He already said this is not about funding a pro.
It's basically just selling a PC that he doesn't make use of, and he could still get a good amount of money for it.

My point was more about the type of games he plays. If it is purely multiplayer titles then he should go ahead and sell his PC and just do PS4 Pro. If he plays a combination of titles, it's better to play on PC for the non-multiplayer focused titles.

Just... can't..... understand.....!!!

Anything you don't use get rid of, simple as, replacing with something else is a separate issue

It's not.
This whole topic is subjective.
People have different preferences how and where they play.

I also prefer playing singleplayer games on my PS4 for various reasons.
Resell value, currently pretty low game prices due the brexit, comfy couch gaming ™ and I just prefer my huge TV instead of my monitor.

Considering what OP said so far, it's pretty reasonable to assume that he doesn't play SP games on his PC either. Why should he keep it ? He will get laptop for other things, but gaming isn't one of them. Why shouldn't he just sell it ?

Why not?

As a PS4 user myself I find that video hilarious.

I bet you're also a big fan of the rest of the channels videos.

Is this a dumb idea?

Yeah , I mean why do you want to get PS4 pro and keeping your PS4 , and about selling your PC I don't know man that kinda hard to decide , is there no game in steam that grab your interest even with that HUGE library ?!! think about it a little longer , ask your firends if they have iterest in getting PC or not if not then sell it

I hope you don't regret this

...because referring to 'stability' in promotion of the PC over a console is laughable. Yes, console games can crash and have patches - but it's simply nowhere near the spectrum of issues you can encounter on the PC.

I mean ffs, read any performance thread on any PC game here. Even well-regarded ports on excellent systems will always have several people with issues. Stability of the platforms is not remotely comparable.

I think you should sell your PC and then in a few weeks make a new thread about how you regret selling your PC.

Don't bump this one.

Make a new thread.

I dont think its crazy at all. I too have no interest inpc exclusives these days. They arent at all what they use to be. Console developers are far ahead of pc developers these days. Biggest boon of pc gaming today is m&kb and high framerates. If those 2 werent huge for me thered be little else that would keep me on pc

With more console games getting PC ports than ever, I feel like my experience is exactly the opposite. Of course, I still buy all of the platforms for exclusives, but if a game is multiplatform including PC, I don't have any reason not to pick PC.

This exactly.

I mean, it's always been that way, but as PC ports become more common, and the total library on PC gets bigger, there's fewer reasons for me to justify buying a completely new machine every gen.

At least wait until Black Friday/Cyber monday so you can at least get a much better deal but otherwise nothing crazy about it, Its just like when you hear about people buying a brand new top of the line flagship phone so they can browse facebook and text 99% of the time. Spend the money where its going to be used.

If you've looked at every single PC game on Steam both released and upcoming, and none of them made you think "Yeah this is worth keeping my PC for" then you should sell it. You already said that your friends game on the PS4.

No sense keeping an expensive paperweight, I'd just suggest selling the parts because the entire thing is a much harder sell, at least with the parts you can just ship them.

Some details:

I currently own a regular PS4. I am buying a Pro either way, this isn't to fund its purchase, but instead get rid of a redundant device. The group I game with is straight PS4, so that's a big deal.

My rig:

GTX 970
Core i5-4670k
16 gigs of ram at 2400
Benq 24 inch G-Sync Monitor (not the greatest panel, but I can't lie... g-sync is badass)

Eh, might a well keep it, because you aren't going to make much of a return on your investment, with these specs.

I'm playing Titanfall with him right now, just giving him a hard time ;)
Enjoy it :p

Hold your horses guys: I find hilarious when things fail live on stage, like the EA guy at the MS E3 2014? conference or when Miyamoto was showing off Skyward Sword.
Fair point.
I also do. Just a pretty weird assumption to make based on that video.
Still renember how alot of people panicked when some of those PS4 display units in some shops overheated due the closed plastic case around it.

In all honesty, PCs are more of a money sink than children.
I'm with OP's logic here. Phones for porn, consoles for games.

Vic

Please help me with my bad english
My pc has been an expensive chromebook for years with the occasional indie games and short periods of games that actually push my pc.
My $900 pc has been used to browse gaf and the web 95% of the time over the years, i know the feels OP lol
Yeah, same here.

The amount of intangibles that also come with a PC are numerous. I think it's not only crazy, but an awful idea. Just wait on a price drop and stick with your PC. The Pro and its exclusives aren't going anywhere.

