Behold Nintendo Switch (March 2017, Hybrid w/ Dock, Detachable Controllers, Nvidia)

The hardware concept has exceeded my expectations. I am beyond thrilled that they have essentially gone with a traditional controller in terms of overall form and function. I believe they will really maximize their software pipeline now. I'm tentatively in the "buy" column now. I'm longtime classic Nintendo collector but I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the Gamecube (and DS).

I'm curious if this means Nintendo will converge on the portable and home console going forward. Has there been any talk of that yet?

Will the DS line get absorbed/rebranded into the switch?

+ hybrid
+ gorgeous new Mario
+ Multiple controller options

- a bunch of fucking ports
- the marketing aesthetic

= sold, but not excited about potential launch lineup

As a lifetime Nintendo fan (im 34) this is exactly what I need from them. The way I consume Nintendo games is on the go these days and this is the best of both worlds. Brilliant of them.

Also allowing their developers to only have to work on one system and have it cover the mobile segment and home console is great for them.

So EXCITED!

Switching between console/portable seems slick as fuck. Much better direction than the Wii U.

Odd looking default controller. Overall design is weird, but an intriguing weird. Good stuff, Nintendo.

It looks like there are bumper buttons on the inside of the controller as well (inside when you dock them). I'm guessing it registers when you slide the controllers onto the main unit, that the outside bumpers start working, and then when you slide the controllers out of the main unit, the outside bumper stops working in favor of the inside bumper buttons.

To confirm, at 1:43 in the trailer (when they're driving to the kart track), you can see someone tapping an inside bumper.

MIght be that the units weren't functional and they also didn't want to show actual games to the actors and people on the set.

Yeah those sizzle reel clips never use real footage. I would bet for legal purposes that it is indeed showing Skyrim running on Switch, but there's no way they're letting the actors actually play with the games.

Yo, not bad, not bad at all....this thing will never leave my house, thank god for the pro-controller option - any word on how many pro--controllers I can hookup per console?

OK, so some concerns:

-Pro Controller will be sold separately, will the Joy Con grip? Presumably not.

-So out of the box we get: Screen, detachable joy con controllers, joy con grip (to transform into a traditional controller)

The split controllers dont look useful as you have a pad, face buttons squished in, and presumably at least a shoulder button. That's fine though, using them together looks neat and friends can buy their own controllers.

How many buttons does the thing have for one person? What about shoulder buttons?

Nope, that console(?) is nothing for me.
Which is sad, because I love Zelda, Smash Bros and Xenoblade yet not one console after the Gamecube did appeal to me. I bought a Wii, disliked it's Wii Remote very much and I only played on the Classic Controller. I didn't buy a WiiU und I won't buy a Switch.
I wished Nintendo would stop trying to be innovative and special. I just want to play Zelda on my TV, with a normal controller and up to date graphics. I hope I'm not tarred and feathered for this post, sorry. >__<

Both the pro & default controllers look pretty normal, & the Pro Controller is aping the Xbox One's pad. What more do you want?

This is like the best part of the wii u, and it's the focus

I might purchase this day 1, ive never gotten a console day 1 but if it's BC and has BotW and sm4sh...

Do you think they will sell a mount for the screen like in the Mario Kart footage? The screen was mounted on the back of a car seat.

That could be quite a nice thing to include.

Did anyone else find it weird there weren't any kids in the video?

VV I can't imagine that the Pro won't be backward compatible. It's all just bluetooth isn't it?

I despise the misaligned left and right analog sticks. Why the hell would they do this to their Pro Controller when they executed it perfectly last-gen?

I'm not interested in playing mobile games anymore, but the idea of taking a system like that to hotels on trips is very cool. Hopefully the system is powerful enough to run new games well. Looks pretty neat.

The only thing I'm worried/disapointed is that you don't seem to be able to play on the TV with the screen in your hands, aka, no more dual screen gaming. Makes Splatoon less interesting for example.

Why are Nintendo faking the actual gameplay? Just look at the reflection on the TV-screen from the windows on the left and how the reflection magically disappear during gameplay.

