I want this right fucking now. You know Nintendo has been working on some badass secret games for the last two years with this Wii U drought. They're going ALL IN.
See that graveyard over there? You can play Dark Souls in it.
Nah, the Wii U was also trying to push its "asymmetrical gameplay" thing, which....the sales showed that no one cared about. Switch's message seems much more clear and like something that there may be a market for.
I'm confused when people say this is like the Wii U but better. I guess it's a greater realization of off-TV play, but otherwise, there's no dual screen gameplay. It's either a traditional single-screen home console experience, or a single-screen handheld experience.

*Neiteio turns to a statue of Jesus*
N: "Hey Jesus, I thought you'd protect m"
*The statue of Jesus is distracted playing its own Switch*
N: "Hey!"
*The statue of Jesus is doing the Reggie shrug*
since we were talking about this earlier, in this picture it really does look like the visible screen will color-match the game or something.

Might just be a video thing, but yeah.
Big reveal event in January/before release maybe, not just a direct?
I hope they port some WiiU games like Pikmin and Mario 3D Land onto this thing.
cause nintendo would never delay (make weird decisions) ever!...
It's funny: Enhanced ports may seem uninspired, but when you're talking about Mario Kart 8 (the BEST) and Splatoon and possibly Smash, it suddenly makes this the most appetizing must-have system in pretty much ever.
I'm eager to bring Mario Kart into the office, deploy the adorable lil' kickstand, detach those joy-cons for 2P, and proceed to blue shell my coworkers... TWICE.
Mario Kart 8 is so good that I seriously wouldn't mind them just building on that foundation forever (or at least for a generation or two). This way we don't lose any of our favorite tracks, characters, etc. We just get MORE of them. So yes, by all means, treat MK8 as a platform!Enhanced ports make a ton of sense too when you consider how terrible Wii U sales are.

I totally agree, just making a comment about perhaps Wii U's biggest attempt at something unique and why it failed, but it satisfied a "problem" that no one actually had. I think of Switch as kind of an amalgam of Nintendo's recent consoles, taking some of the best ideas of each with improvements - the separated controllers from Wii without the unorthodox button layout, the portability of Wii U without being tethered to the console, etc.I think the Wii U comparisons are made because in the end for many owners the gamepad was nothing more than off-tv play i.e what the Switch would be if you're not playing on a tv.
When it was used well it was really good, but even some first party games offered minimal usage, look at Tropical Freeze, even Mario Kart 8 offered nothing worthwhile.
Oh, definitely. Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros = platforms they should keep expanding, rather than resetting with sequels. Just take MK8 and SSB for WiiU/3DS and keep adding to them on Switch. That's what I want.I think smash should be treated in a similar way.

I really wish Tropical Freeze got the port treatment. It's another amazing game that needs to be rescued from the Wii U abyss.
It's funny to me how it did literally NOTHING with the gamepad lol. Literally nothing.

Random side-note: thank you for this stillshot.
I'm comparing the console+dock's height to the nearby amiibos' heights, trying to determine if I can fit the Switch in a certain space on my entertainment center. Looks promising.

I'd buy it for Returns at 60 fps (like the Wii version) and with the extra content and button to roll (like the 3DS version). And remastered in HD now since it's on Switch.Donkey Kong Country Collection for Nintendo Switch

I'd assume so, especially since they have a lot of other things to reveal about it besides games. UI, how the OS works, how online works, if apps like Netflix and Youtube will be on it, etc. So it'd make sense to have an event similar to a PS4 or Xbox One reveal that we saw at the beginning of 2013, and there would be plenty of time for partners to announce games in such an event.
Instead of porting Pikmin 3 they'll probably just release Pikmin 4
If it was going to be delayed they would've just said 2017 instead of reiterating March 2017 again. A delay at this point doesn't seem possible.

The "It's Fucking Donkey Kong Collection"
Do you honestly think they will screw over physical disc owners with some sort of digital only BC? I know I'll be pissed since all my Wii U games are discs.
Something else that would be cool:
Bringing your Switch to a friend, plugging it into his dock and playing your games together.
I think once gamers see that PS4 Pro and Scorpio play all the same games as their current systems with a barely noticeable difference - many of the people who were going to upgrade to those consoles might now keep the current ones and buy a switch instead.
I know thats the situation I am in now as a PS4 owner.
I think my biggest frustration is that there is a HUGE misunderstanding about something here. Back when Iwata made the comments about unified os, android etc.. everyone (not right away but soon enough) embraced the idea of one only Nintendo console. And now, they have that .. hybrid home/portable console, so everyone think, this is what we get. And as such it can be awesome.
Except.. we have ABSOLUTELY NEVER heard anything from Nintendo about that. Everyone is thinking right now, on gaf, Hey Switch is awesome i'll play monster hunter and pokemon on it" but none of what Nintendo said goes in that direction. If anything, them insisting on the console being a home console means they don't want to cross the streams at all.
That's what i'm saying by being confused about its identity. Cause that's two entirely different things here. A console that will legitimately have the kind of generosity Nintendo portables have, in term of games, or a WiiU repeat with selected games, and Nintendo still having to output games for an other system, and we all know how that ends.
...
Nobody talk about anything. Nobody talks about the obvious irrefutable fact that if the screen is a touch screen, you won't be able to play.. say, phoenix wright, if such a game is on the switch, on your tv, cause there is no physical way to play a touch screen game with the dock on. This kind of thing..
The more i talk and the more i think we could have two different product based on the Switch. With a more portable friendly, dockless version for japan (also available here hopefully).
But to summarize my tough and my confusion, not knowing if the Switch will have a portable library, nor if it'll be, for example, available without the dock, makes it something completely unpredictable and unidentifiable for me. Those are HUGE matters. They change everything
That mock up for the Switch version of BotW looks cool though, recreated it.
Hamster on the support list makes me hope Nintendo lets them revive Virtual Console Arcade.
I wouldn't be surprised if they used DVD or blu ray sized cases rather than 3ds sized cases, since they're really pushing "it's a home console!" In their marketing so hard.
I wonder what the cost differences would be for Nintendo between DVD/Blu-Ray, 3DS or Vita sized cases for Switch games?
This is going to sell well.
Nintendo has learned from their mistakes.
This thread keeps cracking me up.
If Dark Souls releases on the Switch.....
I don't think I'll be able to go outside anymore.....
Well, Persona 5 is on both PS3 and PS4, two consoles with vastly different architecture.
If Atlus sees a market for P5 on Switch, it'll come.
Did you laugh at Persona 4 on Vita too? This thread keeps cracking me up.
WHIch is great.
Dual screen was a bad idea from the start.
Nintendo has said repeatedly since the NS was revealed that they're not leaving the handheld business. I think it's safe to say a 3DS successor is coming in the future. My guess is that it will play all of the NS library as well. Makes sense, too as Reggie has stated that the NX was a platform.
I seen Dolphin emulator running on NVIDIA Shield TV. Some games run quite good and everything is in 1080p for Wii games.
If the NS is more powerful than Shield and we have Nintendo themselves make a emulator. I would be happy seeing Wii and Gamecube games in 720p. If Nintendo do this it would make NS a must buy.
Nah dude, the Joycons must be wireless. There's that bit in the reveal where the dude plays Skyrim on the plane, but he splits the joy cons off the Switch and holds them in both of his hands, like a Wiimote+Nunchuck thing.

They should have announced it with the console then.

Do the Joy Con pads use analog sliders or small analog sticks?
