2016 NFL Season OT - Week Two - The Dream is Dead

The "problem" with Rodgers boils down to coaching. The Packers starting offense was over rested during the preseason (in general the Packers always come out looking like shit after McCarthy gives them prolonged rest). McCarthy is still stubbornly trying to make the Packers a run first ground-and-pound team when they should be a fast paced no-huddle spread offense team (and if I had more time I'd dig up some evidence to support that). I don't think Rodgers likes that slower pace of play and I think it causes Rodgers and his receivers to fall out of sync a bit.

I read McCown is in "excruciating" pain and they are wondering when he will be available?! Let the man be. He has served. Let him go home and be with his family

14 straight? That doesn't sound right. I thought he had above 100 in both playoff games.

Said it all last year.

Just because it doesn't sound right doesn't mean it's wrong. Rodgers hasn't played well.
Sure, he does some magical shit here and there, but he has been straight up missing passes, slow to make reads, holding onto the ball even longer than normal....this isn't the same guy.

2015 Playoffs
@ Washington = 93.5 rating
@ Arizona = 77.9 rating

Rodgers is scared to make tough throws during this stint (throws he used to make. So he's either lost the accuracy to do so (watch any game in that range and you'll see he has missed easy throws), or mentally he's trying too hard to be perfect.
Also the Packers game plan is very different from when the Packers lead the league in offense and Rodgers was king. Said it on twitter during the game last night:

The Packers used to use a short pass as a run play. Now they run ineffectively and never open up the mid to deep field.

While that change has hurt the teams passing attack, it still falls on Rodgers' shoulder to do his job. It's Rodgers' fault until it isn't at this point.

But then we'd have to send Kessler out.. To basically die. We can still sign Vick and tank at the same time
Not worth.

and the irony would be too strong.

Did you see the hits he was taking? I'm pretty sure Superman would be in pain this morning. and he's definitely not Superman. Gotta feel bad to take a beating like that and not even get a W for the effort.

Rodgers had regressed. He throws the ball out of bounds more and more versus trusting he can get the ball into small windows in the middle of the field.

I don't know if this speaks more to MIN or GB, but there was a goal line play where Rodgers tried to throw a slant and two Vikings tried to jump the route. At first Rodgers doubled clutched it, then threw it incomplete. But the Vikes knew what was coming. Everything was contested for the most part.

It seemed like a lot of those DPIs were on isolation routes. Wasn't there something a couple of years back about the Pack getting away from that and using more picks and rubs? That seemed pretty absent yesterday, though maybe that was b/c the focus was on getting Waynes 1v1

Poor Jimmy.

Well, did you get it?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We better have a stranglehold on whoever scouts receiving talent, cause they're fucking good at their job.

To be fair, everyone on the planet knew Coates can run straight, and that's what you guys had him do repeatedly. But you're right, you find WRs all the time, most teams can't. On the other hand, the guy who's scouting your OLBs, he needs to go.

I don't know if it's a common thing among a larger chunk of the Packers fanbase but a few of my friends and I all think Rodgers started to regress a bit after his no-interception streak ended and he threw 2 picks against Saint Louis. After that he looked a bit gun shy.

Rodgers had regressed. He throws the ball out of bounds more and more versus trusting he can get the ball into small windows in the middle of the field.

I try to be careful with how I say this - but Rodgers needs to get a little bit of that Brett Favre gunslinger back into him. I'm not saying he needs to throw into triple coverage. But he has the talent to throw into tight windows and make plays out of nothing. Right now it seems like Rodgers is content tossing the ball out of bounds if he doesn't see a receiver who has a solid 2 yards of space on a corner.

Eh, the jury's out on Dupree. He had a decent rookie season. As I said after the win against the Skins, we'd be tested without the pass rush. And that clearly is the case. I think we logged one sack for 0 yards, unless that was counted instead as a rush for Dalton.

Either way, there's very little rush going on. The D stiffening in the red zone and forcing three FGs is what won us the game yesterday. But Butler needs to figure out how to get some sacks.

A lot of you have been wondering what Chan has been up to. Drinking, acting a fool, and getting knocked out. Warning. Link shows raider on raider crime .

