Belkin announces simultaneous Lightning headphone and charging adapter for iPhone 7

My guess, they didn't put it at the back because people would have left it wired in and not used it as a wireless mouse.

Using a lightning cable with a mouse? That'll end well, given the sodding things are so fragile they're barely up to the task of charging a phone without getting frayed.

What're you guys doing to your lightning cables? Learn proper cable management and they won't break or fray

Yeah I've never had a cable fray and I've been using my iPhone 5 one the most

I've had one in my car for a few years too. Alive and well

The point is cables for on-the-go use and frequent connects/disconnects shouldn't have to be "properly managed." They should Just Work (TM). Apple cables have had notoriously bad strain relief for years (check the reviews for Macbook power adapters) so this is clearly an area where Apple is content to say that aesthetics trump usability and force their customers to eat the cost of that decision.

If you search online you will always find people with problems with product X or Y, but past a certain a point, it's a problem with the product. It's super, super common to see busted iPhone chargers.

My problem with lightning is the connector, it gets dirty/dusty/linty and stops connecting properly, I have to clean it very thoroughly to work and it's getting worse and worse to the point where I don't think the phone will last long because eventually I won't be able to charge it no matter how well I clean it.

Haha, ok.

Mine are used only for charging next to my bed. The cable is never put under duress and i've even added a 1m usb extension lead. Yet, somehow, I've got through three of them in the last year.

Other cables in my household seem to have survived though.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
I love threads where nearly 100% of the first 50 posts are people shitting all over Apple's overpriced badly designed idiot crap. Every time I see an announcement for new Apple products, all I see are hassles to using hardware and programs that are easily used on other systems and cost less money.

So, a genuine question here: Why is Apple still in business?

Because GAF doesn't represent the real world.

I've never participated in these Apple
Vs. the World kind of threads. I've been using an iPhone for years, and have been fine with it.

This is all too much for me though. I was already annoyed when I had to switch to the new charger, making every other charger I owned worthless. I was further annoyed when cable after cable I bought, from Apple, stopped working after a couple of months (I just have a cable that sits at my desk, and one next my bed).

Now I'm expected to be happy with another device that will live or die by the charge, that will require me to buy new devices, when what I have now not only works, but is more convenient and cheaper. It's a no brainer for me. Fuck this shit. I'm not touching this phone.

Because most of the people pitching a fit will get used to it eventually. This same thing happened when Apple said their phone would use a virtual keyboard, or when they said they were removing the DVD drive on their new laptop.

For some people this will be an inconvenience. For most people though it will be a non-issue. Apple very clearly designs their products for their vision of where we are going, not where we are right now.

Most who freaked out at "bend gate" but who are chill with the 6 page long tread about exploding Note 7s?

Yeah, I don't care about outrage when the overall trend is toward affordable blutooth earphones.

Air pods aka same shit sound only wireless are 159$ Apple ain't interested in trending bluetooth cheaper

Hey, removing the headphone jack only necessitated even more extraneous crap for people to haul around to simulate the exact experience they were having with the headphone jack, who would've guessed?

They created an insular market. There's no real iPhone competitor in as much as shifting to Android is shifting to a whole different platform. Basically if you like the iphone apps, and general iphone infrastructure you have no choice but to take what they give.

They made a solution that solved a problem they wouldn't have for two years.

No, they made the problem, the fact that they can squeeze further profit (by making the costumer shell out more money) from a pre-existing product line is the icing on the cake. Kind of like a diaper company that decides to start selling condoms with holes in them.

Right now I can charge my phone, and listen to a podcast with headphones, at no additional cost. With the iPhone 7 I can do that after paying an additional fee. What the fuck does it matter if their solution was a product they already made?

Okay, but why is Apple's vision of where we are going always less intuitive and more expensive? I think I've said it on GAF before, but the last Apple product I used that was actually simple and user friendly was the Apple II. In junior high I took a computing class and all the computers were Mac something or others, which I thought nothing of at the time. We spent 3 of the 9 months in the class just being taught how to use the computers, not how to get anything done on them. Every other computing system, including Windows OSes and various phone OSes and interfaces, I've been able to learn in about five minutes, and all of that is just software, not even getting into the fact that Apple hardware always has strange, non user friendly setups and is more expensive than equivalent products which provide the same functionality and performance.

I never see these kinds of crazy design decisions from other companies, and I never see other user bases having to get used to inconveniences. Why does Apple insist on users conforming to their ideas instead of making products with what consumers want and do in mind? You can still move forward without making people learn things over and replacing perfectly functional attributes.

the mouse charger is honestly not at all a big deal. it takes a few minutes to charge it enough for a days use or a few hours for months

The actual solution given is AirPods. That's right up front. Then it's pointed out that it's possible to do it another way that already exists. I bet if you looked around you could find even more ways.

And if you want to use headphones that probably don't suck while charging or without needing to also have an adapter around? Or not buy expensive, probably shitty headphones?

This solution is just another way for them to make money off of a problem that didn't exist and doesn't exist in other phones. In other words, they have plenty of solutions and they make money off of all of them. Great for them, not so great for the consumer.

So... if I get it right, Apple removed the "ancient" jack 3.5mm port... to have a huge ass adapter.

No, they just happen to have a solution for lunatics that inexplicably want to charge their phone and also listen to audio at the same time.

I still just cannot believe that the mouse and Apple Pencil charging methods are the real actual way to recharge those products that exist for sale to human beings.

It's by far the stupidest method I've ever seen in any electronic that recharges ever.

It's an easy solution to make sure that people don't try to use the Pencil or Magic Mouse while charging, because you really would never need to. Both can be charged to a useable state in literal minutes (if not seconds in the case of the Pencil specifically).

But why should you be without a mouse for any period of time? Mice always had cords on top or in the front because the bottom is used for an integral function of the mouse. Why not put it on the front? Why interrupt the use of something which has been a fundamental part of using a computer for decades unnecessarily? Why do that for even one minute?

The absolute madmen! Wanting to two independent separate actions on their phone, these guys are thrill seekers. Not to mention they probably even think this should be a free service! God damn lunatics!!!! Let's not even bring up that this was totally possible before then the loonies will come out!

Air pods are almost assuredly going to be low end sound. All I've heardis they are the old Apple ear buds aka shit only wireless