If you are certainly that you are not going to regret later( upcoming exclusive games for example) then sell it.

For me to do such a thing... sounds fuh-reaking crazy to me,

but if you have no use for/don't/won't play on your PC, then why not sell it I guess. As long as you know that you won't miss it in the future and end up building another one then you do you.

What exclusives are you looking forward to? Why don't you use your PC for single player games?

I think you should sell your PC and then in a few weeks make a new thread about how you regret selling your PC.

Don't bump this one.

Make a new thread.

And link back to this thread.

I think all other things being neutral, a PC is the best option in terms of cost control (once it's built), open platforms, and flexibility. But all other things are not neutral here - you said your main social circle plays on PS4. If that's the case, the decision is obvious - go where your friends are.

I'm not surprised most people think it's crazy co I do, but if you're already thinking about it then do it. No point hanging on to it because other people find value in stuff you dont.

I'm with OP's logic here. Phones for porn, consoles for games.

If someone is wasting more money on their PC than on their children there's only two options:

1 - They are buying top of the line content like Titan Xs, Gsync monitors, and changing them every year / multiple times a year.

2 - Their children are literally living in a dog house eating scrapes from the trash.

I should add I wouldn't be without a computer. I was considering buying a laptop (or Chromebook) since I'm likely going to be taking classes again come Spring.

Edit: Also I want to add I'm TOTALLY aware of this rig and it's significant power increase over a Pro. The fact of the matter is my group skews toward the PS4, so I skew toward the PS4. I rarely game on the PC anymore.

If thats the case, go for it. Most of my friend game on PC, so the majority of my time goes there, although I still do play on my Wii U and 3DS a good bit. If you need the money to use toward a PS4Pro I think it may be the best option for you. But if nothing coming on PC is appealing to you and you rarely don't play it, I don't see why you need to keep it. I don't know how I could live without mine, but hey different strokes for different folks :).

All these "nah, man, nah!" posts and not a single one about recommending PC exclusives. As expected.

Sell it.

I would easily take civ VI over any PS4 exclusive coming this year. I own a ps4 as well but I barely use the thing outside of watching blu rays tbh. Disgaea V and Bloodborne were cool.

Not really crazy in your use case.

I sold my PC about a year ago but my specs weren't nearly as good. I just never used it. I play almost exclusively on consoles. I do own some PC games but they all run fine on my MPB as they are mainly just the occasional game of League, WOW, or indies.

Not so crazy. I'm finding the Pro pretty alluring myself but for different reasons. I was a very long time console gamer that bailed out when the pro was rumored and went pc only. Mostly for VR and I love the Vive but 8+ months and multiple upgrades/rebuilds later I'm finding that pc gaming is really just feeding my nature to build and tweak and not really game. Nothing against pc gaming it's just that I find I focus more on performance and how to make it better. Always running stats, frame counters etc... It's purely mental and not the platform but it's something I didn't do with consoles. I won't sell my PC. After all it is also a utility device, but the upgrades I'm seeing the pro provide is pretty compelling to jump back in.

Kind of depends if OP has a PS4 currently I reckon; I was thinking about going pro, but my rig gets more and more playtime especially with Xbox exclusives coming out for PC now too, my PS4 will do for now I think.

My Xbox One is the only one in danger of becoming a dust collector due to the Xbox new service direction.

If you have a PS4 already OP, I'd say just upgrade your PC and grab an official DS4 dongle.

I'm actually doing what you are considering already. I've got a decent PC build, but currently I'm just not making use of my system (even though I bought BF1). And with FFXV coming out soon, I think that may hold me over (along with other things) until I rebuild just for Nier: Automata. If you aren't making use of it, sell it. Just as I plan to resell the PS4 Pro after I'm done with the 1 or 2 games I'm getting it for. But I've also got my Surface Pro that can still handle lighter/indie games.

I'd go craigslist or other methods before eBay contrary to what another user posted. Shipping a desktop PC on eBay looks to be a hassle and you'll get hit by fees.

I gotta admit I bought a new pc but still only use it about 50% of the time. Still can't get that xboxone controller to stay connected wirelessly and hoping ds4 will do it . Wanted to get bf1 on pc but it's all hinging on controllers

Not crazy. Especially if you are just downscaling the pc and still have one around. I use the playstation for most of the mainstream games and while the pc is indispensable for a lot of other types of games, I can do most of that on any laptop.
