I have a XBR43x800D. I know it does HDR. But how low quality is it?

It is 10 bit HDR but the brightness does not go above 400 nits which means it is middle end and not HDR10 or Dolby Vision level. It is still miles better than the HDR found in LG and Samsung lower end models and many miles ahead of no HDR at all.

I have downloaded some HDR footage on a computer plus I have been watching HDR netflix with same television. Looks great. Obviously it does not match the HDR of the KS8000 by Samsung in terms of brightness to get all the details, but you spent far far less. In a darker room, you would see pretty solid HDR quality as well. Be happy with the purchase. The other features like Android 6.0 tv and playstation now make it more user friendly than Samsung tizen based televisions.

Might not be the best place to ask. But, i am thinking of a sound bar to pair with my TV, since the sound tends not to be the best possible out of the device. Any recommendations?

Sticking with the KS8000! Picking it up next week before the costco sale is over.

I need to take down my old huge sony LCD (giving it to my dad), mount my LG LED where the Sony used to be, and the Samsung is going in the basement.

I dont see the KS8000 on their website. At least not in a 65? Am I missing something?

Typically, manufacturers put lower end models on heavy sales for Black Friday rather than relatively higher end models like the KS8000. I doubt it'll go on sale but regardless, I'm still waiting just in case.

Do you think the 65B6 oled might go on sale?
I could get it for 4000 € right now, which is quite good already, but less is always better.

Some HDR is better than no HDR. But you're essentially getting a set that does not have a wide color gamut and is okay for HDR brightness. You have to remember there is always something better 'next year', often times there is always something better this year. It is whether you are willing to spend more to get a better set. Low input lag and 4K with decent HDR will still give you a massive increase in visual fidelity when you game.

Yea it's all very annoying and confusing I don't want to spend to much on a TV that is just going in my bedroom. Just thought if I buy something like the ku6400 for now then get a better one next year when hopefully more tvs support hdr better at a cost around the 6400. Having been to eurogamer and seen there review about the 6400 and it not giving a very good upscale 1080p picture, well it just doesn't help me make up my mind. Would of never thought looking for a TV would be so hard :/

After reading about 4K and HDR pass through and now I'm concerned. I was thinking about getting a KS8000 for my pro but I have a HDMI switcher that my PS4 goes into which then plugs into my sony subwoofer/sound bar. Is this going to be a problem for 4K and HDR?

If any of your devices don't support this then you can't get 4K display. At least on playback of movies. Its really interesting.

Im looking to get a 70 inch 4k TV, under $2000.

I am looking at Samsung UN70KU6300 or Vizio M70-D3. The vizio is about $200 cheaper. Any suggestions on either of these, or a different model alltogether that fits my criteria?

I'm kind of looking for the same, but want something that actually does HDR decently. The reason I want a large screen is because I currently run an Optoma GT1080 projector, so my screen is 116", so I'm totally spoiled when it comes to size. I'm willing to trade size for image quality, and 4k projectors are so incredibly high priced right now and very likely will not come down in price for awhile for a number of reasons.

The whole UHD BR drive missing irks me to no end... i really want to take advantage of my TV at 4k and it seems the only solution is to get an Xbone S. Tried to buy one yesterday, but backed off... just couldn't do it.

Also... its just important to know the whole ordeal of HDMI cables, and i informed myself on the HDCP 2.2 lock for 4k. I am on the lookout for a soundbar, and now i have to make sure my device has this compliance or else i can't enjoy 4k. pretty nuts.

I did. Blacks are much better on the KS8000. The blacks on my 50VT25 have risen drastically over the years. Input lag on the KS800 about the same as the VT25 as IIRC it was between 20-30ms.

It doesn't really actually do HDR or DV, it just accepts the signal.
1. It doesn't have a wide color gamut
2. It's peak brightness is less than 500 nits.
3. It only has an 8 bit panel.

Sure no its terrible. The 6300 doesn't have WCG, its screen uniformaty is poor with lots of gray glob going on. It also has very noticeable judder that you can't really get rid of.

The KU6300 also doesn't have a Wide Color Gamut which is a pretty big deal if you care about HDR. It really shouldn't be marketed as an HDR capable TV.

Both the peak brightness and wide color gamut stem from the KS8000's use of quantum dot technology. This produces remarkably pure red, blue, and green primary colors in a very efficient manner that is also capable of keeping blacks under control despite the peak brightness.

Neither set has spectacular gray uniformity due to the edge lighting strategy, so expect some clouding on either, but the KS8000 definitely rates better here. Off-axis viewing is comparable in both.

I agree with the general sentiment that the KU6300 really shouldn't be marketed as an HDR set. It doesn't meet UHD Premium requirements, which the KS8000 definitely does. That's why Samsung uses the SUHD designation for the higher-end set.

It does not have the wide color gamut but it does have a higher brightness than a 4k without HDR. HDR content on this TV still looks better than a 4k TV without.


I think it looks fantastic and would take it in a heartbeat over any other non HDR 4k TV. If you don't want to fork out the money for the more expensive ones this is a good choice. Its a VA panel also, the blacks are a close to inky and the contrast is great. Low input lag makes it great for gaming also. I am extremely pleased with this set.

As long as you don't mind none of the apps being native to the TV and having to "cast" them from the included tablet, and as long as you don't need a TV tuner or are willing to buy a separate one to get OTA channels, it's a good TV with very good image quality for the price.

Man even when you do get the ones properly set up for high GB badnwidth be aware they may not work.
2 weekends ago we tested 20 sets of cables from various manufacturers and 15 passed, 5 didn't, then by the end of the first day on a standard wear test another 4 failed. What it seems is that HDR + 4k and the bandwidth needed the normally finicky as fuck HDMI cable needs to be treated very well. So the answer is YES and also...it may not work the first time.

And failed 3 stress tests. But can't complain so did some of the better brands. Right now HDMI for 4K and HDR just seem ultra finicky for carrying signal. Or some of the finicky ones have reinforced protection which, if even slightly bent or twisted to say get into the back of a receiver, are so stiff they break the actual head of the HDMI clap OFF. Its insane.

And then some are just rebranded 1080p cables but they usually either don't carry the signal from the very start or fail on the first couple hDMI handshakes.

The best thing is get them, test them, if they go bad in...well whatever amazon return time is you can send them back. More expensive these days doesn't mean much. A lot is luck of the draw

Sony just released an update to fix latency issues when gaming in 4KHDR it seema they allow you to make a change in HDR mode now where you can turn off motionflow while gaming.

Im assuming this will bring the latency down to the same level as the regular game mode. I have no way to test but im sure that probably waa the cause of the high numbers tested by rtings and others.

Nice. Guessing that was the update that also just came up for my X850C. Not that I have any way to directly measure it, but I've been hoping we'd get an update for this with the Pro coming.
