It is a 30 minute video with the head of the game company and a technical artist discussing the ins-and outs of teh character tech with pictorial and video examples. If that is not detailed... then I do not know what is.
Considering we get 28 page threads when someone's fart sounds like the letters "NX"...
RightI was talking about Uncharted 4 when I said gameplay model, actually. I mean, you can dislike all the heavy post processing effects in The Order (I'm not a big fan myself), but you can't deny that they are part of what makes the game look so damn good. And yes, I'm aware that the DoF is used to hide most of the game's flaws. But I'd argue that it is a brilliant move on limited hardware.
As for Star Citizen, if the models do indeed look like that in game, my mind will be blown.

I don't disagree that it's interesting information, but face it, GAF as a whole isn't all that receptive to SC news. Part of that is due to the console centric nature of the forum. Then there's the not insignificant portion that dislikes crowdfunding. If the news is major, the positive impressions can outweigh the negative tangents, but stuff like this? Just tends to give a new avenue for people to lodge their "concerns" among other things.

People don't care.
Because they don't care, all you get is those that enjoy shitting up threads.

I guess like some idiot, I just want to believe in the good of this forum.
Perhaps I should start drinking my ear grey tea a bit hotter...
The forum is good. Mostly. It's just that between the console focus and genre preferences, there's only so many people that will care enough to post in such a thread in a positive way. Assuming they even open it in the first place. The minority that has an axe to grind for one reason or another, however, will take any opportunity to make themselves heard. This wouldn't be bad if it didn't require a constant defense to counteract. (And if this election has proven anything, it's that you need to counteract misinformation, lest other people start assuming it's the truth.)

Well... I prefer earl grey myself, but to each his own.
Also, link to thread?
Really cool to hear they're working with the people that did Ryse on the heads as well, thought they did a great job there even in gameplay

Although Im not sure how expressive SC gameplay characters will be since alot of times they'll be in helmets
I doubt when I'm walking around on Terra I'll be in a helmet. I mean, it'd defeat the purpose of me being able to make a character that looks like me.
Sure, but I guess I'm more referring to all of the work they are doing on expressions for the faces-- hopefully we can convey those in meaningful ways in the social areas.
Also it would be awesome if we could have this happen whenever we pulled off our helmets lol

[What is the purpose of facial animations for player characters?] They have some really cool ideas that they don’t want to go into it yet because they’re not ready to be spoken about, but there are some cool ideas of why they’re important.
This looks insane.
Neogaf is a lot more receptive than other websites I've been to. The hate and contempt people seem to have for Star Citizen is almost surreal. Like, how can anyone be that passionate about hating a video game?I don't disagree that it's interesting information, but face it, GAF as a whole isn't all that receptive to SC news. How long till we get a game that lets us scan our own faces on to our character models?
How long till we get a game that lets us scan our own faces on to our character models?
Well check out those sports games from EA and 2K they have that with varying degrees of success. (it's usually bad)
They talk about it in the video actually and think its possible but figure that most people would be using webcams or other setups that wouldn't match the fidelity in the game, as seen in other games that have supported it.

That video was really good. All that tech is amazeballs
We don't have it overly negative here, but that's different from having a community that's actively excited about relatively minor news. Additionally, I'd say the reason that we're as well off as we are here is in part due to the actions of the few to constantly address questions and correct misinformation. If the naysayers were never addressed, I'd wager that the general attitude towards the game would be much more negative. This requires the fan base to be on alert every time there's a new thread though, and that can understandably be tiring.Neogaf is a lot more receptive than other websites I've been to. At least here even the worst Star Citizen naysayers are mostly polite and give out reasons. And when there is a major event, the thread gets pretty damn popular. I'd say we have it pretty well here.
I hope they release the character creator as it's on module to let people try it out, then let's us import what we've made into SQ42.
Because it always takes between an 1 hour and 40 mins to 2 hours to make myself in games that have the option, and i always feel a little rushed because i've already spent so much time just on that. And just want to get on with the game.
That video was really good. All that tech is amazeballs
*sigh* But after watching the whole thing, i am concerned that's it's not going to be as detailed a character creator as eve online and BDO are. (I haven't played either, but have watched vids of em)
I have thing where i have to make myself exactly in games that let you, and have never been able.
And i was really hoping that Star Citizen's character creator would finally allow me to.
Sorry for the poorly worded post, it's late and i've should have done this earlier.
It won't be as detailed. But you also won't be able to make abhorrent monsters with it.
This is critical. The advanced character editors in modern MMOs allow a huge range of adjustments to allow the creation of many different bodies and faces. On the flip side, they also allow people to make crazily deformed creatures. I really don't want to see that shit in SC. It's annoying enough in fantasy MMOs.

Certainly would prefer Angus Thermopyle to Shrek. Why are questioning my Shrek in space RP character?
AtV 3.8 is up
Edit: Goddamn, that modular satellites and buildings section was fantastic.

Yeah, great avatar.Love the new avatar, Geist.

Yeah, great avatar.
The section with Ivo Herzog was fantastic btw. I was really curious how they achieved the eye and head stabilisation, and well... now we know!
God dammit this stabilization tech. omg
Fucking birds, they're gonna outlive us all.
We finally got to see the legendary 60Herzog. Absolutely sensational.
Anyone has a link to vision stabilization video on VIMEO?
They uploaded it to youtube, but its not as smooth as on vimeo.

Think the Witcher 3 vs something like Fallout4. The former has really nice looking faces for all characters, even the lowliest NPC where as the latter had the world populated by rubber dummies.
Witcher 3 used the same idea they talked about in the video about mixing and matching high quality assets to create new faces. As a result they all animated and looked nice, even if they didn't have the same volume of possibility.

I understand they don't want Bethesda style abominations flying around the verse. I really do.Personally, I take a simple selection of good looking templates with various additive elements for a few thousand permutations over limitless sliders that enable abhorrent creations with disgusting color palettes that tank my immersion.
Skin tone should be technically possible. That's just color modifications to textures. Hair isn't going to happen unless you have a fairly standard hair style. There's just too many hair styles and coloring techniques out there.I understand they don't want Bethesda style abominations flying around the verse. I really do.
But i just want to make me. I don't want to be anyone else.
And now i'm afraid i'm not even going to be able to get my skin tone or hair style. Which is very important to me.
I've never been able to get my skin tone or hair in a game that offers them. (let alone my face just right) And it's really depressing.
I shouldn't have stalled making this post to the end of night again. because i'm frazzled, and all the things i wanted to say have flown completely out of my mind. So i apologise.
I hope you guys understand where i'm coming from.

They didn't really outright answer when the question was asked, but didn't they say it will be similar to Black Desert's level of customization?
Just how beautiful are you, Shy?
They said the opposite. It won't be like BD where you have set bases that you then edit vertex data on. Instead it'll be mixing and matching of different parts of scanned heads. They want to avoid the pitfalls of the BD style creation system.
If you can move around features like the cheekbone, eyes, and mouth, why wouldn't you be able to alter things like lip size, jaw width, nose bridge height, etc? I could be wrong though.
Because they don't want this running around the verse:

With great flexibility comes responsibility. Something users have proven incapable of handling. =P