Yeah that play is almost over there with any fast receiver. Credit to Coates for making the catch but that play was all about the throw.

It is not easy to drop a pass in there like that before the safety help gets there and hitting the receiver in stride.

Ben is a fucking slanger. He is a great example of how he makes the receivers around him great. We have talent too to be sure, but it never works without a qb.

Speaking of the Steelers, we should rest everyone in our rematch against the Bungles. Fuck that creep Burfict. I don't want any of our good players on the same field against him. We are going to have to sacrifice Landry for the greater good of the team.

We're so-so with drafting linebackers. Jarvis Jones has been a bust, but Bud Dupree looked pretty solid in his rookie campaign. Shazier looks like an absolute game changer whenever he's on the field though. I'm more worried about our inability to draft players that can stay healthy. Even when a player has no history of a single injury at the high school or college level, as soon as we draft them - they're destined for injured reserve.

Yeah, maybe Bud turns it on when he gets healthy, truth be told I never saw it with him but I'm wrong all the time. Some guys take a little longer to develop. With that said, you guys used to develop OLB like nobody else, now you're on a hot streak with WRs.

“We were playing Indianapolis last year on a Monday night. It was a close game. Andrew Luck… scrambled one time and I was chasing him down trying to hit him. So he slid. Luck looked up at me and said, ‘Hey Luke, you want to help me up please? Little help please?’ I’m like, ‘Man why are you doing that?’ I was like, ‘I can’t not help him up.’”
—Luke Kuechly of the Panthers, on “The MMQB Podcast with Peter King” this week.

True..

Speaking of dreams, given this week's OT title, Week 3's should be: The Dream is Dead; Long Live the Dream.

Either that or "Where there's a System, there's a QB"
I'm okay with these

I can't remember a single time in my life where the Steelers have had not had a single decent receiver..

Damn it

Just draft Raekwon and break my heart again like y'all did with taking Heyward and Shazier.. Fucking Raekwon and Shazier.. Fuck.. That is scary..

I want to see a Raiders vs Bills game. Actually I just want to go to the parking lot and see what unfolds.
My buddy is a die hard Bills fan and he's told me many interesting stories from those Raider/Bills games. He's even flew out to Buffalo a couple of times to watch the Bills play.

Who is ready for the Wentz Wagon tonight?

I predict 35/35 for 550 yards, 5 passing TDs and 2 rushing TDs.

He'll also get 3 sacks. Not get sacked 3 times, but he will turn into the second coming of JJ Watt and be the first 60-minute man in the league in decades.

Who is with me?!?!?!?

Stop Jabee can get only so erect!

The Packers need a real play caller and just better game preparation from a strategic standpoint. In previous years they leaned on elite talent plus tough guy football to roll a mostly mediocre league. Now that their talent level has regressed back towards the mean, the deficiencies on their coaching staff are starting to show up. Tough guy football alone just doesn't work in 2016, see: Ryan, Rex. You need in-game smarts and a strategy heavily informed by data driven analytics.

It's gonna be sad when Brady comes back, I forgot how exciting it is to watch young quarterbacks develop

lmao fuck that, gimme my tommy!!!

One thing we can see is defense still rains supreme. Land a turnover and soon it turns from fuckball to your team doing the right thing. Creating turnovers and showing poise when it matters most. Those who walk the orange line know the Broncos have created their own destiny. Wild and free that is how they be. THE colt was cut free and let be to roam with Broncos. Cruising like a biker with lot of horsepower and tread left in those sore muscles.

Congrats to the Vikings for getting the win in a new stadium Defense prevailed this night. I am all about a division where one does not walk away so easily year after year.

#Texans A.J. Bouye had highest coverage grade at his position this wk. He held Travis Kelce to just one rec. for 3 yds & had 1 pass breakup

Bouye Island.

I'm watch a show called The Q.

Where is John de Lancie? Its just women talking about how many kids they have.

Fun fact: John de Lancie is from Philadelphia. His father was Principal Oboist of the Philadelphia Orchestra and also taught at the most exclusive music conservatory in the US, the Curtis Institute of Music.
