She goes into some pretty specific details. The dash cam and body cam footage needs to be released. The back and forth of contradictory details is really upsetting me.

Dashcam footage probably won't be released. Don't know if posted yet but..

Moments after Mayor Jennifer Roberts pledged transparency in the police killing of Keith Scott that sparked violent overnight protests, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney said his department will not release body camera footage from the incident.

Putney claimed he is unable to release the footage because state law requires a court order to publish such videos. “The law is pretty specific, especially around criminal evidence for an investigation,” he said. “I cannot release that.”

The new state law stripping local officials’ decision making authority over police camera footage kicks in on October 1. After the end of next week, citizens and officials alike will need a court order to get videos like these released in the public interest.

I work at the Carolina Place Mall in Pineville, NC which is basically right beside Charlotte. The mall was DEAD tonight. Everybody who's smart was staying at home watching all of this play out on the news.

Yup, you're reading it correctly.

oh ok

I get that but there's apparently video. You can't really argue with that. If there's something dodgy going on its going to become clear straight away.

Obviously there's lots of other questions but the basic story is so different somebody is lying.

Well look at the Alton Sterling shooting, witnesses say he wasn't doing anything. There's the video that doesn't make the cops look good, but people will say the police were just doing what they had to do and neutralized a threat.

Trigger Warning

One protester dead due to another protester yet no arrests with all of those police around?

Given the videos floating around of the incident and the chaos at the time, I'm not sure how they would know who to arrest. Hopefully someone caught the shooter on their phone and can give it to the police, although it is terrible to even be hoping for that when such an incident shouldn't have happened at all.

Ok this is getting scary. I mean like the reporters are just there to show what's happening. Why attempt to assault them?

Local TV news, by-and-large, dropped the ball tonight. This is a huge story in our community.

Local networks (mostly?) stuck with network programming tonight on their main feeds, though I understand that some had protest coverage on alternate feeds.

Hello, this is our city, this is happening?

(Not to go completely local for a minute...)

I understand that they can't release the footage because of procedures that need to be done, but they really need to clarify what actually happened ( yes yes, I know the chief has made statements). If they were able to prove without a doubt that the police story is true, then we wouldn't have these protests/riots

State Police there now....

Man when the inevitable non indictment comes down, I can only imagine how ugly this will get...Tulsa too.

But North Carolina is an open carry state, so....

What does it matter? You can't come out with a gun in your hands when the police are approaching you. It is supposed to be holstered, your hands empty. If the pic is real, witnesses said the cops yelled multiple times to drop his weapon.

It seems like he came out with it in his hands. That picture is pretty damning stuff, if it's not doctored.

Cops really need to release that video

There was some talk earlier on MSNBC (didn't hear it clearly) of some recently passed rule or law that prevents police footage from being released immediately until it's been requested or approved by a judge or something stupid like that.

while that's true there have been conflicting reports from witnesses saying he never had a gun, or that he had a gun and it was holstered, or that he had a book instead of the gun, etc.

also note the red shirt cop with the baldish head that that one witness said originally shot the guy. first images of him im actually seeing.

Until we have a video I don't understand how this is the narrative you've concluded on.

We legit have zero idea what happened besides dude was in his car then dude died.

It may prove he was armed when the family says he wasn't. Doesn't prove any guilt or reason to be shot but it goes against the story being told.
Don't get hung up on the issue of him having a gun or not in a state that allows having a gun or not too long.
