Very disappointed so far with the Xbox One S. What's going on here?

I know it's off-topic, but is Halo MCC really that bad? I was thinking of that being one of my first games I purchased when I buy a Xbox One in the future.

If you just want to run the SP campaigns it's fine. It you want to do anything with multiplayer then all I can say is you've been warned.

I played a decent amount of halo 5 during the post launch period and I never had a single issue. MCC was a nightmare at launch and was months after release.

The Xbox UI is ok. Every iteration of 360s UI was better; I'm not sure why they didn't mirror it from the get go.

I just ran the Network and multiplayer tests. They said everything is fine. Nat type is moderate.

I can try to put Xbox one in dmz to get open Nat but is that really necessary??

SP has been totally fine for me. Played all the games after eachother and didnt had a single issue. Didnt try MP.
Same herea, all the singleplayer stuff worked fine for me.

On topic though: I that the UI feels slow sometimes, but for me it's mostly related to the store, but I guess it's due to the downloading of new covers for all the games listed.

primarily why i haven't touched my xbox one since i got it for christmas. the UI is awful imo. i go by the thinking that UI's are like jokes. if you have to explain them it's not a good UI....i had to google how to even do basic stuff multiple times. they need to strip half of it away and just refine what it left.

If you hardly touch something you're never going to remember where things are. The settings page is actually very good, I mean have you ever tried looking for stuff on the PS4 settings? There's literally no logic at all to where they're sorting options, it's a settings hell they've added increasing number of options to since PSP.

Wow, I haven't had many of these issues other than the slow UI.

My console also shuts off from time to time when I'm in the middle of playing a game. Has anyone else had that issue?

Whoa that is NOT normal. Like other have said that is probably a fail safe being triggered. If you have not you might want to reach out to MS. Dont want to slowly cook your xbox.

I don't own a PS4 so I don't know how it compares but personally I have no issues with my XB1. I guess it doesn't perform as well as my PC but that's a given I guess

I don't think the bone has that extra arm CPU and RAM for suspend features that the ps4 has, does it?

lol The Bone had suspend/resume way before the PS4. It used to work great, but I've noticed that it hasn't worked as good ever since the Anniversary update

Something broke. I'm sure it will get fixed, but that and a dollar gets me a cup of coffee right now.

The OP may of hit a perfect storm with a buggy game (MCC worked good for me, but I never did MP) and some new "opportunities" added to the OS since the last big update

Yep, however it doest have a dedicated low power, arm CPU plus dedicated extra ram for suspend, unlike the ps4, thus, probably making that feature not as reliable as on the ps4?

It needs a lot of work. Snap feels worse to me for some reason now. I used to actually use it some. Apps crash or hang before loading often now. Suspend/Resume is also quite fickle. Works flawlessly for me on PS4 now. Apps in general are pretty bad too. Vudu is awful compared to the PS4 app.

I was pretty hopeful about the UI and OS in general, especially when they seemed to really be proactive about making it good. After the most recent PS4 update though, it's become a pretty rough experience in comparison, and the improvements don't seem to be coming. Would prefer a smoother experience or better streaming app/options as opposed to stuff like clubs personally.

There is no hyperbole if the problems are not exaggerated whatsoever.

There's no sense in defending a slow and broken UI.
Yep. Day one owner and the UI has not really improved at all (speed/lag). It is still far from the slick performance that was demonstrated all those years ago despite Phil's edict to the team to make it "fast and responsive".
Sadly, ive accepted that is how its going to be. Shrug.

Yeah the UI is a bit clunky, but I mostly only play games and all my games are pinned to my home screen. Literally just have to scroll down a bit and then I'm good.

However, the other feature I use the most besides gaming is using the Store, and it is definitely a chore. I try to avoid as much as I can, but it's hard since I chose to go digital.

Only weird quirk I've had with mine was it hard reset while I was not playing it while I was at my friend's house in MCC menus, sorta confused me and worried me since it was less than a week old at that point.

Hasn't happened since and I've played it a lot.

As ever, my UI works nicely. Friends, party etc appear super speedy, and I don't get lost in the UI. Maybe because I use my xbox for more than a weird brick I bought to then never play, I dunno.

Moderate is not good. You want Open. DMZ will help unless you have multiple XB1s on one network. In that case you would want to use IPV6 over IPV4 if possible.

