Speaking of portraits, how about some cute slugs that want to hug you.

The Praethorian swarm is the most annoying thing ever!

It invaded my southern neighbor who provided no resistance and expanded really far south in my ring galaxy. I weathered the storm and am now exterminating their colonies one by one but the fact their constructors can build all of these space stations in my space is infuriating. If I focus in somewhere one of their constructors just hops up deep into my space and starts shitting out military bases all over my damn space! I look up from what I'm doing and there are like 3 or 4 more bases to put down. Never mind that their fleets can't even touch me anymore. Doesn't matter. They just shit up my end of space with all of their bases and having a small and fast response fleet is hit or miss because if they build a base in time it will take apart my fast stuff.

ARGH! SO INFURIATING AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY!

This game is so far pretty damn spectacular in capturing my imagination. I went into this wanting a strong singleplayer experience and so far it is delivering. I've only just colonized my first planet... so not far into it yet. This is my first real time 4x game... it could be difficult to ever play a turn based one again lol.

Hey guys/gals, how demanding is the game hardware wise?

I've got a new computer ordered, but just wondering if my old one would be able to run the game in the meantime.

It just falls short on the minimum processor specs... it's an Athlon II X4 620 2.6ghz, while the minimum is X4 640 3.0ghz. It runs Civ V on standard size maps fine, large if I've got some patience, and Cities Skylines is good for the most part.

Wouldn't mind playing this on the weekend and it looks like it's 20% off at the moment.

Thanks

You'd probably bog down in the late game with tons of ships. You can probably do a smaller sized galaxy though.

My hardware is pretty old, 9600 gt 512vram, e8400 3ghz core duo, and only 4gb of ram. The framerate is stable enough. First playthrough on all default settings, medium sized galaxy with ~17 empires. Sometimes the days don't flow smoothly and there is some infrequent stuttering, but it doesn't bother me. Runs pretty well for the hardware I have I think.

Definitely playable- I've done plenty of huge galaxy playthroughs on my laptop with i5-5200U (2.2 ghz) - it definitely gets choppy in the late game but not unplayably so. Only thing that really gets in the way of my enjoyment is that space battles no longer animate smoothly.

Oh wow, I finally caved and bought this today and I'm so glad I did. I love FTL and Sins of a Solar Empire but couldn't stand Crusader Kings 2 so wasn't sure how this would go over. I'm instantly hooked.

How many of you play on Iron Man mode? And what sort of win ratios do you have? I find games immensely more fun with Iron Man on (like in XCOM) so long as it's well balanced. If I'm committing to never winning this way I might have to reconsider, but my first two games were really fun despite me losing =P

Haven't played in a while, but the ship changes look good. Customization with ill-defined and unbalanced roles kind of took the fun out of designing a fleet to me.

But are fighters just a cruiser thing now? And BS artillery/support?

Idk. If the customization had worked better on the balance front, it'd be better, but in my experience they needed to add some structure. I just hope customization isn't trivialized.

Unless I'm forgetting something, the ship designer will still have different modules with standard weapons (i.e. projectile, missle, beam). It's only XL weapons, hangars, point defense, and torpedoes that are going exclusive.
Yep. It saves too frequently, I think it's every month? Hate it.

Yeah. It's very harsh in CK2 on high speeds, where it'll be saving every 2-3 seconds. It's also jarring in general, where you'll have a few pauses every minute at an average speed.

For Stellaris, it's not quite so bad, but still a bit too much.

Yeah I guess my fear was along the lines of corvettes only being good for torpedos, destoryers only being good for point defense, cruisers only being good as carriers, and battleships only being good as artillery/support where fighters killed corvettes, destroyers defended carriers/artillery, and corvettes killed capital ships. That would trivialize customization outside of early play and when the tactics break down and you end up with, say, corvette cloud versus corvette cloud.

The beauty of roles and sharp strengths/weaknesses is that encourage using all the ship types. The beauty of customization is that you can tailor your fleet to your enemies/taste. My concern is how much the fixed roles override the differences in functionality of the other weapons by making them moot.

Well, thinking about it carrier and destroyer armament is going to be important as I imagine that's what will be killing destroyers.

...

It is a step in the right direction though and I'm not a rabid min/maxer so it probably is entirely good for me as I do like the romance of a balanced fleet.

They seem too restricitive to me. Like each hull has a predesigned role. not sure what the point of custumizaiton would be.

Not at all. It sounds like most ships can have multiple roles. You can have anti-cruiser/anti-destroyer battleships with large or medium weapons, anti-battleship or battleships with XL weapons and add in support modules. Cruisers can be anti-anything with the wide range of equipment options available for them. Corvettes can be anti cruiser/battleship or anti-corvette. Destroyers are the only thing that seems to only have one role now.

Stellaris: Leviathans Story Pack - Announcement Trailer

In Stellaris: Leviathans, the galaxy will be filled anew with adventure and challenge as your new and naïve space-faring empire comes face-to-face and ship-to-ship with a host of dangers and rewards. Guardians: Stationary societies that have built defenses throughout a system to protect something of great value. Do you dare seize their treasure? Enclaves: Independent outposts of traders or mercenaries who are willing to make a deal. Exchange resources or hire a small fleet to supplement your own. War In Heaven: Where will your fledgling empire lie if two ancient Fallen Empires decide to renew old grievances in a War in Heaven? Will you err on the side of caution and take a side with the stronger power, or will you strike at both whilst they are occupied with their own titanic struggle? Leviathans is the first Story Pack for Stellaris, Paradox Development Studio’s best-selling science fiction strategy game. With new events, new encounters and new options, Leviathans adds a lot of new material, including new music and sounds, to one of 2016’s biggest strategy hits. Stellaris: Leviathans will be available this Autumn.

The Happy Dance .gif. ALL of them. RIGHT HERE.

I've been inching closer and closer to Day One purchasing of Paradox DLC with the recent gem Reaper's Due for CK2. But cripes if Leviathans doesn't have Day Zero written all over it, I don't know what the heck does.

This Story Pack sounds AMAZING!

Man that trailer is filled with awesome!

They say release is Autumn... will it conicide with the next big patch, or will this come after?

I hope the DLC isn't too expensive because i really want to buy at day one. This game got me into paradox games, does paradox make "pre-orders for DLC"?

I was just wondering about that myself.

If a species pack is like $8 or whatever, I imagine this'll be $20-$25, perhaps even more. (This is using CK2's pricing as a guideline.) Would be absurd and I hope they don't do it.

I can't see this being more than $15 when the most recent CK 2 expansions have been about 10-15 quid. As for the plantoid pack, the CK 2 portrait bundles are $5 so it's not hugely outside of Paradox's usual pricing, especially considering the 3d models and animation.

I would be entirely comfortable paying 15-20. 25 is pushing it, anything more is "wait for a sale" territory.

I kinda share this statement. I just don't know if i can control myself if it's 25 euro, i really enjoyed my time with stellaris, it's one my favorite strategy games ever. I feel like i'll be a "cash cow" for this game :(

The last 3 expansions for Crusader Kings II and their prices (in USD)have been:

Reaper's Due: $10
Conclave: $15
Horse Lords: $15

And for Europa Universalis IV:

Mare Nostrum: $15
The Cossaks: $20
Common Sense: $15

So, it probably won't be $25.
