The market tends to reward those who are willing to put in the extra effort to differentiate themselves. You could claim nobody is going to pick what movie to see based on whether it's in color, presented in a wide format, has surround sound, or any other evolutionary metric and the market would prove you wrong. The noteworthy exception is when the underlying advancement wasn't actually compelling (it's arguable that 3D will fall into this category along with smell-o-vision and other dubious gimmicks.)

So if people like games that take advantage of newer technology, and we know they do, there will be a market and publishers will compete to satisfy that demand. HDR and wide color gamut will make games pop in a way that people haven't seen before and they'll want to share in that experience.

I'm claiming that there won't be *enough* of these people for them to cause a significant dent in a publisher's game sales.

Honestly, how many people do you think are going to skip Red Dead 3 or Cyberpunk 2077 if they happen to play the exact same on OG PS4 and Neo? Enough people for the publishers to panic? I just disagree with that.

Ah poo.

My Logic was maybe EA and Sony could use this as a excuse to try and shake hands again. Andromida is the only thing EA has coming that isnt currently knee deep in Xbox marketing. And its probably time to show Andromida if they are still trying to pretend its going to hit that early 17 release date.

They already shook hands. Battlefront's marketing has been with Sony from day 1.

You're basically saying everyone who upgrades to Neo will only be purchasing games that are upgraded which doesn't make sense. It doesn't matter if they go back to the OG or jump ship to another platform because they'll be buying the game anyway. How can these customers feel cheated? They weren't promised that every game they have will look better or be upgraded.
You don't get what I'm saying, so I'm only going to partly explain some of what I mean.

Sony have already come out and spoke that Neo is partly to stop people jumping ship to PC. What do you automatically thing of when people compare PC games and Console games? Better graphics. Sony saying that already points to Neo games being better looking than the OG.

If players buy the Neo with the understanding that games will look better, then when they don't get that, the blame auto goes to the devs and publishers. People will not buy buy things if they feel cheated. It will kill sales. People jumping ship was just to say it'll kill Neo and Scorpio which in turn also kills profits.

Edit: I also didn't "basically" say anything. I directly said those that people that trade in their OG PS4 for a Neo. So yes they'd be playing the upgraded games.

My final predictions:

299$ ps4 slim, release 14th of September.
399$ ps4 neo with GDDR5X. Out first in the US, November 4th. COD bundle announced during conference. FFXV bundle announced the day after for a release in Japan. Limited Stock. Pre-Order now.

Are we expecting any game announcements or just Neo and sales talk?

I think they keep the game announcements to a minimum and make this all about hardware. I expect one large game reveal to facilitate showing off the power. Besides that I expect that use previously revealed games with a NEO mode and maybe uncharted 4 neo mode. I think those expecting multiple game announcements have their expectations way too high.

If Slim ends up being $299 (since we have standalone bundles), does that take the crown of price-drop but not really as far as Slim releases go?

I mean, it's PS4 + Black Ops 3 vs. $299 Slim.

Not much of a change in value, which would be surprising to me.

One or two announcements with multiple game comparisons. Majority of the show focuses on Neo is what I'd like to see.

I know people going to hate me for this but it might be Dragon Dogma 2.

First game lifetime sales is probably around 2.5 million. That's not bad for a new IP. If they could secure some additional funds to make a true sequel happen it wouldn't be too much of a stretch. Lots of the Deep Down assets shown could work in that universe.

Why was Sony "surprised" at the Scorpio reveal? Because they are committed to a campaign of secrecy or because it could undermine Xbone sales?

Neo has to arrive this year, or they won't reveal it at all. Then again, they should have known it would leak earlier, once 3rd parties got involved.

Why am I putting this much thought into this? Make it stop Sony.

Agree to disagree then. imo There's not going to be enough displeased Neo owners to "kill sales"

That's easy to understand I think.

Sony was surprised because MS chose to unveil a console two years out to address the concerns of their fanbase. They probably didn't see the benefits of a talking heads video without much to substantiate outweigh the negatives.

It probably doesn't matter for MS in the end anyways, the sales for their console are falling at a significant pace regardless of Scorpio announcement or not.

What are your bets for first party then? Just Horizon and UC4?

Uncharted for sure

Maybe Horizon since the marketing seems to be picking up

I expect mostly 3rd party stuff like Battlefront and CoD. I don't expect any new announcements like Red Dead or a revival like Deep Down.

Haven to we read that all games from October onward are required to have a Neo mode? (aka a Neo High setting to compare to PS4's Medium)

I suspect we might see quite a solid reel in a brief trailer for Neo of game footage from titles coming this fall that will have a Neo setting.

Finally, Hot Dog Redemption, I've been waiting a while!

I think we'll probably get one or two titles, maybe Uncharted 4, shown in Neo mode next to the regular PS4 version, and then a quick line about how anyone can do this to their existing titles. Then it's up to developers and publishers to do it, if it all.

Hope is allowed. Take it as it is (as a rumour that is) but that Drunk Cat seems to be well informed. He's talking about the RDR Remaster btw

let;s all go crazy together guys

my burrito is ready

Man, I really hope they show a bunch of older games running at 60fps.

Wasn't a fan of Bloodborne, but I'd definitely try it out again at locked 60. Would give me a reason to finally crack open Infamous too.

I'm excited for the Neo, but I'm cautious about devs going back to their older titles, I hope Sony at least tried to get their first party to do it.

If I'm wrong about something & you're so much smarter than me you should be able to shut it down in one post.

so here is your chance prove me to be wrong

Why would I waste my time doing it again? The last time I did you never responded and yet continued to post the same BS because the concepts behind how silicon architecture affect floating point operation procedures are clearly out of your grasp.

Nobody who is telling you that you are wrong can have a proper debate with you when you lack basic university level knowledge on the subject you are posting post-graduate level patents and topics on.

My prediction:

$250 Slim bundled with no game, $300 holiday bundle announced next month. Just called PS4. Current PS4 price drop to $250. PS4 slim available Friday.

They show off the new DS4 with new light bar.

$450 Neo, better specs than what leaked, called PS4n. Releases first Friday of November.

VR presentation along with announcement of the demo disc

Games shown running on Neo; Driveclub, Uncharted 4, Horizon, Days Gone, COD. 25 Neo-fied games total announced includes current games with patches.

My final predictions before shit leaks for real.

If we're doing this, let's go big or go home:

5.2tflop, $499, January

Terrible bundle with several UHD Blu-rays you don't want

Games shown:
GoW and Detroit E3 demos in psuedo-4K
FFXV
Battlefield 1
Some indie with really basic graphics running in true 4K

I'm so HYPE at the moment!

Been replaying demon's souls and dark souls recently. I know there is little chance, but please might a patch for 60fps Bloodborne be announced.

So the world might be mended

Some new Detroit footage would be nice

I recently had the opportunity to watch the same demo they had behind closed doors at E3 and it made way more hyped for the game