Umm wat?

You sound like you're guessing. And you happen to be guessing wrong.

Even You admit to having to back out and close apps regularly, which means the suspend feature is broken.

Anyone with Xbone experience knows you have to hard reset/unplug the power from the back regularly to keep it running right.

The issues with audio disconnect in halo are a regular issue you can see on the forums. There's nothing wrong with his internet.

MCC is MCC.

Snap is fcked at the moment.

Where's the hyperbole?

This is your hyperbole right there.

Just because it has bugs does not make it broken...

Its funny going into different threads and seeing similar crazy, hyperbolic comments from the same posters. Don't know whether to laugh or cry, lol.

I've NEVER had to do this...
Don't believe you. Or you don't use your Xbone often enough to know. It's at least a once a week process when I'm using my bone every day.

As for MCC, the single player doesn't register checkpoints in some levels randomly. You have to complete an entire chapter sometimes or risk starting over sometimes an hour or more into the game. Really frustrating for my kids. There are a lot more issues in single player but it's The multiplayer that is borked with issues so vast that I will not list them.

If you haven't bought a Xbone yet, I would suggest you get a different game for your first experience. Halo5 is a much better experience, Forza is still glorious for a racing game, Sunset Overdrive is still my fav on the Xbone though.

Do yourself a favor and don't make MCC your intro experience to the Xbone.

Hard reset, unplug the power to keep it running right? No, not done this for maybe 1 year? I play it weekly.

Snap is not working correctly with HDMI input signal last time I checked.

I just don't have these issues, and I have 2. 1 launch and a year or so after launch.

You want it on open and you wont have connection problems with anyone. On moderate I think you have problems if you try to connect with anyone that has Strict setting.

Yeah, recently I've been thinking about taking a XO S since there's some exclusives that I'd like to play, but so many things are a joke in this console... :/ And the "no headset sorry" is one of the worst to me. I've always LOVED the MS headsets that they included with the 360 and the XO, it was "cheap" but it was working just fine, confortable, no need to buy something better (again: to me), it was really cool having that included... When I heard there's no headset in the box, I was very very disapointed. I thought that "crappy headset" included in the PS4 packs was the worst thing to do, but no.

That and the fact that they didn't fix this f***ing voice chat issues since day one... WTF are you doing MS? I remember buying a XO over a PS4 day one, for a friend addicted to MS and for Dead Rising 3 and everytime we were voice chating we had the EXACT SAME problems than OP! Since then I sold my XO and I heard a friend of mine saying that the he still has the same issues with the voice chats and yes it seems to still be the same since day one... Unbelievable.

I also heard that the new UI was not better than the first one, still damn slow and yeah it seems to be the case...

The 360 is one of my favorite console ever, I remember buying it day one and directly voice chating with my friend without any problem for hours, with the INCLUDED headset... Never had any issue on X360 (except 4 RROD, but it's a different thing...).

Well, MS must be too busy to congratulate themselves on twitter, to think to fix the flaws that the XO has since day one. Will wait until I can find a 99€ XO (won't be long: already spotted brand new at 180€ on sales) then.

Well I feel it's fair to call it broken when key features are literally broken, like snap, voice, suspend, resume, and memory leaks that cause the user to remove the power cable from the back regularly.

It's useable, yes. But it's quite literally broken in many aspects. How is that hyperbole?

While it is a completely boneheaded decision to require an Internet connection during a disc install(something I also found out about this weekend), a lot of OP's Halo 5 issues sound like network issues. The only three that aren't related to the networking are these:

-"When launching halo 5. It crashes on the splash screen back to the xbox home screen sometimes, requiring restart."
This sounds like a bad install.(Which could be related to requiring an internet connection during disc installs, but I'm not 100% sure)

-"Forge maps. There are alot of maps that have moving parts of the level. These will stop moving completely in all parts of the map for many minutes at a time. This made maps unplayable. "
The latest patch introduced a bug where a few of the Forge scripts don't function.

-"The game's graphics are disapointing. Is multiplayer 1080p? It looks low res at times with lots of aliasing and shimmering. On some maps, the environment textures lack any detail at all."
I don't know what maps you were playing, but there's a good chance it was a Forge map.

I run my cable TV through the Xbox so I use it everyday. My family switches between TV, games and apps multiple times a day. Suspend/Resume works with no issues for me and I don't have to unplug it.

