Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

I posted it in another thread but watch the video "Grand Teton 8K" in the youtube app on your televisions. And keep in mind it looks like that without your television utilizing HDR. One of the best demos I have seen. I wish more would upload things at greater bitrates.

Ah, I should correct myself, mine is also a pending charge. I was going off an email alert I got from Amex about the approved transaction. Standard procedure not to charge you until they ship. But yes, an update would be nice.
 
Mine is on "preparing order for shipment"

There's a charge on my card, though it's still processing...

As long as it's here before black friday week I'm good. I need to find out what the best sound bar is that would fit under it.

So the LG E6 I ordered is going to have 3 HDMI ports, according to the specs. This means that the three ports would be filled up by the following:

1. PS4 Pro

2. Home Theater Receiver (for audio)

3. Xbox One S (once I get one, for 4K movies)

Unfortunately, that leaves no open ports for my other devices. On my current TV I use the following two things for extra ports:

1. My Home Theater Receiver (which has four HDMI ports)

2. My vanilla HDMI switch (three ports)

Here's my question: if I were to put the Xbox One S, where its only 4K benefit is 4K movies, in either my receiver or HDMI switch, will I still get the full picture benefit? Or does it have to be specifically connected to the TV or a compliant 4K switch?

If it's the latter, then what's the cheapest alternative for a 4K-compliant HDMI switch?

Furthermore, is there any benefit to plugging in non-4K devices (like my Wii U) directly to the TV and with the required HDMI cable? Or would the upscale benefit be the same regardless?

It depends on your receiver. Which one do you have?
 
So I called Samsung support and they said the 55" KS8000 wasn't showing as backordered. Said something about more stock arriving at their warehouses today and that it would likely ship in a few days and arrive next week.
 
So it seems like GAF's pick for best 4K HDR gaming set is the Samsung KS8000. Do you guys think I should pick this up now, or wait for a possible Black Friday drop?

there's no way that there's going to be a price lower than the $750 this was going for with the weekend promo code that GAF was all over.

just keep an eye out for good deals on it where it's $1,000 or less.

Wasn't that promo for a smaller size? I can't do anything lower than the 65."
 
I have a confirmation number and my card was charged, but I'm still not able to look up my order. I guess I'll just wait and see what happens. Fingers crossed
 
Man this AGS stuff is annoying, arrived in my town today, but apparently they farm out residential deliveries to another company. They have to pick it up from AGS and then contact me. Just let me pick it up lol.

Thx. To find about the input lag what do I have to look in the specs of the TV? I can't find anything on the official pages of those sony tvs -.-
 
Just realised I have an Xrite i1Display Pro calibrator sitting here and I have no idea how to use it on my TV lol.

Easy on my PC, just plug it in and let it do.

I think we need a calibration thread.

Samsungs website is pretty shitty, when you try to log in to your account and moving around. I get logged out for no reason as Im clicking thru my account.

However, if look up the order number manually, and you should be able to see it.

If you sit like 4-5 feet then the difference is noticeable. I'd think the hdr picture will be much more noticeable than the resolution at that size. I have 65 inch and at 8 feet sometimes I can't tell. I think my set is upconverting 1080p signal well to 4k though.

This doesn't work for me either. Who knows.

I'm almost starting to hope the order doesn't go through. I really wanted an OLED and CES is right around the corner. It was definitely an impulse buy at that price point. I'm just worried I'll have buyer's remorse in less than six months. Oh well.

Might have not be an extra 6" but that's a surface area equal to a 24" 16:9 screen on top :p

Seriously though 49/50" is a great size.
 
my current TV is a 50" Samsung KU6300, I really like the TV, even though it doesn't have a wide color gamut for full HDR.

It appears that out of the 3 HDMI connections, only HDMI 1 supports 4k60 4:4:4. Would this be the HDMI connector I use for a PS4 pro? I currently have my PC connected to it and have been playing older games in 4K on it via my gtx1060 (Tales of Zestiria, Final Fantasy X, Resident Evil Revelations 2). I assume the other two HDMI connectors only support 4K30?

edit - I'm seeing conflicting things, the rtings review for my screen says only HDMI input 1 supports 4k60 4:4:4, but then everywhere else says all the HDMI connectors are 2.0a and the HDMI FAQ says 2.0 supports 4k60....very confused....
 
So, my wife has given me a birthday gift of my own corner of the Living Room as my gaming area. This excites me so much, as I can plan my attack and get the best setup for my money and my PS4 PRO.

Here's the thing: I don't need a super huge TV. I'm going to be 3-4 feet in front of it max. Do I get a small 40" 4K HDR tv like the KU6300, opt out of HDR and get a 4K monitor like the Samsung 28" 4K monitor, or just get a gaming monitor like the ASUS 27" IPS monitor and be happy?

For full disclosure, I'll have about $1500 to spend, including the cost of the PS4 PRO.

Not till the 15th. I'm at work down in London Thurs-Sun an wont get back home to Worcester till about 08:30 on the Monday so I'll be wiped out, Tuesday was the best bet!

Even started looking at amps since I have £280 sitting in Amazon I won from my Matched Betting!

Looking forward to DBT85's impressions about input lag on the XD93. That might sway me.

Only just seen this.

I wouldn't hold your breath on my impressions RE input lag, I'm not captain sensitive with these things. Since I've been primarily a PC gamer I basically struggle to control both sticks on a controller at once let alone notice that what I did wasn't quite right :P

If I can feel anything I'll let you know though. Check out the thread on AV forums, several people there playing games on it and also waiting on a Pro.

The latest firmware came out today with the following notes
Resolves the juddering issue when using a UHD Set-top box
Reduces input lag for HDR game mode (4K HDR TV models only: X85C, S85C, X91C, X90C, X93C, X94C, SD85, XD85, XD94, XD93)
Improves the stability of the TV
