Nomura talks Final Fantasy VII Remake in Dengeki PlayStation

Tbh though, I don't think it's far fetched to expect Episode I to be out next year. I mean it's obvious they don't want VII to steal XV's thunder.

What did everyone expect ?

They were rushed by Sony to produce unwarranted hype.

FF7R was announced at a stupid time. They already had FFXV and KH3 to release and promote.Obviously the game had to wait.

Why would it be Sony and not just SE doing what they always do, announce shit way to early?

Don't know why people make these threads. "Hey guys Nomura said nothing, come in here to make jokes!" I guess the news about the battle system is new though, so nvm. Curious to see how this handles.

Anyways don't take back your word on more KH3 news in the winter Nomura, no more wait.

Wake me in 2020 when the game actually releases.

Definitely still excited for the game, but man...planning a trailer or something doesn't really excite me. Square releases info way too early...

Because SE has never announced something long before it was due to release.

I'm sure they said they'll show something Winter 2016 didn't they?

"Look out for more information this Winter" or something along those lines.
That was KH, FF7 info was said would be released when world and 2.8 were out if my memory serves me correctly.

I'm expecting a 2017 or early 2018 release. If 2018, then I expect they'll do an uncovered event for the 20th anniversary.

As far as we know, this game doesn't have any game engine struggles, theyre out sourcing development help, and the scenario is pretty much already fleshed out. This is a very different situation compared to versus xiii.

You work at Sony and have background knowledge on why the trailer was released when it was?

Came into thread expecting disappointment, as per usual with the amount of info Nomura usually gives out.

Expectations exceeded.

2016: FFXV
2017: KH3
2018: FF7R: Part 1
2019: FFXVI

That's what I'm hoping.
Also, if they manage to hit 2018 I don't see how that's being announced early for SE.

Nomura's interviews have to hold the crown for worst words-to-info ratio. Square in general, actually. So much uttered, so little said.

im dying right now

This is the same way he was talking about FFv13 over the years.

2018 Fall the earliest. Maybe a demo like platinum for FF15 if were lucky

I kinda feel sorry for Nomura, lol. This is the third time a big project of his got revealed too early. First Versus, then he even said in interviews around E3 '13 that KH3 was being revealed too early again, and flash-forward 3 years later and the same thing happens again with FFVIIR. Though, to be fair, we don't know if FFVIIR might not actually be coming along perfectly well and SE just wants to do the same approach as most AAA games nowadays, showing very little until 6 months before release and then go all out marketing-wise. Which is a good thing honestly after FFXV's drip-feed, rollercoaster approach (which of course was kinda understandable considering the very unique and unfortunate development history it had and they probably felt the need to proof the game is really being developed now by making Episode Duscae and having all these ATR livestreams, trailers, and whatnot from '14 onwards).

I remma being excited by the FFVII Remake reveal but that was 2 years ago? feels like just recently. time sure goes by fast.

Yeah, I honestly think so too. ~3 years for the first episode doesn't seem too unrealistic considering they already had a finished engine and help from CC2, especially when you consider that FFXV is the bigger and more ambitious game and was made alongside an unfinished engine in only ~4 years (Verendus seems to agree, see this and this :D).

We don't know of course if Sony pushed them or SE themselves wanted to make the PS4 more attractive to increase the user base. Nomura himself said they were hoping to boost PS4 sales basically:

SE seems more interested in throwing pointlessly elaborate press events, than actually committing to releasing games on time.
Releasing part 1 of the remake is obviously the best way to celebrate VII's 20th anniversary. Fans get to drown in their nostalgia and childhood memories while playing a beloved game in new light. It's a win win.
Deliver something more than just a fancy event with a trailer, c'mon Square...

I cannot believe they're doing this episodically, yet are still slow to get it out the the door.

Speaking of Tabata, if remaking FF games becomes a thing I would like to see him direct a VIII remake. I know VI is his favorite but I feel like he would be a good fit for VIII for some reason.

Man, whenever I'm reminded that Nomura is in charge of this it's like a punch to the gut. Every time. Please don't turn it into Advent Children x Kingdom Hearts

That's exactly what you're going to get and you're going to enjoy it!
:(

Even if we assume that FF7R is 100% done and ready at this very moment, they'd have to wait till they can release it.

SE has a loooot on their plate right now.And yes,the longer they wait to talk about it,the better. So that when they actually decide to talk they'd have a lot to say.

I agree actually. VIII feels very Tabata.

Ito should make a return for FFVI Remake.

Yeah, I'm not expecting this until at least 2018 if not later. Maybe a demo a la Duscae or that Kingdom Hearts thing at most.

I can't even begin to fathom a guess at when all the parts of the remake will be done. Unless they plan on releasing subsequent pieces quicker after the first, well into the 2020's is no fucking joke.

Did you guys think a modern day representation of Final Fantasy VII would be quick? It was always going to take a long time even if they didnt overhaul the combat and expand the game. But guess what, this isnt 2005 Square Enix. They have Unreal Engine 4, they have over a decade of experience with HD development, they dont have to worry about the Cell and other drastically different platforms, they have better management, and FF7remake isnt going to get shoved to the side for FFXIII sequels.

Its going to take time, but its coming out, just forget about the game for a while, we have good stuff to look forward to in the meantime from SE. World of FF is this month, FFXV is next month, 2.8 2 months after that. Chill.

VIIR's reveal didn't feel too early for me. It would if all we had until now was the E3 trailer, but the gameplay trailer showed at PSX was surprisingly advanced. If it takes a long time to come out, that's just because it's taking a long time to make. Unlike Versus that wasn't even in development for a long time, or KH III that switched engines after being announced and getting its first trailer. FFVII seems to be coming along quite well.

But Nomura's way of avoiding questions is still hilarious to me.
