Civilization 6 announced, out October 21st

Just a PSA from that link.

Can't believe I missed GMG discount by less than 24 hrs. :/

Always a good idea to check the list of countries before buying. On the UK site I'm getting "This game is region locked and will only activate in Europe, Africa, middle East and Canada."
edit: Ah I just noticed your pic says it _can't_ be activated in those countries. Thanks!

Why? Steam is like the only place selling it at retail, everywhere else you can get it 20-25% cheaper. And its a steam key no matter where you buy it, so all your doing is paying more for the exact same thing.
Oh, didn't know about it, guess some links have been shared here? I usually buy my games on Steam.
A lot of people derive happiness from spending money they don't have to.
Uh...? What? No happiness from this transaction other than knowing I'm getting the game. If I can get it for cheaper, I want to do it. No need to try to be funny :/

I'm just watching Quill's gameplay and the technologies being researched don't even vaguely match up with the current year it is supposed to be, for example, the current year is 1110 AD and and Quill's cities look like they have skyscrapers, he's close to being able to research flight which didn't happen IRL until 1900's, I know science rate will make it so it doesn't exactly match up , you may learn things slower and vice versa but at the moment, it seems really off

It's the preview build everyone got, right?

Prince difficulty FTW. It has been like that in all civ games.

I've seen so much Civ 6 already that the game is not going to feel new at all by the time I actually get to play it, lol.

I briefly looked at Alex Navarro's preview on Gamespot and he was in modern ages in the 1600s IIRC. I think there's something a bit off with the science in the preview, hopefully something they will have tweaked by release or soon after.

Hmm, modern ages at 1600s is a bit early, yes.

I hope they did not fuck up the balancing.

I imagine the science numbers will be balanced better by the time the game hits. This build they're on is already like a month old I think Firaxis said. And being played at relatively easy difficulty by a bunch of people used to consistently winning Immortal or above in CiV. So I'm cautiously optimistic.

I tried playing Civ5 again a couple days ago, but I think all the footage/previews of 6 just spoiled me.

Now, all I can see in 5 are just the missing features. I guess that's what happens when you have over 600 hours logged, lol.

If you haven't played the Community Balance Patch you should give that a shot. Doesn't solve the different features, but it does pretty well revitalize the base game.

I didn't watch much because I want to go in fresh. But this is a bummer. What are the balancing problems to expect?

Problems are inevitable with such a complex game, especially at launch. I haven't played the game, so I'd rather not reurgitate the concerns of streamers/fans. Either way, as with Civ 5, fans will fix things anyway.
I wouldn't worry about it. At the very least it seems the game will launch in a much better state than Civ 5 did. Not that the game will necessarily be better though.

I feel like I've played Civ5 (recent) games where I've had modern tech by the 17-1800's as my strategy is to rush tech at all cost. I doubt balancing can fix that too much, though I am curious if sciene trading and such will cause some AI rubber banding if the player gets too far ahead.

I'll ussually roll out subs hundreds of years before the next AI gets them, and once daddy gets subs, everyone loses.

I've never played a Civ game where the technology / science has ever, even remotely, lined up with the historical timeline in terms of rate of research, etc. I don't understand why people are shocked that this is also the case in Civ6? It isn't a historically accurate game.

When I was playing Civ 5 complete on King my tech progress lined up pretty well with their historical dates, but I recognize that I play fairly casually. I'm sure patches or mods will address any tech speed issues pretty quickly.

For any Civ5 players that want an ahistorical science progress experience, I heartily suggest Babylon or Korea. You will be using battleships while other civs are floating about in caravels and frigates.

I am usually several hundred years ahead of normal tech progression in my Civ 5 games, so I'm not sure how the Civ 6 streams can be viewed as bad. It is well within the capabilities of a skilled player.

A nice wireless Logitech HTPC keyboard + a trackball made it work wonderful for me. Now all my civ 5 (and other mouse driven games) are super easy to play on my HTPC, just took a few days to get 100% use to.

I own a steam controller but have never been able to use it for more than 5 minutes without getting frustrated.

this guy made HTPC gaming easier than ever, always sits next to me on the couch, I can play anything with it without issue: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043T7FXE/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Did you find a mod for a good UI scaler? Ultimately that is my biggest issue is the UI is too damn small on my TV. If I could fix the UI I would be happy.

They're playing on prince difficulty, too. Thats like 2 higher than the lowest one.

It's probably too early, but has multiplayer been tested yet? The fact that it barely worked for Civ5 was heartbreaking.

Have you signed in? The extra discount only shows when you sign in

no sale showing up on mine either, usually launch sales start 5 days before the game is out. I'm in the US, logged in, check VIP and the game page. 20% off isnt worth ith, would rather just grab a physical copy from Best Buy or Amazon for the same 20% as I do not necessarily like GMG's policies. (upfront taking of cash on pre-orders, they wont give you the best price if they do a sale before the game launches, ect ect. Basically they are a gamble on when to buy the game and often screw over early pre-ordering customers)

It worked with 4-5 people for us, until maybe turn 100-150. Then it would start getting suuuper laggy.

I am not seeing anything on Google so I'll ask here. Has hotseat multiplayer been confirmed for Civ 6?

Has anyone had any experience with cdkeys the key selling site and refunds? I preordered Civ 6 before the region lock info came out and now they have a global key and a locked key. hmm

I found 3+ Steam threads asking the same thing and no answer. Apparently Civ 5 had hotseat added after release.

I've never done it, but I'm in the same boat now. I doubt it will be that hard.

Which version di you guys get? Normal or delux? The delux only adds some smaller DLCs, not extensions, right?

I'm not sure if they've elaborated on the size of the dlc packs.
Expand your empire further with the Civilization VI Digital Deluxe which includes the full base game, the 25th Anniversary Digital Soundtrack, and access to four post-launch DLC packs* that will add new maps, scenarios, civilizations and leaders for a bundled discount.

*Save vs buying DLC packs a la carte. Individual DLC may be sold separately. If you purchase the Digital Deluxe, do not also purchase these standalone packs, as you will be charged for them.

I know nothing about this game, but I'm going to buy it(weird). Is there any sweet but short videos that give a general idea of what to expect over the last few entries without watching hours of videos?

Are you experienced with Civ? Might be better off to get the complete version of Civ 5, which is very polished st this stage.

Edit, then come back and get this after a few expansions.

I've played all the Civs in the past 15 years. I just want a general summary of what to expect because I've heard this one is a pretty big paradigm shift.

Looking forward to playing this on my Surface Book. I haven't seen any impressions yet on how it runs on Surface devices yet, but Civ 5 ran beautifully so I have hope. It'll look stunning at 3k x 2k.

Only if they get the GUI scaling right.

I hope I can run it at 1080p on my SP2 and that it'll have touch controls from the start. Beyond Earth had them even before they officially patched them in.

As an update to this 2 emails later and they refunded it confirming that anyone who bought the key prior to the region lock info would get the EU key. So if anyone is in the same boat email customer service and they will refund it.

Civ 5 worked pretty good on my Macbook Pro in full resolution. The UI looked crap because of the low res textures but the scaling was fine.

Is it any different on Windows? (I don't use a high res screen with my PC)
