No. Dont think of it as a home console, its a portable system that you can play on your tv.
Uhm, no. If anything, it's a home console that you can play portable on the go.
No change. It'll have the software library of the portable and home Nintendo console though. Which is the whole point right? Other wise we'd be counting pixels on pcIs this going to be more powerful than PS4 which has been on the market for 3 years?
The Tegra they're most likely using is substantially more powerful than the Wii U.As long as it's at least as powerful as the Wii U I think it will be fine for their games.
I just hope they manage to actually support this one.
And play with your wife, kids etc. It's squeezing in a dwindling lab let market tooi'm confused...lol
The official Nintendo statement is that it is a home console that you can play on the go.

No hidden GPU in the dock station??
The thing is that you can't use the tablet and play on the TV at the same time. So if they port Mario Maker you'd inky be able to design stages with touch on the tablet. They'll have to rework it a bit since there's no two screen play as wellI personally would be crushed if there were no touch screen because that would mean no Mario Maker. I can truly see myself playing Mario Maker 5 or even 10 years from now. It is a timeless game with unlimited replay value and it would really suck big time to have to keep my Wii U for 10 years to play it. Not to mention the online community for it will die on Wii U soon too.
What do you guys think about Mario Maker coming to Switch? Has to have a touchscreen for that right?
Also, with Nintendo just starting to get into mobile phone games, how could they possibly omit a touchscreen?
This thing is going to be under $200. I can feel it.
Marketing.
When a "core" gamer thinks of a "home console that you can play on the go," they think it's a PS4/X1 power-level console that you can take anywhere. When Nintendo says it's a "home console that you can play on the go," they mean that it's a portable gaming device that you can play all your favorite games on.
They mean that you'll have Breath of the Wild on the same device that you would play a portable game and you can take it anywhere and plug it into a TV. It's the ultimate realization of the Wii U: instead of occasionally playing a game on the tablet, you're not tied down to the console and can take Nintendo with you to work, school, on your commute, or to a friend's.
But probably not as powerful as an Xbox One or PS4; we knew the CPU wasn't and now we can be reasonably sure the GPU isn't.
No.
People saying $200 are in Crazytown. Shield Tablet K1 costs that much with no controller or dock.
LOL its way lass powerful then the Xbox 1.
The average tv in a retail store larger than a 50 inch now is a 4k. Its a toss up 50/50 for anything between 40 and 50 inch nowadays. The average tv sold in electronic stores the last 2 years have been 4ks.lol no
So Nintendo's newest console, which is also newest portable, is a tablet.
I wonder what tablets it compares to out on the market today.
Is this going to be more powerful than PS4 which has been on the market for 3 years?
Isnt the rumored dev kit also being over clocked cause it was being actively cooled while this probably won't beHuh?
PS4 / 2013 - 1.84 TFlops (1840 GFlops)
Xbox One / 2013 - 1.31 TFLops (1310 GFlops_
Nvidia Tegra X1 (used in Nvidia shield TV console) 512 GFlops
Switch - custom Tegra chip. Devkits are using Tegra X1 - so we know what ballpark Switch is as far as graphics performance.
Nintendo's new system is much less powerful than either PS4 or Xbox One.
I don't know if it's just marketing, i'm not putting processing power in perspective here, but just the games, all the games they showed until now seems to play like a "regular" home console game and there's no confirmation of a touch screen. I honestly believe that Nintendo still have the intention of keeping the 3DS alive and coexisting with the Switch for a few more years.
Huh?
PS4 / 2013 - 1.84 TFlops (1840 GFlops)
Xbox One / 2013 - 1.31 TFLops ( 1310 GFlops)
Nvidia Tegra X1 (used in Nvidia Shield TV console) 0.5 TF (512 GFlops)
Switch - custom Tegra chip. Development kits are using Tegra X1
So we know what ballpark Switch is as far as graphics performance, even without knowing the exact specs.

Not really sure why people are trying to delude themselves that this is a home console. It's effectively the 3DS Mark 2 with a fancy dock for video out.
If it's using the chips it is rumoured to be then it will have less than 1/3rd the power of a PS4.
Nintendo is beginning a handheld only generation, they are leaving the home console business this gen and patching over the transition with marketing and PR.
It may be wise on their part but it is what it is, please don't try to pretend otherwise just because you can't handle the reality of it.
Well that is unfortunate. If it can at least put out a native 1080p res i might still be interested.
Not sure why people are having a hard time understanding all of this
Docked:
CPU/GPU are at max performance
Charges system
HDMI out in the back of the dock
USB ports on side 4 total. Two left. Two right.
Wifi only *except Ethernet via USB
Undocked
CPU/GPU down clocked
Battery powered
No video out
No USB
Wifi only
Touch screen for Nintendo mobile games.

I just hope I can charge the device with a cable while using it in handheld mode. (In bed)
The fact that there's DeNA support and that they hinted at being able to run mobile titles a while back makes it obvious to me that there will be touch screen capabilities.
So no extra juice like many speculated.
It seems like NSw will be above Xbox One docked and below it when not. The CPU in the Xbox One is a horrible mess and Nvidia probably made this thing extremely easy to use for developers because Nvidia is pretty much buddy-buddy with them already.
It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo asked Nvidia to court western developers because Nvidia already has strong relationships with then on PC.
What major games do they have coming out for it besides Pokemon? They hedged their bets in a similar manner when the DS came out.
