Very disappointed so far with the Xbox One S. What's going on here?

Don't own an Xbox one but my friend does and it blew my mind that you cannot start a game unless it's updated. Cannot pause the download and play at all. Unless you unplug from the internet. Dumbest shit I've ever seen.

That would be my guess too. It's still infuriating though, because they've managed to ruin a responsive OS into a frustrating thing. I remember during the reveal conference Yusuf Mehdi showing the go home gesture and saying "see how fast that was ?". Faked or not, that is how fast it took to go home when the console launched. Now you press the guide button and are left wondering for a few seconds if it registered.
I'm not even sure what the current version is good at.

It's true. I really do hope Scorpio fixes it. It's Windows 10 on a console. My PC handles it like a dream. I would hope they retool it with the new hardware to make it at the very least, as responsive as PS4. It's gone from being a console trying to cater to a bunch of different shit no one wanted in their game console, to focusing on games for the most part while still having to cater to some bullshit, revision after revision. They don't have their heads up their ass anymore, so maybe they get it right.

Despite XB1's problems, I still go there for multi plattform games, shooters, community, controller (by a mile) and yes, the UI, slow as it is, rn. I just like the thing better. But there are areas where PS4 smokes it.

Are you guys using non official mics?

I'm using a standard 3.5mm headset. It should work on the Xbox One S controller. It works fine. The software is bugging out.

There is more to networks then speed.

Whats your NAT?

I have nat type 2 or moderate. Shouldn't be having issues.

Try using google DNS instead to see if it improves your performance.

https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

I will try this.

Oh boy, i'm glad detective-GAF is here.

That was my impression too. I'm not here to sabotage Microsoft, people.

I've had a PS4 for a few months and just picked up an Xbox One S last Friday. I absolutely love the XBO so far.

Sounds like things I experience with my non s xbox one. Other things you'll probably run into are suspend/resume not working with Halo MCC's campaign (you get kicked back to the main menu) and certain sections of the xbox store kicking you out and closing the app altogether (happened frequently to me on the backwards compatibility section).

Didn't IGN and others literally just confirmed that Xbox one S OS is actually faster than PS4?

Was never the case and it's especially not the case after PS4 4.0 update. The PS4 UI, after 4.0, is really fucking good and fast as f.

I always complained about the Xbox One UI since the beginning and even with the new interface, the input lag is still there and apps take too much time to open. This is my main complain about the system because otherwise, it's great.

No, the Xbox One S doesn't come with a headset which I found surprising.

It might be the headset causing the issue. The joining party issue is a long standing thing but I have played games with people across the US, Canada and Europe on a regular basis and the volume issue was never a thing, and we never got switched to game chat from party chat. Once we got in a party it usually stayed together, even if someone lost connection. I dont use the official headset btw.

OP, did you start a new account because the one you assigned to NGAF isn't showing H5 on your list which it should?

Since there can't possibly be any problems with the Xbox UI, the OP must have been making all of this up just to get attention, and you've revealed his nefarious plot. Great job.

So, every time I post about a specific game, does someone here check to see if it's on my account play list? Creepy.

I have nat type 2 or moderate.

NAT type 2 on PS4 is open iirc, if you all have moderate NATs on the Xbone that could be causing you issues. REQ issues with Halo 5 is normal (unfortunately) but parties disconnecting and getting disconnected from matches etc isn't normal in my experience.

I have experienced most of those issues OP. Even with Open NAT I still had tons of party chat issues.

Thanks for reminding me why I sold mine.

People should be pressing Microsoft on this more. To me, it basically fails the first rule here (0.1 second is about the limit for having the user feel that the system is reacting instantaneously)

I had the same issues you had when it came to party chat, but once I properly configured my Internet those issues went away. Haven't experienced the others though.

There is no way in hell this is true. The PS4 is so snappy compared to the Xbox One.
This was the preview version and it's faster now than it was in this graph. I don't believe it's been tested since firmware update on ps4, but this is the most recent, accurate account I believe is out there.

