Huh. You know I just noticed something about the official posters. StarCraft 2 shows the "2", but the Diablo poster doesn't show the 3. Just says Diablo.

Maybe something, maybe nothing..

unless blizzard hired kojima, I wouldn't read tooooo much into that.

I've never played a Diablo game. Should I start from the beginning or wait til 4?

The original has aged much worse than then 2, but if youre curious, and have access to it, then its worth checking out. D2 is a contender for my favorite game of all time, and while it's definitely a bit dated in some areas, it still holds up very well over all. I still play it today.

It's worth saying that, in reality, all 3 games feel pretty different from each other.

D1 is a much slower, methodical paced game with more claustrophobic feeling levels and a smaller amount of mobs to fight at once. Classes are much less defined than in the later games, and are mostly made different by stat point as opposed to spells/skills.

D2 is a much faster paced game overall, but doesn't quite have the same level of creepy atmosphere as the originals slower, dark levels did. Skill tree's replaced D1's spell tomes, which did a great job of giving each class their own feel and flavor.

D3 plays at a similar speed to 2, has even more mobs at once, but changed up the skill and item systems in ways that upset a lot of people. The result is a game that is much more actiony than the previous two, but still quite good/fun in its own right. (Also the story execution is much worse in 3, unfortunately.)

So, to get back to your actual question, if you have access to the original and are okay with playing old, dated games, play it. If you dont have the patience for that, then just start with D2 then play 3.

And make sure you have the expansions to 2/3. (Fun fact, there was actually an expansion to D1, Hellfire, but it was made by Sierra, not Blizzard, and has largly been forgotten. It had the first Monk class, which was pretty different to what we got in D3.)

They also changed their job postings to be like this not too long before they started hiring for Diablo 4.

I miss the atmosphere of d2 way more than I miss the game portion. Still log in and play it every once in a while.

Strangely, I actually hate the art direction of the first 2 Diablo games. They come off as generic medieval to me. Nothing about it stands out in the slightest.

Give any sort of real Diablo announcement and I'll be happy -- Diablo 2 remaster, Diablo 3 expansion, or Diablo 4.

Oh man, I know it's a joke (is it?), but Sombra being added to Heroes of the Storm before being put into Overwatch would be the ultimate kick to the groin for people heavily invested with the ARG.

Do it Blizzard.

I'm living in Korea, does anyone know if I buy the virtual ticket on battle.net.kr if I'll get everything on every other region as well? From the description, it sounds like it really only matters for stream quality, which makes sense. My account isn't actually a KR region account originally.

Hoping for a D3 expansion or D4, but I'd be okay with a D2 remaster. I was never into Diablo 2 when it was popular, tried jumping into it years later but without the nostalgia I have trouble jumping into something that old. Loved D3 though.

Not expecting too much on the Warcraft front, but I would love an unexpected WCIII HD.

Not expecting anything out of Starcraft.

Hoping we get more than just Sombra (Sambra? Whatever her name is), 2 heroes being announced would be neat for Overwatch. I'd also like more maps and gamemodes.

Today is the day.

I just woke up.

Here we fucking go.

Is...is the blizzcon digital ticket thing worth it :s

Mainly thinking if the dev panels have been good?

The opening is always free, but the panels each year I feel are always worth it.

On that note, very confused at a lack of a countdown timer until the opening.

I can agree on everything said here.

Would love to see D2's environments and music (GOAT) brought into D3. Also any classes from D1/D2 brought forward (mainly Druid and Necromancer).

I had to sell my ticket this year since I couldn't get away from work. Super bummed out, but have a blast, folks!

People keep praising the D2 soundtrack, but the only track I remember from it is the Tristram theme. Remind me of some good ones. Preferably some with some sort of melody, and not just ambient noise.

Diablo
4
Announcement not until 8pm EST?
Anything large will be announced in the opening ceremony.

If it's something like a new card for Hearthstone or a new book, that might be later, but Diablo 4 would 100% be up front based on the last nine Blizzcons.

"Are you looking for Baaaaaaaaaaal?"
"You are too late, hahahahahahaha!"
"Not even DEATH can save you from me!"
"My brothers will not have died in vain!"

....oh music tracks

Awesome, thanks. Going to keep tabs on the opening ceremony.

Most of the tracks have a melody. Desert is my absolute favorite, starts with drums and has this really cool Arabian feel. Sanctuary has that feel too.

Having just listened to it, some favourites:

Spider
Leoric
Mesa

Those 3 all sound very similar to the Diablo 1 music, and the sound i associate most with the series. There are some other nice pieces in addition to the ones people mentioned already, especially from Lord of Destruction which sound a bit more Diablo 3'ish.

Diablo 4 should do what Path of Exile does. They have 3 month "challenge" leagues with unique gameplay features and there are 40 challenges you can complete. Completely challenges unlocks a few cosmetic pieces. It keeps people (me) coming back every few months. Great way to keep the population up and the new mechanics keep it fresh.

I loved that this is the only line of dialog Diablo himself had in 2. So powerful. Gives me chills every time.

Having the villains that stupid shit 24/7 completely ruined them for me in 3.

yeah but man, d2's ending was just perfect how baal reveals himself, kills marius and sets the whole place on fire. perfect way to setup an expansion instead of... whatever the hell we got in d3 instead

Yeaaaah for how much I liked D3 I'll give it to you the ending was not great. RoS also had a weak ending.
