"I feared for my life"

What is up with the taser then shot to death? Just so sad to see this. Reading a freaking book waiting for his kid?? This stuff makes me afraid of the police and I'm white.

I wonder if American cops have any kind of self awareness of how they are perceived by not only US citizens but people around the world?

Christ, RIP to the victim and thoughts go out to his family

They're aware, but they've warped it into a pity party where everyone else is the bad guy

Such a senseless, cold blooded murder.

I'm sorry this country and the ones who are supposed to protect you, failed you. You didn't deserve this. RIP.

My sympathies to the loved ones. This is heartbreaking.

How do all these police officers killing innocent people sleep at night?
Snugly. Completely convinced it was another random day. It truly reminds me of Bison's quote:

"For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. For me, it was Tuesday.”"

These murderers probably convince themselves they've done a good thing by keeping "pieces of shit" off the street.

It really is only a matter of time before someone gets killed playing Pokemon Go. I occasionally find myself sitting in a car after dark trying to take down or build up a gym in and empty parking lot, and I think about stories like this.

So what would the most appropriate punishment for the officer be?

Anybody else getting to the point where they just don't even know what to say anymore with these threads?

Just (...)

I keep asking where are the prosecutions? No courts? No investigations? When an officer is at fault for something like this, they should be sentenced as murderer. I don't give a fuck about what his employer does (leave or no leave). I care that there is no trial, no sentencing/verdict, no one being sued. It is sicking and I will remain to be sickened and voice out for something to be done.

What a pathetic state of extreme selfishness and complete disregard we have become. "If I, personally, don't get run over, fuck the world". Oh, the things that shit like this make me want to do.

This is concerning the topic of pigs acting like pigs and the general question of 'why society doesn't give a fuck anymore', and not about the person being quoted. I'm using this quote to say something.

Saying these cops failed this individual is too mild, it doesn't sum up the situation. In order to fail someone, you first need to be supposedly acting in their best interest. The police are not there to serve black men in America.

At a certain point, all you can call this is open season on black people. What is the end goal here?

By a cop or someone else? Because the latter already happened in San Francisco like a month ago.

Well one side is clearly lying here:

Story 1
The victim’s daughter,... found out that her father was dead via the news while recording from the scene of the shooting. The victim’s brother said he was holding a book, not a gun, and was just waiting on his son to be dropped off after school.

Story 2
WBTV reported that the woman said she heard police come up to the man yelling at him to get his hands up, and then breaking open the car window. She claimed he was Tasered and then shot four times. In the video, she said the man was disabled, didn’t have a gun and was even scared of them.

Police Statement
The subject exited the vehicle armed with a firearm
...
The subject got back out of the vehicle armed with a firearm
...
Detectives recovered the firearm the subject was holding

this almost exact scenario happened in harold and kumar

ofc that was satire and this is real life

still sad

Depends on the race of the victim

Yo, seriously, do these cops need fucking glasses? Everything looks like a damn gun.

Book = gun
Phone = gun
Pencil = gun
Kid with toy = gun
T-Shirt = gun under t-shirt
Hands down = reaching for gun
Hands up = threatening position

Black folk could go out completely naked and cops would still see guns in their hands.

They wear racist glasses that let every black person appear like a threat.

So what would the most appropriate punishment for the officer be?

Paid temporary leave and a raise upon return, naturally. Apparently that's the fucking status quo with shit cops.

Sadness is turning to frustration and anger. This shouldn't be happening.

As said in the Tulsa thread, at this point, I would hope that they're fired and banned from working law enforcement or security for the rest of their lives.

What the ideal punishment should be is a murder charge.

You're right. I'm just calling out the bullshit of the pledge to begin with. Police are supposed to protect and serve, but they continue to do the opposite.

I try to run that home as much as possible. These aren't protectors of the people. This is a government sanctioned gang spitting on the lives of black people while everyone just watches...

Well one side is clearly lying here:

Problem is time and time again even in "justified" shootings the initial reports tend to be falsified with things exaggerated to make it seem they had no choice. I just take the police report with a grain of salt; there is no motivation to not give a heavily PR version of the facts, if not outright lie, because even when charges are filed nobody gets in trouble for false reports.

Sad thing is when comparing someone emotionally destraught and emotional about the death of a loved one vs the supposed impartial protectors of peace and order...you dont know who to believe. And that lack of trust lies strictly at the feet of the police department.

A lot of news stories like this get posted here, but this one is just ridiculous. A book was mistaken for a gun?

911 is a joke.
A few weeks ago, my mother called 911 because someone was trying to get into the house. When the dispatcher asked her to describe the person (she could see him through the window blinds), they said "Is he black or hispanic?" It was a white guy, by the way.

Edit:
they claim he “posed an imminent deadly threat to the officers” and one of them opened fire.

call me stupid, but after having started watching the wire, i feel like sentences like these are something the cops thought up in script to say for the record/report or whatever but may not've been the whole truth.
