The NX Prediction / BSpeculation / Fanxiety Thread

It has been rumored there might be a subscription service for VC instead of selling the games piece-meal.

I'd be interested. Also sounds like something investors would get behind. I suppose Nintendo is in a unique position to do this considering they control both the hardware and a ton of compelling content - it would be a difficult sell for most every other game publisher except for maybe Sony, and they've already gone down the road of piecemeal pricing for streaming.

That's more like collective wishful thinking (the one I don't share, BTW) rather than the somewhat well-grounded rumour.

But considering that NES mini emulation software, Nintendo DS emulator for Wii U, and downloadable Wii games were all made by NERD and of a high quality, I could see them being the main Nintendo division responsible for all things VC.

Alright I'll join in too. I really believe Nintendo is going to surprise-drop NX and Zelda sometime in early November and run out of stock, thus building a ton of hype, only to fully replenish stock in time for Christmas.

There you have it.

This is what I choose to believe.

Home console first.

Let me quote this again:

Yes. Folks have been "reporting" on Youtube and Twitter that NX will be between PS4 and PS4 Pro in terms of raw power. A 4TF home console that will allow for 1080p/60fps gaming heaven.

based on what? dreams?

Edit: finally some more anticipated news from Nintendo UK.

How does the presence of the press and investor briefings work vs. the absence of the strategy briefing? Couldn't they offer the same kind of information in a press/investor briefing as they would have in a strategy briefing? I'm ignorant on these issues. Thank you.

The way I understand it, a typical end of quarter investor briefing/press conference consists essentially of telling investors and the press about the results of that quarter, as well as some future predictions.

A strategy briefing is where Nintendo execs detail their specific plans about the future, including products, messaging, specific forecasts for the next year and beyond.

The way I see it, there are two ways to view the lack of a strategy briefing:

Optimistic way: If there is a full NX reveal event coming next week then a large portion of what would normally be in a strategy briefing might be presented there.

Pessimistic way: On the other hand, it's also possible that Nintendo still just plain isn't ready to talk about the NX, and if the NX represents the majority of their future strategy then they can't really hold a strategy briefing.

Right now I'm leaning towards the optimistic way because it lines up with what a bunch of insiders are saying, who I happen to put some stock into.

I have no idea if this is true or not, but in my opinion this would be a mistake.

Home console first means:

more expensive
more powerful
but less practical when mobile (battery life, for example)
and, again, too expensive to be thought of as mobile

I'd say mobile is the life raft, home console are the quickly sinking ship.

I truly don't believe we'll hear anything until after the investors meeting next week. I may not be 100% correct, but I'm sure in the past we've had Directs that have come very closely after previous meetings, not before.

don't worry it's not true

Revealing the system without a compelling argument for the hardware and a software lineup to match would be hugely more damaging to the long-term success of the console than waiting a bit until they have those arguments in place. I can understand people getting frustrated, but Nintendo have got to nail this, and they won't do that by rushing it.

This is what I choose to believe.

Well, at least you're honest that it isn't based in anything other than your own hopes or wishes.

Is this an actual rumor or is it also hopes and dreams? I remember people have been asking for that since the Project Cafe days, but I don't recall ever seeing that presented as a rumor.

I can't think any other way of play my SMT games without a dual-screen. Please do this Nintendo.
Namco was making Smash for Nintendo Wii U and someone there said" You know, we made this thing called Wonder Swan. You should make a device like that too" And so the NX was born.

Because we all know Nintendo wants us to spend more than $400 on a console that's two years late on Xbox One and PS4, the later getting her PS4 Pro update in a few days for the same price. Oh and don't forget the Scorpio.

Come on guys, Nintendo WON'T do this mistake. It's Dead At Arrival, 100%.

Well, the "Wii U isn't selling, better announce 75% of the projects we have in development for it" Direct in January 2013 was definitely a few days before the Q3 results. But again, best to wait for the 26th.

Wasnt the original line from Iwata that the NX would be a family of systems running on the same OS and architecture?

Meaning both a handheld and a console are not out of the question.

That's what we all initially thought. These initial rumors or at least first working prototype doesn't confirm that bigger picture. I'm hoping it is still the case though.

1 platform, 1 software line, you pick home or hand held machine or both.

Really Nintendo?

Really?

Your really doing this?

All I ask is a simple reveal of a huge investment of $200-$300 system to be shown a bit more than FIVE FUCKING MONTHS BEFORE ITS RELEASED.

I need to plan my fucking spending schedule, but no, you can't even give me that. You have to be so fucking mean to me about me wanting to know what I'll be spending five months ahead of time.

I mean, what went wrong? I have supported you all my life. I have loved and cherished you, and when I like to plan exactly what I'm buying a year ahead, you can't even do that FIVE FUCKNG MONTHS AHEAD? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS??

Well this is it. All games I was gonna get paid off. Now I save. Save and sacrifice so many games I'll miss for a imaginary system that supposedly exists, yet theres no evidence of it existing. I will still believe in you even if it costs me Persona 5.

So now Nintendo, faith has evolved to full blind faith. So show it...please?

Love you, WiiRevolution1.

*Goes back to playing Splatoon.*

Assuming this isn't a joke post.... if $300 is such a big investment that you need almost half a year to plan for it you should be focusing your money towards things other than video games, assuming you live on your own and what not.

It's missing an important part. The timeline. It was never said to be at launch or in the first years.

Ps4 and PS4 Pro are a family of systems after all.

That could happen for NX too, eventually.

I'm going with the optimistic view, as well.

EDIT: Well, actually, apparently that means there won't be a Q&A with the investors? Oh. Hopefully that means that the NX conference/direct is post the meeting that's still happening.

That seemed like their best avenue for the longest time before the EG leak. People believed it would be a powerful console first and a less powerful handheld soon after (or potentially at the same time) where the majority of the library is shared.

But honestly, a hybrid makes more sense (to me) for two reasons. One, you get the entire library on one device- there's no handheld exclusive or console exclusive games. Two, the marketing and messaging are both simplified enormously.

There's still of course the possibility of other devices coming later, but I think the bulk of Nintendo's problems (software shortages) get solved with this first NX device coming in March.

Now I understand why mods closed all those NX threads. They had the foresight of the implosions that were about to occur.

please don't lock this thread though... Actually please do and create a new one so we can start fresh

All he said is that multiple form factors are possible going forward, if there is a market demand for them. So if nx hybrid does well and nintendo thinks they can expand into tablet/phone/console/NX-XL, etc, they can make more form factors to enter those markets. Console is not ruled out but it's not guaranteed either.

Yep. If you want accurate, inside track information on the NX, you can't get any better or closer to being on the inside than a dude in Canada who makes cabinets for a living.
NX is an arcade machine and I'm building the cabinet for it. Surprise.

You can believe anything you want to believe, how ever obviously wrong it will be. Nintendo isn't going to compete with raw specs again. Ever. Get over that idea.

The nx will be a console and you can use you're mobile phone to play the game on the go. The controller is a plastic thing that you can put your mobile in,and connect it with Bluetooth. It works like the vita/ps4 connection, but with good controls :)

It only works with WiFi and you're phone is the display, so even old phones work with it.

Probably down the line they make their own screen with even better controls I think.

When you're at home you have controller and the console itself. (again just like ps4 vita connection but this time it works better because you'll have all the buttons)

The Nintendo app is only downloable for Apple and Android users, not Windows users for some reason.

Not a bad idea, but I the plastic controller/phone shell would have to be pretty bulky and inelegant to accommodate a wide variety of current and future phones.