Suspend and resume on the Xbo is easily inferior to the PS4 implementation. That said, when the console is on, it beats the PS4 approac.

Yep, however it doest have a dedicated low power, arm CPU plus dedicated extra ram for suspend, unlike the ps4, thus, probably making that feature not as reliable as on the ps4?

Don't think this is true. It's more to do with the different ways the UI works.

Its funny going into different threads and seeing similar crazy, hyperbolic comments from the same posters. Don't know whether to laugh or cry, lol.

Everyone of these threads have the same usual suspects handwaving away any complaints about the Xbox one UI. Swings and roundabouts.

The UI is indeed pretty awful - that delay on the side popout menu was really irritating.

I ended up selling mine (only because I built a gaming PC and that MS decision to release games on both platforms factored into that) and even the process to delete my profile off the system was a bit of a nightmare. It was always needlessly complex and hard to navigate. IMO of course. It's really ill thought out and I never though I'd see Sony improve on UI compared to Microsoft. They've done so much right (the headphone / speaker switching, Spotify, smooth OS, etc).

Lol

It's fucking cortana......holy shit she must really drag on processing power compared to the Kinect. The Kinect must have processed most of the voice commands and saved the Xbox some processing power OS wise or something. I just realized that since my restore my console was actually the smoothest it's been in a long time. I went to go use cortana and forgot I never reacitvated it.

Holy shit as soon as I did, shit was freezing, system became very sluggish and sometimes crashes would just appear out of nowhere. I am no longer using cortana holy crap lol.

The OS slugging has to be related to cortana and mic users. While the Kinect itself does have processing power and always has for voice functionality this might explain my problems and other users problems with a slow responsive OS

If you want it for the campaigns, those work pretty well besides the experience destroying bug in the last moment of the final game that makes it impossible to beat without reading the workaround on the internet. Just a minor thing that 343 thought wasnt worth fixing. Besides that they're good. It's worth at least the 8 bucks you can buy it for these days. They're great campaigns.

If you want it for multiplayer, the months of post-launch bullshit murdered the population prematurely and when they finally got around to patching it, the patches were more to get it to a basic frustratingly functional state rather than to a smooth and enjoyable state. The small population that still plays it has to deal with bugs that will never be fixed. If you're already buying it you might as well give multiplayer a shot, just don't get too hyped.

The dev claimed that they wouldnt drop it after 5 came out but you better believe that the moment that game released they dropped the MCC like a hot potato and swept it under the rug while asking everyone to buy their pizza skins.

If you want populated Halo multiplayer on XB1, 5 was released perfectly functional but extremely lacking in standard franchise features, the perk of "free DLC" used primarily as an excuse to fill in missing and unfinished features. However this many months post-launch, those features are now already in and you can buy the game at a discount. Sucks for launch-buyers but fantastic for current-buyers. The campaign was not received all that favorably it seems, though.

I just tried to browse the BC section from the consoles. BRUUUUUHH. WHY? No bullshit 8 minutes to look at Bayonetta, DE:HR and PD Zero, check their prices and look at 2 screenshots each. 8 fucking minutes spent staring at blank screens waiting on some 480p pics to load.

I saw guys posting earlier in this thread but I had no idea it was that bad
Guess it's all web store from here on out. I did learn that a few games were BC that I had no clue about though.

I guess I'm just unlucky. The whole store literally closes out on me and kicks me back to the main dashboard after viewing one game, and hitting B to return to the main BC listing page. Rebooting the console doesn't help. Is it running out of memory or something trying to load all the images?

Well I got a straight black screen for about a minute and a half the I got sent back to the dash because I think I hit B one too many times. I thought the console locked up on me.

I just browsed from the homepage to the store, scrolled all the way down to the BC games, clicked on Bayonetta, viewed all the Bayonetta screenshots, and looked at the price all in about 30 seconds. Timed it from cold boot, took 50 seconds to do all that.

What in the world is going on with your Xbox One?

EDIT: I see, going to See All in the BC list does take some time. And PD Zero has not aged well lol

I've made peace with most of the shortcomings like any other machine. The only thing that annoys me to no end is having to reboot or disable/enable in my Wi-Fi settings so the OS can connect to Live. Come to think of it, I should just use a cable since it's next to my router.
