The NX Prediction / BSpeculation / Fanxiety Thread

My Internet was out all morning, but I see very little has changed. At least the thread's official now for all you crazy kids.

Does anyone know off the top of their head how many announcements Nintendo has made on a Thursday or Friday? I know their sweet spot is usually Tuesday/Wednesday, but Tuesday's out.

I guess I could see that but then does that mean your expecting the NX to be unveiled with an unprecedented amount of (first party) software?

I'm not sure I'd be confident in that. Nintendo has always been quality over quantity. They rocked up this years E3 with only a handful of games and the emphasis was all on Zelda.

Actually yes I am. I'm thinking the first year, not necessarily the launch window, will have a very surprising amount of first-party games. I'm guessing there will be at least a dozen, if not 15 or more.

My hype level for new consoles is:

I guess I am going to buy this thing and not have any time to play video games on it.

All I have played in the last month is AA6 and Overwatch. In front of my TV, there are stacked cases for: Doom, Gears 4, Transformers, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Deus Ex MD, Ratchet & Clank, EDF, and more I am forgetting. I have barely touched any of them.

I wonder whens the next installment of the Fire Emblem series (excluding mobile).

This whole "Hybird" speculation confuses me, how would a Fire Emblem be? Console or Handheld style?

Secret shame time:

I've never played Twilight Princess.
I own it on Wii and Wii U.

You say this like you're an outlier. Nobody actually plays video games. The hype is it's own reward.

You should probably stop buying games you aren't going to play in the near future.

based on what? dreams?

Arriving at the conclusion first and working their way backwards, where every peep out of AMD is being used as evidence for their conclusion (whether it makes sense or not) and everything nvidia says is used as evidence that the EG rumors must be false. The logic leaps are amazing to watch, if you care to give them views on youtube.

Really guys, i don't expect nothing until next week Wednesday, i think then we'll know something, it's useless to hold your breath for something coming this week or in the next hours, deal with it.

but nah idk why people are still clinging onto the PS4-PS4 Pro power rumors that are obviously fake, shits sad mayne

Because these people are convinced that tiny things like audience demographics don't matter to publishers and that a 3.5TF Nintendo console would get RDR2 and every other AAA third-party game.

I don't understand why it's so difficult or painful for them to accept that they should just buy another console or a PC for those games. It's not like this is a new experience for Nintendo fans.

Accurate summary of their "logic."

Hmm, I'm not so sure but I do think Nintendo will be much better about having big games out at launch. I think it's been expressed a lot that Ocarina of Time 3D should have been a 3DS launch title.

Nintendo is not going to make the Wii U 2, and therefore the only logical conclusion is a $400 device that will be great at playing the games their demographic doesn't buy.

Am I the only one who is puzzled by all this hype for the NX announcement?

Where were all these people and all this hype for the Wii U? Damn thing is dead. Where were all these people to support it?

Nintendo is a lot more than the WiiU.

There are many people who will jump on a Nintendo product if it delivers - their handhelds always sold well, the NES Classic Mini will sell well because its a solid product for the right price.

Mario, Pokemon, Zelda and Co. are way bigger than one failed Nintendo system. So GAF being excited about it should be a surprise.

Ideally. But I always assume I will have time to play them.

It becomes an especially hard decision with multiplayer titles.

Ha. I can relate. The fun thing about being an adult with discretionary income is that you can afford to do things like buy video games at such a rate that kid-you would have been totally jealous of. The lame thing about being an adult is that you might find yourself having to settle for talking about video games more than playing them.

However, NX does represent a good opportunity to be a console released during a time when my son actually understands what's going on in the world of video games. I don't actually get a chance to play a lot of games that I want to play, but my just-turned-five-year-old is gaining competency every day in gaming as we work our way up through games like Disney Infinity and the LEGO games. NX I'm sure will be as good a system as any for me to play games with him, which accounts for about 95% of my gaming time right now.

To Alberto, Harker, and maybe even Nate Drake

I know you guys can't openly discuss the details of what you know but can you guys give some insight on how Nintendo has been able to keep this on lock-down to this degree?

It's something unprecedented for any major electronic/entertainment company. Like I don't think there has ever been a device in the modern era where this little is known about it

It's going to be a Nintendo handheld/console with Nintendo games that I will enjoy. It will supplement my PS4 and PC, and I will get one and play it whenever it releases. I would freak out about its unveiling and release date if I had no games to play or look forward to, but fortunately, that isn't the case. That's where my hype stands.

Except we practically know everything about it at this point from the rumors.

I fully expect not to be wowed at the reveal because we most likely will have heard about most of its features before.

Is Emily really gonna stake her reputation on another NX tip, this time regarding a solid timeframe for announcement?

It better be right this time T__T

Please don't play with my emotions!

The months and months of rumors and false leads... I just want it to end.

Dude for the Neo, Scorpio, iPhone, any major phone manufacturer, etc. we know everything

Like actually everything

concrete info about specs, release, what's going on, everything.

For the NX it is all still up in the air

This is what she is referencing https://arcadegirl64.wordpress.com/2016/09/02/rumor-what-should-we-expect-from-the-final-nx-product/

This is quite interesting. If it's true that dev hardware is still actively cooled then it means one of three things:

  • Some or all third party devs don't have final hardware and are still working on TX1-based dev kits. (I'd consider this by far the most likely scenario)
  • The system itself is actively cooled in all scenarios. This isn't impossible (as others have noted there are many actively cooled laptops and tablets which are much thinner than the 3DS or Vita), however it would seem very unusual for Nintendo, given the added moving part is a potential point of failure, and the increased power consumption would mean a much larger battery would be required.
  • The system is only actively cooled when docked, clocking up to allow the system to output at an increased resolution. This eliminates the battery life issue, but we haven't heard anything which would indicate that there's a difference of this kind between "portable mode" and "docked mode", which makes it seem pretty unlikely.
Although I'd still put my money on devs not having final hardware (which wouldn't be that unusual 5 months from launch), it would be very interesting if Nintendo actually went the actively cooled route with NX. You'd be looking at clock speeds over 1GHz and comfortably over 1TF of FP16 performance, perhaps even 2TF or more.

We know quite a lot about the hardware I would say. The thing we know nothing about are the games (aside from Zelda and some WiiU ports/remasters)

I mean, have they?

There's a lot of bullshit out there, but for the most part, we know a relatively large amount about the NX. Assuming, of course, that even half of it is true. If the rumors sit on a zero scale of being neither verifiably true or provably false, then really the only evidence against them is a lack of public verification.

So we'll see soon if the NX has been a console on lockdown or a leaky-ass ship.

I'm excited for the reveal, not so much all the whining about the inevitably lesser hardware specs. What's funny is that some people will act surprised about it and complain anyway.

I mean, I hope it gets the job done but I doubt it's going to be above Xbox One.
