I absolutely agree. Bungie definitely needs to add an event for PvE players to do that's on a monthly rotation. I remember when they first talked about Destiny and that was something they seemed to want to do. I hope that they are able to bring something out in Year 3 that could become a staple for Destiny 2.
I'm still holding out for an evolving public event system or something like that later down the line. Would love more stuff to do out in Patrol. I'm hoping that because The Plaguelands is an endgame zone (Designed for level 40 players) we're going to see some of that stuff. Maybe next year.
I'd prefer longer PVE events, like Queen's Wrath was two weeks. The way the weekly events tend to be on weekends would be an issue to me, as I don't usually have that much time to play then. It was pretty annoying with Mass Effect 3's multiplayer events as well.
I'd also love to have more stuff added to the patrols, as that's what I enjoy to do the most.
Heh, we had the opposite experience. I ran some of the new content - mission, strike and PoE - and didn't get a single item that increased my light, and was left wondering what the path forward was. Granted, I only played twice.
Micro-transactions are no longer cosmetic only, but even with the cosmetic ones, it's a very poor implementation that impacts what is otherwise a neat feature, making what should be a one-time acquisition into a consumable, tied to throttled boxes of loot which are also for sale (with non-cosmetic gear). I was horrified, but I don't know if that's walked back or gone further in RoI.
It took me pretty long to reach 300 light level before the April update, but since then (and doing King's Fall raid once) it's been a breeze. The only things holding my level back were a couple of lower level gear, particularly the Ghost Shell, but eventually I got them from Challenge of Elders as well, when I finally found people to play it with. They really should add matchmaking to that and Nightfall.
If the micro-transactions are handled similarly as they are now with the packages, I don't see anything wrong with that. I managed to get Taken armor for the Hunter from them, without needing to pay a dime.
Re: progression. Insofar as it matters (which es extremely little tbh), Light Level is easier to climb than ever. Faction Rank packages (top out at 330 Light), Exotic engrams, King's Fall drops (which are 100% guaranteed with the easy Challenges), and random Challenge of Elders reward screen drops (which have no weekly lockout) can drop gear up to 6 Light above your current total Light level, all the way up to 335. Plus the Elder Sigil gives a guaranteed +6 Light (up to 335) Weapon + Armor if you complete the score requirements (takes 2 runs / 20 minutes and is actually fun when the modifiers are good). There's also Heroic Strikes, which have a roughly 1/5 chance (anecdotal, my experience) of dropping Strike-specific loot which is also +6 Light up to 335. Then there's Trials, Iron Banner and Shaxx bounties for PvP types. Since April, you're basically rewarded for playing however you want.
To my recollection, you can get higher gear than that from ranking up Dead Orbit, and the other two. It's also a pretty quick process with Motes of Light, heavy weapon ammo, and materials.
This was my experience with DGAF as well. Love some of the folks there (Hawkian is THE MAN), but the threads ran so fast that I rarely was able to form a group or get my questions answered.
I'd love it if every community could have it's own separate threads so multiple discussions could go on simultaneously.
Yeah, I kinda hope there would be separate threads for PVE and PVP, as that could make it more easier to keep up.
Huh, I forgot that the cap was 335. I only ever got my main to 330. Sigh. When is the next iron banner?
I have no idea, as I've levelled up doing PVE stuff by using Three of Coins on patrols, daily heroic story missions, strikes, Nightfall, Court of Oryx, Prison/Challenge of Elders, and ranking up reputation. I've only done every raid once.
EDIT:
So how does things look for people who only do PVE? I quit the Taken King before the hard raid came out and never came back. Seemed like too much of the game was balanced around PVP, especially with all the weapon nerfs that should have only affected PVP but were universal. After the April revamp, it seems like the main means to upgrade gear past 310 or so seemed through PVP aside from the hard raid or that special POE challenge mode. Not sure if I want to try the new expansion, I'd like to experience the new raid but dunno how tedious it will be to get raid ready, especially since I don't have stockpiles of the currency/crafting components ready to go and don't like the PVP aspect much.
It's perfectly fine for PVE players, even when sticking with matchmaking missions. See what I posted above. My three characters are currently at 333, 331, and 324.