The UI for Xbox is bad and terribly slow. There are some days it is quick but most of the time it lags way too much. In terms of install noise when a disk is in that varies because I have had discs that install really loud and then those are are fairly quiet. Freezing on the splash screen then crashing happens from time to time but should not be constant.

Sent a message to a friend saying Hello takes 17 seconds in PS4.

Bullshit.

That no time to sent a message.

Source for this graphic?

That only allows you to adjust the mix and the volume of your headset. There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the level that your mic transmits at, which is frustrating. They say I am loud and my friend can barely be heard.

It does on my Xbox. There is a slider for mic monitoring right under the ones you just described

That is to hear your own voice in your own headphones. I'm telling you guys....there isn't a way to adjust your mic transmit level, which is crazy!

I don't need a chart, I play around with both of them on a nearly daily basis. While the Xbox One has some shortcuts to get to things, it's still feels sluggish and unresponsive as hell. Sometimes you have to go into a menu on PS4 but it's super fast and responsive. While technically you may be able to do something in less time on the Xbox One, the user experience is much worse.

.

You need it on open, you'll get loads more problems with the whole experience if you have reduced network connectivity, even seemingly simple things on the OS are directly tied to network performance.

Also, as someone has suggested use google DNS or OpenDNS to help with this.

You can go one better and benchmark a whole load of DNS providers using
https://code.google.com/archive/p/namebench/

and then choose the very fastest one (not just for your xbox one, but for everything on your network!)

Like others have said, the UI is generally slow and suspend/resume isn't the greatest, but I've never had any of those other issues. Seems weird.

I mean I could say the same stuff but ramble on a bit if that would make you feel better. I just got flashbacks of school just now.

try elaborating instead of saying things like "sounds like the Xbox one experience". Say why you think that is the case, actually add something to the discussion.

The fact his graph shows a 17 seconds to sent a Hello msg to a friend already deny it.

Lol @ the comment questioning if R dott B owns a Xbox One.

OT: like some people have said. Some of those problems seem to be unique to you OP.

You and your friends have had more trouble in days than I've had in three years with the system.

Haha

(Shrug, did you fully update the systems??)

Is your friend using an official xbox headset?

They have background noise cancellation built in, if the mic is to close to your friends mouth it will actually cancel out his own voice.
I've never had an issue with friend's voice levels be anything other than that

I can't source it for you but the timings aren't really all that accurate in FW 4.0 even if the graph was accurate initially.

I just tested some of that stuff out, especially the creation of a party and inviting 3 friends. I took me 8-9 seconds total.

Thats bizarre OP. Never experienced most of the things you said.

Do you even own one?

R dott B has plenty of comments praising Microsoft over Sony in the past. Pretty sure he's a quadruple agent and fights the war from all sides.

Seriously though, do all of you guys rushing to defend the UI own other consoles? From owning all since launch(sold Wii U), the PS4 definitely has the fastest UI. Almost every multi console owner that I've seen including a lot in this very thread agree. The NXOE is a huge improvement, but there are still elements that aren't exactly layer out logically.

I'd like to see a video of their UI operation instead of taking that bar graph to heart. IGN's(and gaming media) different sectors haven't exactly shown to be unbiased.

And please look up my accounts so you can see my Recore and Destiny achievements from the other day along with Catherine, Destiny and Dragon's Crown trophies from the past week.

Is there any kind of OS-wide reset I can do? I'd like to try doing that and then reinstalling the games.

The graph is not accurate since launch firmware... it never took 17 seconds to sent a Hello to a friend unless you take over 10 seconds to only write the message lol

8-9 seconds to Party invites is more inline with actual firmware.

It actually proves something. A few of you don't have the same experience he did. Just like I don't share the same with OP. It proved that experience may vary, which means it's probably not the OS. Possibly location or network issues.

People with issues. Go to settings, network, go offline. How does the OS work now? Simple check.

Id also recommend your friends do the same if you really all want to play together. Wont help much if your issues are resolved but theirs aren't.