It's a commercial, so like I said people should wait to see how the actual games look and play. Remember how the Xbox One Snap looked in commercials? It worked nothing like that.

The trailer shows off that that's for doing two player stuff like Mario Kart or NBA, it'll be fine for that. If you're playing something like Skyrim on the go you put them together into the full controller with both sticks

It'll be extremely limited in terms of games that work with it though. It's just a stick and four face buttons.

By the way i must be absolutly crazy but what the fuck are you guys seeing that i don't see in that mario footage.. There is nothing more pretty in this than in mario 3d world. I would even say it's less good looking. Is it just cause the cam is behind that it looks better to you ?

I mean look at it closely, same smoke effect, same model probably, nothing in the background seems complex.. The light is certainly not better...

What are you smoking...

I'm pretty sure I'm not the target demographic for this because this doesn't look appealing to me at all.

Agreed. Kids have their phones/tablets and it seems as if Nintendo are doubling down on their established, older audience.

Instead of chasing the mass appeal of the Wii they are, again, catering for the hardcore Nintendo audience. The same forty year olds that queue up to buy AmiiBos.

Eh. If it works for them.

This is also really great for folks that are divorced/have divorced parents.

That's a hell of a demographic for a Nintendo to hang their coat on!

...But there's a normal controller for the NS (That looks like the WUPC) and you can play Zelda on your TV...

About the graphics... Well I don't know... I like the visuals the WiiU can output, but that is my opinion

So excited for this. Pretty much addressing my problems with the Wii U by the looks of it. Though, I want to feel the controller in my hands. But Nintendo haven't disappointed me yet with a controller so... I'll more than likely be a very early adopter depending on the software output the first year.

It's nothing new when trying to film a TV screen. Flickering, jittery framerate and all that jazz appears on actual TV when filmed live.

Now let's see if they removed gimmicks like tilt controls and touch screens.

If they did, and they deliver on some good games (not just Nintendo IPs) with good battery life and a reasonable price, I could seriously consider this. This already was much better than what I was expecting from Nintendo's console reveal.

Finally the NX is revealed and as the Nintendo Switch! Not crazy about the name but liking what I'm seeing a LOT. I was never agaisnt a hybrid system and I'm glad that is what it is from the first look. I can't wait to preorder the system. I want this thing in my hands ASAP.

Being able to play Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the go and at home is going to be great. Additionally so will Skyrim. I never expected they'd get me to rebuy that game. I'm already getting the Special Edition upgrade on PC for free but being able to play it portably when I want will be worth the rebuy so that's one copy of NIntendo Switch version of Skyrim already sold. New Mario! Possibly new or remade Splatoon and Mario Kart!!! Being able to have four player split screen multiplayer with two systems on the go is pretty impressive. However the idea of the latest NBA 2K is a plus and I'll likely pick it up.

Looking forward to seeing what the other possible launch or launch windows will. I hope we don't have to wait to long for that full blow out of information.

More functionality than I was anticipating so that's impressive. Granted, I'll never utilize the multiplayer features. Honestly, it's exactly what I've wanted from a Nintendo console ever since the Wii U launched. Terrible name, though. The logo, and name just seem so... cheap. At least it conveys what the system is all about. I'll pre-order one as soon as possible. I want it. Now.

- The specs will prob be very weak compare to the PS4 Pro. It might even be weaker than the OG PS4 due to the size of the console. This is a big minus if its true.

If you are playing Switch out in public, would it be more or less powerful than an unpowered OG PS4?

I have not been interested in anything Nintendo for a while but this has sparked my interest. I really hope they update their online and include modern stuff we get with the other consoles. But hardware wise it looks cool.

What do we do with that bizarre plastic middle controller chunk when it's not being used? Does it just sit awkwardly on the coffee table, like black plastic table art?

Will definetly be buying this! Ill wait and see what games are coming at launch before buying day one, but still want one for Zelda.

Those removable controllers though look like they are made for toddlers lol. Theres no way using those as an adult can be fun. I probably wouldnt be using them alot anyway, but still they need another option for portable multiplayer controlls.

Really hope this brings back Nintendo into the game. If they can get 3rd parties back on board this thing will be gold.
