIOS app, and they gave a short description about it and how beautiful it was. The description was confirmed by mods. The FIOS person said they would upload screenshots soon.

Goddamn, that might have been my favorite episode since Season 3 started. And there have been a lot of great episodes too.
Definitely wasn't what we thought (it was a long shot anyway).
The song has already entered my 5. Goddamn, Connie being a red herring for Steven's own guilt...I can't believe they fit all of this in 11 minutes. The animation style too was grade-A.
