Games you remember, names you don't

Not sure if there’s enough to go on here but I’ve been impressed by many of the quick responses in this thread:

This game was in the arcades in 1988, however it may have been released a bit earlier, but not much as the graphics were fairly contemporary. I don’t think it ever received a home conversion.

At the intro an 80s type rock band with a female singer are playing a concert, the singer is kidnapped by what I think were aliens, and the rest of the band cry out her name, the game is a scrolling beat em up type game where the other band members use their instruments as weapons and keep shouting the singer’s name every so often.

Rock n' Rage ? (Konami, 1986)

I'm trying to think of a PSN game on the PS3. It reminded me of a mix between Dark Souls and MediEvil, and it was called 'Game Title' 2 or 3, even though it wasn't a sequel.
I think it was getting a remake or something too.

Okay GAF, calling on your help for a good friend of mine who really wants to know this one...

He asked me:
did you ever play a psx game with tanks
like you were beamed into an arena
and it always said in a robot voice "entering arena"
everytime you did
I'm pretty sure it was ps1
and I vaguely remember playing as like a polygon-like tank

Anyone got this?

I'm playing Mafia 1 right now and i remembered a game in which part was similar to the mission where you collect payments at the time when you go to the outside of the city and there's a shootout.

What i rembember vaguely is that the mission was out of town, at night, in a field full of barns.
I don't remember if the game was in 3rd or 1st person, and if it was for PS2, PC. I doubt that last generation.
You'd start going to get some items or investigate something and suddenly there was an ambush. And at some point apparently produced a giant event of fire.

Anyone? Maybe is not just like that, my memory is very vague. 😔

The description is pretty vague so it's hard to figure out what it is unless you really remember that particular scene very well.

It would help out a lot if you could remember some technical specifics so we can at least determine the gameplay genre, the setting and maybe the point of view (first or third person).

So you mention you need to get some items and investigate something. I'm assuming that's just the mission objectives, but were there any gameplay mechanics involved in that, as in using some scanning tool or a special detective vision to find this item or to investigate the surroundings? Or was it just walking around, entering rooms? Were there any interiors at all?

You also mentioned a field full of barns, so I'm at least guessing the game wasn't sci-fi, no cool futuristic tech, shields, laser weapons? It was probably set in the present, or was it maybe some past point in history? Or maybe a fantasy setting (but I'm assuming not if there were firearms)?

Since there is an ambush occurring, was there any shooting involved, did you have a pistol, machine gun or something like that to shoot back?

It would help a lot if you could remember if it was 1st or 3rd person, were there any other gameplay mechanics involved, sneaking, talking to NPCs with or without dialogue choices, an inventory screen etc?

Blind shot but Godfather 1 or 2?

Ok. Kill me it was the same game. Mafia 1.
I'm playing it right now and arrived to that mission

This happen when you already played the game but in 2002, when it recently came out. Memory is fragile sometimes.
What a game btw, dated as fuck, but a gem.

Thanks guys anyway.

Megadrive game with top down perspective. I think the protagonist had a turbant an a scimitar?

The game played similarly to Legend of the Valkyrie and I think you started at a little port town.

How old is it ?

Mortville Manor starts in a blizzard and you explore a mansion, but maybe you were not thinking of a 1987 Atari ST game... ;)

Not it.
I'm guessing the game is 10 to 15 years old
Also I believe it was one of those Big Fish games.

Edit:
It's Mystery Case Files: Dire Grove. Found it while snooping around Big Fish Games site.
Just needed to talk it out, thanks guys, I can now sleep at night.

I cant think of the name for a really bad Playstation 1 game i bought because i liked the cover art and pictures on the back.

It was a fighting game in a medieval fantasy setting. With knights and wizards and skeletons. The arenas are limited with a magic circle or something.

Cardinal Syn??

I'll try to explain this the best I can. About 9-10 years ago I remember a friend of mine playing this PC game, it was a top down shooter where you control a single person, from what I remember it was online multiplayer only. I do remember him talking about paying for a subscription to get some sort of extras, but I believe it was free to play as well.

Other then that I just remember it was a dark, futuristic looking game.

There was a game for Genesis...it featured this skinny dude with shaggy hair over his eyes. And he threw a boomerang disk type weapon at enemies. It sorta had this surfer vibe.

I wanted this game so bad when I saw the previews, and I think I got to rent it one time and was ecstatic.

Greendog?

I asked this a while back, but no one was able to figure it out.
*It's a stealth/spy game
*the trailer poked fun at splinter cell, and metal gear
*enemy alerts used exclamation mark
* if I'm not mistake, I saw the trailer in cinematech

This game has been eluding me for years. :0

Spy Fiction? I remember enemies having alert marks.

There's this one game I've been trying to remember, but just can't. It's probably because I've only seen it as an ad on an EGM magazine back in the 16bit days. I think it was an arcade game and it looked like a Final Fight type beat-em up. One of the screenshots had you fighting enemies in sky and there were dragon like figures emerging from the clouds. One of the player characters also had what looked like a robin hood type hat.

Edit:
I just realized I asked this same question a few years back lol (http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?p=109837696#post109837696). I still haven't figured it out though

King of Dragons?

Well, shit. I was gonna post a game I played when I was really young (like) that I have searched up and down for on a few occasions since my childhood. And I decided to have one last look, and I found it pretty quickly. It's called Bakudanjin.

how in the hell was I not able to find this over like the past decade, I feel some immense satisfaction right now.

Sorry for irrelevant post.

Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara?

I played a RTS in the early 2000s, think it was a demo. There where two factions, quite similar in look, except one side was blue and the other was red. Memory might be off. The thing I remember most vividly is the buildings shaking when units entered them to destroy them.

Anyone remember this one?

Definitely sounds like Z. I think that was late 90s though. Here's a video of it:

Ivebeen looking for this game for almost 20yrs. I dont think it had a retail release but the game was simlar to Worms, except that there were planets and gravity played a significant role. I wasted quite a bit of time into it until I discovered Fallout...the original game.

Could be a game called Gravity Wars.

Another one i see mentioned as similar is called Scorched Earth, doesn't seem to involve planets, but mentions customisation that could involve it, but i don't really know.

Hey guys, what is this RPG for Genesis / Megadrive? It sure as heck isn't any Phantasy Star game I know, yet I can see why someone thought it was.
