Looking back at this whole thing... the writing really was there. Trump's fascist-like speeches. Thousands of people waiting in lines to fill up his huge rallies. The slogans, everything. He proved that you didn't need a ground game. You didn't need a GOTV strategy. Trump created a goddamn movement, and that's all you really need. His base had the same kind of energy behind it that Obama's did in 08.

Kind of crazy how we all discounted him time and time again, and here we are. Still feels like I'm living in an alternate reality.

If you can show me succinctly how both sides are just as bad, I'll be receptive.
When did I say that? Just because both sides are culpable doesn't mean that they are equally so. Now you're asking me to prove a point I didn't make. Perhaps you should take a moment to cool off rather than being so combative.

I'm not celebrating Trump's presidency, or endorsing his platform in any way. I was expressing my disgust at how people are treating each other as a result of this election.

Alot of this I think is the media. The UK suffered too. They make it seem like isis and people who are of same color etc are all bad people and are roaming our streets and they are all out to get you.

The media have given a platform for racists and that etc to come out and at the same time play on the weak and make them fear these people and turned these people against the norm aswell. This has been going on for a while now and its been ignored as something small.

What is this greatest country bullshit?

USA is basically a third world country with first world money. People live on the streets and in tent cities.

You just elected a TV celebrity with zero experience.

USA has never been the greatest country in the world and never will be with presidents like these. Stop kidding yourselves and start really caring for your country.
As someone who has actually lived in a developing country, no. The United States is nowhere near close the amount of poverty and suffering in countries that actually have problems feeding their populace. You cannot even compare the struggles or rural America with the famine in African countries and the rampant corruption of Latin American ones. The fact that political talk has been able to equate the economic well-being of the United States with actually poor nations is a testament to the role of media in indoctrination.

You are not the greatest poster in NeoGAF and never have been. Kidding aside, the Constitution was an incredible achievement, and don't forget our involvement in WWII, that we put the first man on the moon, our medical and scientific advancements, etc. What country would you put as tops? The word, "great", is a pretty subjective world, I realize, but I gotta know what ground you're standing on here.
You do realise that more than half of it was due to a rivalry and animosity with another country rather than doing it for the sake of advancements.

Imagine Trump at NATO meeting. Or G20 Summits. You think we've derailed American progress? Wait until he interrupts every other person. The worst part is that the people saying this is the end of the world might be right if he fails to address climate change or actively goes against it.

You do realise that more than half of it was due to a rivalry and animosity with another country rather than doing it for the sake of advancements.

What does that even mean? Does any country do anything for the "sake of advancement"? That's a pretty out-of-touch view of the modern political system.

Man, too bad Bernie is probably too old to run again.

Pisses me off that College tuition and minimum wage weren't an issue at all after the primaries

We still got Warren. No question about her progressive cred. I think Bernie even stated he wanted het to be VP. Plus she's been personally slamming Trump on Twitter throughout the election. She'd eat him alive in the next election.

I agree.

I'm going to admit right now that I have been a Trump supporter for over a year. But I didn't talk about it because I felt I'd be tarred and feathered over it. I saw the binary nature of us versus them on both sides and said 'I'm playing this close to the chest.' As for why I supported him, I wanted Trump to either destroy the Republican establishment because I was fed up with their lukewarm shit or change the world. And honestly? He got both and I'm ecstatic over it. For better or worse, I will own it. I understand all of the shit he said/did rubbed people the wrong way, and he definitely went overboard a few times. But I just wanted something different than DC insiders. Bernie, for all of the outsider talk, isn't an outsider. The dude looked like his soul was destroyed after endorsing Hillary, and his supporters felt cheated, and got validated from it via WikiLeaks. But honestly, that was a debate that I think would've been enlightening to everyone. But since it didn't (and probably won't due to Bernie's age) happen, we have to think about where we go from here.
You were falsely convinced anti-establishment was ever a thing that would happen in any practical capacity. Enjoy Rudy, Newt, and the like.

"Went overboard"

How can you rationalize this?

You seem starved for facts. You're on a computer; educate yourself. And no, not at all the leftist echo chambers you usually frequent. Look for objective facts.

The truth is out there.
It's the new York times a leftist echo chamber?

Knows what, you haven't actually addressed anything well, at all. So I'm not going to bother.

It's cute hope you're trying to act like you're the only person with any intelligence though.

Next time take the celebrities out of the campaign. I can't begin to explain how bad it just comes across. Get rid of the corruption, build a party focused on the people and distance yourselves from big banks and choose someone that isn't the most disliked politician in recent times.

Trump is a celebrity, Trump is highly disliked, and Trump has a long history of being highly corrupt. Rural voters from bumfuck usa had other reasons to be supporting this awful, awful man.

Still waiting for you to "educate yourself" first. You've been asked multiple times now to bring actual evidence to your argument, not just what you've pulled out of your ass. It's on you at this point to find them and come back, don't go pushing it others because everything you've brought to the table is easily refutable.

You haven't supported any of your arguments with any objective evidence to even be evaluated. If you want to be taken even remotely seriously you need to show us evidence that your arguments are even tangibly based in the first place.

