Forza Horizon 3: Review Thread

At least I know that if the PC version has issues, I can still play it on Xbox.

It seems to be scoring better than FH2 which is one of my favorite racers of all time, so this is good.

I never doubted you, Playground. Demo confirmed everything for me. Congrats on all the great reviews! Can't wait to get lost in this. :)

It comes with all the DLC cars, so you're probably paying like $10 to play early if you actually want to be obsessive about it.

Ah well I didn't realise it was DLC as well (So many versions of games these days I always get the bog standard edition).

But still don't like how they are forcing you to buy the top end digital edition for a few days more play.

Always good to see a game getting great reception, even though I'm personally not all that interested in it (no open world racing game has managed to hook me yet, in fact it's usually the opposite, it's off putting to me). I'll be watching some reviews here and there, but very much doubt there's something in this game for me to keep me from cancelling my preorder (and that's okay, not every game can be for everyone). Not to mention I have big purchases coming up with PSVR and the Pro (and maybe a 4k tv as well).

Anyways, congrats Playground Games, and congrats to the fans of the genre as well.

PS. For those wondering why I had it preordered in the first place, because I'm Canadian, and the game prices here are ridiculous. Deal savvy folk here preorder nearly everything that's available during e3 discount sales just in case, and cancel closer to release if the game is not turning out to be interesting to them.

I watched your video on the HDR stuff, kinda bummed out a bit because I was considering getting the XBR800D series soon which is edge lit, normally I'd wait for the tech to mature as well but I really wanted to get something this holiday and can't get the expensive ones. How bad would you rate the issues with the edge lit and HDR are, is it a significant, immediately noticeable thing or is it just a thing of good not great?

I have some video of the different issues coming soon.
I personally hate it.

Simple question, If I buy the digital key from amazon US and set my W10 location to US (Lets say im on a vacation outside the US) Will it still work?

Alright I'll keep an eye out.

This is the type of game that turns people into genre lovers, so might be worth checking out more than usual.

The ACG video review is great. Very positive, but still critical of some things and very thorough. Will watch their reviews in the future.

Also, will likely pick this game up unless PC version is borked. Exciting.

First time I've ever forked over the cash for an ultimate edition. I was feeling really ill inside from spending the money, but these reviews have me pumped again.

Now let me pre-load MS!!! I can download the VIP, Car Pass....all of it except the actual game. Grrrrrrr.

Check out the demo if you have an Xbox One, if not done already. :)

Thanks glad you liked it man. My only real want is to make sure folks understand how I came to the rating even if they disagree at least they understand I reviewed the game and explained it well.

Should be in a day or so

So "Play Anywhere" means Microsoft is now charging the price of a console game for a PC game? Sure, I know you get both versions, but I just want the PC version, since I don't own a Xbone.
Was thinking about buying this game, but I was shocked after opening the store page. 70€ :(

Indeed! The attention to the sound is really appreciated. Sound design can make or break some games for me.

Subscribed! :)

go for the lg b6, c6 or e6 oleds. i will do the same next year with scorpio arriving!

Yep I tested everything in all combinations which took a good deal of the review time.
I ended up using nothing on and found it to be completely fair and with knowledge about driving and some for thought completely doable by most.

You will see various assists on and off throughout that video for just that reason

Thanks bro, sorry I missed it. I played the last game without assists and thought it was a great blend of sim and arcade. Glad to know I can do the same.

Thinking about doing co-op with the wife on seperate computers.

You should check out the composer interviews I did. Austin Wintory and Jesse Harlin(Mafia 3) recently.

Sound design is insanely important. I think the reason some don't cover it, is the fact that its a bit hard to cover compared to just pointing and graphics and yelling pretty. Or discussing bullet points. It also takes an insanely long amount of time to check.

That would be a blast. Sadly I need to get the engine upgrade for my wife that makes her like racing games.

You sure did. Btw - do you need a theme/jingle for your videos?

buy in the us store or in singapore. should be at least save you more than 10€.
all you need is a vpn and a credit card valid abroad.
as i for myself been all digital since the start of this gen i never bought games in my home store. on some games i saved €30 with deluxe editions.

Samsung KS8000
LGb6
Pseries vizio.

Due to how the game works and all the various locations each had some issue and each had places they stood out.
LG looked the best for sure. But neither other TV was a slouch. KS8000's edge lighting got in the way whenever they had any kind of letterboxing which is very often and you can see pillaring here and there. But I don't think most folks will be bothered by that. Nighttime races were a tossup.

One thing about HDR. People are straight up going to have to get accustomed to fiddling for a great deal of time for each game and each tv.

I was passing the game from one xbox to the HDR HDMI input of one tv and then the S to the other HDMI input and switching between the same local area(took some friggen time let me tell you) and as I stated in my primer videos. If you never see the HDR your fine. IF you do...its like night and friggen day.HDMI

My apologies if you mention this in the video, but I can't watch it at the moment. What did you think of the performance of the B6 with an HDR signal in regard to input lag? Was it a hindrance. Curious what I'm in store for since I have the c6. Nice to hear it's lovely through :)

As far as I can see this is the best Metacritic score for any racing game on any platform in 5 years. (Prior to that it was Forza.. And Forza before that).

Well done to turn 10 , the demo was fantastic and It's a great showcase title for the Xbox one .

Also kudos for showing my home country off so well (even if it is on the wrong coastline :) )

I spent so much time grinding for the Lotus E21...
And then it was just gifted to the VIPs. I ended up with so much money in Forza 5 after they tried to "fix" the economy and in both FH2 and FM6, I have millions of credits while having a ton of cars in my garage to pick from. I would presume that FH3 will be similar as well so I'm sure any car I really want will be relatively easy to get. If you want ALL of the expensive/rare cars, that can take a bit more time but still not too much grinding.

What were your B6 settings for HDR on this? Did you just go default in game mode or have to change things up?
