Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 | The 'Verse Awakens

Thank you, who should I add to the built in friends list? Will that affect the instance that I am spawned in?

You can add me: golem. I think the problem is though that most of us dont really play the alpha too consistently. Right now theres usually enough to do in new patches for a few nights worth of interest but beyond doing the missions, exploring the areas they have set up, and dogfighting or messing around none of the other systems are in to keep people playing like mining and trading.

If you just login to the game and ask for help or if anyone needs some crew for their ship though, you should get some positive responses-- generally people are pretty friendly in the alpha.

The salty folks who happen to play ED can keep being salty, fact is SC raised another 4.5 million and 55k new citizens since Gamescom. It's for a reason.

Seems like CIG is investigating using photogrammetry for environments and the like. That's going to be crazy if they can get that to work on a scale the size of planets and landscapes in "Cry engine" aka Star Engine.

We dedicated some of our time to polishing up and bug fixing any assets that were being shown on stage and I believe only one bug made it through. Damn you, popping container!

Alongside Gamescom and 2.5 release, we spent some time investigating photogrammetry and working with the environment team on the procedural planet tech. We have shifted our focus back onto Squadron 42 and the CitizenCon demo, locking down the backlog and putting together a solid plan through CitizenCon and towards the end of the year.

We’ve also started developing the damage and destruction pipeline for the ship items. Ultimately we want to create a system so when you pop open the ship panels and see your items, we can visually represent damage so you know what’s gone wrong and what needs to be fixed.

At this point i expect them to get this up and running sooner rather then later. To be honest.

If they can tile it nicely it's going to be great.

Someone really needs to ask CIG if they're going to implement horizontal displacement, it's practically the holy grail of planet generation in games at this point.

This part is also super cool. The modularity in this game will be really something.

Please give Insight or example for the bold. Google didn't reveal much. Thanks

Make a mountain. There's your vertical displacement. Now cut a cave into the mountain. There's your horizontal displacement.

Like Vector Displacement Map in Zbrush! ok i just heard the term now ,that's why i asked,if its something new method i have missed on.

Thanks Anyway!

For me there is only one complaint and i hope they will fix it.
The AO around the corners of the eye is too strong. Rest Is impressive for a game model.

For a MMO PU/Star Citizen player model that's for sure (of course it won't be at that exact render quality but damn near close enough or maybe i'm wrong and it will look like that).

Yes this is one of the PU heads :)

One of 120 or more. More then likely going to scan more in house sooner or later. Once they get the character creation process and scaning to engine ironed out.

Its actually a tier 2 ;) His name is "male03"
There isn't a drastic difference between t1 and t2 to be fair (their used to be a year ago but with some SUPERB performance tricks/saves they have become very similar).
T0 is even higher poly than what you see there ;) more animated diffuse and wrinkle maps too.
Crazy, these aren't even the finished head.

T2 woah, bow to our CIG overlords!

I hope they manage to put them into 3.0

T0 is the cinematic/in game cut scenes and most likely SQ42 player and secondary characters.

Meaning T0 is this most likely

Looking like those Final Fantasy XV character poster shots from a while back. Most likely in real time no doubt.

Seem like these are the character models for 2.6 or at least the new male (and or female) base model. As i'm sure character customization is waiting for these models to get a development cycle pipeline that's feasible and flexible.

All SQ42 cut scenes are in real time. The days of prerendered CGI are pretty much over.
True.

One things for sure, its going to be pretty amazing to see the improvements they've made after the Admiral speech or the Marrow Tour. Given how early a lot of that footage was. From last year. Really expecting to see some mind numbing visuals next month.

This CitizenCon will be finally a 'i told you so' presentation that will showcase polished offline portion of the game.
Something that will really show people not following the game where the budget went/goes and how high tech this game is. It wont be perceived as a tech demo anymore. Should also finally shutdown all drive-by posts on gaf.

Cant wait!

Hopefully we're playing 2.6 before then or a little after (with holding any road blocks). To cement the games continued progess with new content and quality gameplay improvments. It's is getting to the point were the notion that its all "smoke and mirrors". Will start to change and may have changed a little over the past few months, but once the game's pieces start coming together finally.

The reactions after Citizencon will be mighty interesting.

On the 9th of October and thereafter it's going to be a big "We told you so" like you said or maybe a "mic drop" would be the better metaphor.

I don't know guys, I just came across this site looking for star citizen info and after reading I'm not so sure about this game anymore...

did anyone play Homefront the Revolution for the free Steam weekend? it looks really great if you have the hardware to run it.

i bet SQ42 will look so much better.

Holy crap, I just noticed that you can see his visor sealing and unsealing. If you look closely at the glass visor after it has come down initially and the rest of the mask part starts to come together you can see that it slightly moves like it's sealing or unsealing if it's coming off. Amazing.

I don't know why this impresses me so much but It's kinda blowing my mind right now lol.

Took me a while to see it but I see it now. Amazing.

Next Friday my new PC is coming. Just wanted to ask what kind of settings I'll be able to run this game on in 1080p with an I7-4790, 12GB RAM, GTX 980 or RX 480?

Probably high with 60fps in Arena Commander, but 10-15 fps no matter what in the PU.

At least until 3.0.

Thanks man. May go with the RX 480 as the 980 I've been eyeing up may be too big for the case I have. Also my case only supports 2x 6pin or 1 6pin and 1 8pin cards. The 980 I want is 2x 8pin.

Looking forward to Friday man. Long time since I've played on PC.

Get another PSU and put in the card you want.

I remember when the first launcher hit, with Pedro's music... we were all amazed, and he showed up in chatroll. Instant deluge of praise, and he seemed a bit embarrassed!

Glad to hear more of his work, and how great it's turning out.

Seriously though, I got chills when I heard in the launcher. It was one of the moments where you know it wasn't just game art and pedigree, they were seriously aiming for the top in every aspect and the music fit the epic endeavor they had started.

Yeah it's amazing how much of a boost in FPS i got. Once i figured out how to play the PU offline after watching folks get a huge boost in frames. (Thought it was my pc, up until then. Either way still want to upgrade regardless.) So other then the game being generally unoptimized for obvious reasons, the old netcode is the big road block, holding up many from a smooth experience in the PU.

Can't wait to see the FPS jump after 3.0. Always seemed strange why in AC gameplay was smooth as butter whether versus AI or Players. But once I hopped into the baby universe it was like running though invisible stop and start barriers.