What's so wrong with educational policies specifically?
Why are we going to change our mind?
What of Trump's policies and plan illustrates any of this?

Clinton worked with Bernie for these things but decided to spend her whole time smirking and calling GOP deplorable

This is surreal. Not an American, but I was shocked to the core this morning. I drove to work like a zombie. I can't believe this happened and this is the world we live in.

1) Did you read the post I was responding to, and if so, what is your point?

2) Reagan was a politician, and had experience in governing. Trump is a celebrity and crappy businessman. That's it.

3) Fuck Reagan.

He isn't seen as the typical Hollywood celebrity. Look at the shit Sarah Silverman has been saying in recent weeks. That shit doesn't fly with the average American.

All of Hollywood was like that. It felt as if they were forcing people to vote a certain direction.

So you're shitposting on purpose and don't want to engage in a little conversation, and now smug because you think you hit some nerve? Kind of weird, but okay. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just an off-topic side note on "and don't forget our involvement in WWII"...you should go read up on the Soviet Union's contribution. There are a lot of misconceptions around WW2 due to movies and television. I doubt anyone who's done the reading would mention WW2 in that list of yours.

What does that even mean? What do you expect is going to happen here with someone who doesn't know anything about politics?

You understand all the shit he said? It sounds more like you just don't care.

He's a rich guy insider, he doesn't give a shit about paying taxes, he even applauds those who made fortunes out of the financial crisis while millions lost their homes:"that's good business!!"

Those who think he'll do better for the little man than any old career politician will feel the burn, he doesn't give a shit about anybody else than himself and his little entourage.

What the fuck is this fucking shit? Marine Le Pen in France feels like she has grown wings. Please be a terrible President Donald, so that the world sees how disastrous electing people like you really is.

Again, please actually read up on the situation in europe instead of spreading this fearmongering crap. There is almost zero chance Le Pen will make it in 2017 because of the protocol the socialists+republicans have where if it's one of them vs FN the other automatically supports the non-FN party.

Have empathy for the racists, those that aren't every effected by then cry.

Someone get my Huey Freeman gif please, I'm out. For real this time.

I couldn't help myself and watched his speech. Surprisingly measured and not the combative tone I anticipated after the rotten campaign and all the awful stuff he's said. He says all the 'right' things though - perhaps what just people want to hear but we will see - and I can see how he rouses people so much compared to Hillary.

What a crazy day!

And I think the same of you. But the fact is, more Americans seem to agree with me right now than agree with you.

Treat the next four years as a learning opportunity. Keep an open mind. With age comes wisdom.

Just jumping in about this particular phrase, I dislike when people use it. "Keeping an open mind" is not the same as having critical thinking. "Keeping an open mind" is not the same as questioning everything or scrutinising facts, rumours, speculation and evidence.

And most certainly, "Keeping an open mind" never means to become unbiased about something, it is always the complete opposite.

____

Keeping on-topic, with regards to this election I am not surprised that this outcome happened. I've experienced first hand that people don't take voting seriously, they become complacent and don't really bother to scrutinise the politicians who could come into power to see whether they are really serving the people's interests or are self-serving.

It's very easy to persuade people's emotions into coming together for a cause, that's why Trump's platform was actually strong. I would hope that people could think for themselves and that they would use logic and reason to decide something but that will never be the case.

That's why I've also seen first hand that people never learn from their mistakes either, so believe me that it is possible for Trump to stay around for a second term, you may think that people would have learned their mistakes but unfortunately that isn't likely to be the case.

2) Reagan was a politician, and had experience in governing. Trump is a celebrity and crappy businessman. That's it.

3) Fuck Reagan.

My point was it's not unprecedented or noteworthy unto itself. I don't give a shit about Reagan.

You seem starved for facts. You're on a computer; educate yourself. And no, not at all the leftist echo chambers you usually frequent. Look for objective facts.

The truth is out there.

No no you're right.

Thank god the poor super protected police wont be getting any more harassment from those damn BLM assholes asking for policing reform and accountability.

I'm extremely intrigued as to how you believe a Trump presidency will achieve the suppression of the rights of a certain group to protest though or why you even think its a "good thing" they wont have a voice anymore?

Why don't you go ask any minority what Trump will bring and they'll be more than "happy" to tell you it doesn't involve them.

Look at the cities, the urban areas where the strife and desperation are so prevalent.

Most are run by Democrats. Democrat policies are hurting those people.

Look it up. It's true.

And for you folks who missed the Project Veritas videos, it was Democratic operatives who paid poor people and the mentally ill to raise hell at Trump rallies in an effort to make Trump supporters look bad.

You've been duped. But you don't have to swallow all that you've been fed. You can research and find out yourself.

America GAF.

I can say, with utmost sincerity, that the whole of my country (Holland) is stumped by the choice your fellow countrymen made.

I can not believe I woke up to this and I also can not fathom how the minority, who Trump viciously attacked throughout his campaign, must feel right now.

A despicable human being has been made the most strongest figure in the world. Unbelievable.
