So the AfD is gaining votes or no? What's the answer?

it's contained, they reached their ceiling atm. The (far-right) Freedom party in Austria has been "on the rise" for over a decade now, but the other parties have been wise enough to not form a government with them except for the one time when they did in the early 2000s, with disastrous long-term consequences for the economic
Not really.
:lol

If you can show me succinctly how both sides are just as bad, I'll be receptive.
How about you read his post instead of being a condescending shit? Nowhere did he say that both sides are equally bad. His post was about how the dems alienated a huge group of voters by being condescending shits.

And the reverse, in an obviously lesser sense in the sense that most republicans are quiet about it due to aforementioned condescension.

I'm about to lose every civil liberty and step towards equality for Gay rights we've made in the last decade, aren't I?

It feels like I just got the right to marry a man I love, and now I fully expect Pence to do everything he can to roll back discrimination protections while Trump sits back and shrugs.

I'm just not a real human being to Republicans unless I'm keeping my voice down and "behaving."

This economic depression started under W. Bush. So I don't know why you'd say it'd continue under Hillary and not Trump.

It's right wing economic policies that accelerate the divide between rich and poor anyway.

I can understand a "fuck it" vote for economic change, but there is no evidence or reason that Trump has any way forward on this issue.

I'd say this economic malaise of the lower and middle class began in the 1980s under President Reagan (worker wages, corrected for inflation, peaked in the late '70s under President Carter, I think) [President Carter was actually a great President, I have not the slightest clue why so many Americans abhor him so much]. That was the time globalisation and neoliberalism kicked into turbo mode and the American industry got destroyed. High paying, secure industry jobs went away, and you got low paying, insecure service jobs instead.

I've been first to the USA as a kid in the early 1990s. On one of the trips we've been to rural Pennsylvania. About 20 years later I've visited some of those places again. Some of the cities which were lovely and sprawling in the early '90s look like war zones now. Absolutely devastating.

Trump was the only candidate besides Bernie Sanders who acknowledged this problem and vowed to try to fix it. He wants to 'make America great again'. Hillary Clinton on the other hand stressed at every moment how unbelievably well off America was, how it allegedly improved so much in the last decades and how it didn't need any saving because it was great as it is. America is great, but only for a select few people in the top 5 percent. Everybody else suffers from declining quality of life, job insecurity, low pay, high health care premiums and so on.

I can totally understand why the people elected President Trump. With him you can at least hope.

My point was it's not unprecedented or noteworthy unto itself. I don't give a shit about Reagan.

It absolutely is unprecedented, at least in modern times, for someone with absolutely ZERO experience in any kind of government or public service to be elected president of the United States.

I agree.

I'm going to admit right now that I have been a Trump supporter for over a year. But I didn't talk about it because I felt I'd be tarred and feathered over it. I saw the binary nature of us versus them on both sides and said 'I'm playing this close to the chest.' As for why I supported him, I wanted Trump to either destroy the Republican establishment because I was fed up with their lukewarm shit or change the world. And honestly? He got both and I'm ecstatic over it. For better or worse, I will own it. I understand all of the shit he said/did rubbed people the wrong way, and he definitely went overboard a few times. But I just wanted something different than DC insiders. Bernie, for all of the outsider talk, isn't an outsider. The dude looked like his soul was destroyed after endorsing Hillary, and his supporters felt cheated, and got validated from it via WikiLeaks. But honestly, that was a debate that I think would've been enlightening to everyone. But since it didn't (and probably won't due to Bernie's age) happen, we have to think about where we go from here.

The GAF trump supporters coming out of the woodworks because they feel validated now lmfao. You supported a bigoted reality star to run this country. Don't feel too good.

Look at the cities, the urban areas where the strife and desperation are so prevalent.

Most are run by Democrats. Democrat policies are hurting those people.

Look it up. It's true.

And for you folks who missed the Project Veritas videos, it was Democratic operatives who paid poor people and the mentally ill to raise hell at Trump rallies in an effort to make Trump supporters look bad.

You've been duped. But you don't have to swallow all that you've been fed. You can research and find out yourself.
You are like one step away from saying darkies.

Yeah see I don't tend to think Alex Jones is a good news source.

You just did that, now the whole world is in a death spiral.

I actually think it was light.

I want to see people homeless in mass in America bigger than the crisis in San Francisco.

Maybe suffering has to hit a plenum for people to see the futility they stood for and elected in Trump.

I know people will suffer through the inept promises of jobs, for the future of Capitalism is the negation of human capital within it, so these will rightfully taste tears.

But that's not enough. We need more. We need people emotionally torn to shreds.

Your "outsider" is a born rich NYC businessman that has been shoved down my throat in pop culture for over 30 years.

Some outsider. He's a rich man celebrity.

He's gonna enrich himself and make all kinds of shady deals. You know this right? Just look at his dealings in casinos and golf courses. He's a typical oligarch and you got sold a "bridge" by him being some kind of outside maverick.

You took his crude rudeness as a sign that he wasn't a fat cat. Joke is on you.
The sad thing is that the joke is on his children, as it's a generation worth of fuck up.

America GAF.

I can say, with utmost sincerity, that the whole of my country (Holland) is stumped by the choice your fellow countrymen made.

I can not believe I woke up to this and I also can not fathom how the minority, who Trump viciously attacked throughout his campaign, must feel right now.

A despicable human being has been made the most strongest figure in the world. Unbelievable.

This ^

I couldn't help myself and watched his speech. Surprisingly measured and not the combative tone I anticipated after the rotten campaign and all the awful stuff he's said. He says all the 'right' things though - perhaps what just people want to hear but we will see - and I can see how he rouses people so much compared to Hillary.

What a crazy day!

He can be measured and conciliatory all day. He won.

Just think about who he's gonna appoint to positions of authority in the executive in a few months. Holy shit.

No, you can not say that. Wilders was a Trump supporter and afaik he is or was leading the dutch polls recently. Please can we stop constantly generalizing entire populations/demographics/races already? And even if it might seem that way, "we" as europeans are in no positions to call the americans dumb or whatever, when this populist right-wing trend started here way before it manifested in the US.

I am from Europe but how disliked Clinton must be over there to lose to an opponent like Trump. It almost felt like a free win to her from how bad he was.

You are not the greatest poster in NeoGAF and never have been. Kidding aside, the Constitution was an incredible achievement, and don't forget our involvement in WWII, that we put the first man on the moon, our medical and scientific advancements, etc. What country would you put as tops? The word, "great", is a pretty subjective world, I realize, but I gotta know what ground you're standing on here.

It's completely subjective, and you can make arguments for every country when you look for them. You're American, so of course you're biased towards thinking of your own country's past achievements and ignoring the past achievements of others.

Britain had the largest Empire in the history of the world, and YOU speak their language.

Japan is the oldest uninterrupted empire in the world, lasting over 1700 years.

Germany is ranked number one in the "Best Countries" list at the moment, which is a comprehensive American ranking system based on 65 different attributes. America came fourth by the way.

Maybe it's time for the democrats and the establishment to take a good hard look at what the base wants from the party?

When did I say that? Just because both sides are culpable doesn't mean that they are equally so. Now you're asking me to prove a point I didn't make. Perhaps you should take a moment to cool off rather than being so combative.

I'm not celebrating Trump's presidency, or endorsing his platform in any way. I was expressing my disgust at how people are treating each other as a result of this election.

Which do you think is worse: the vitriol leveled at Trump supporters now, or what's to come with a thoroughly Republican-led government with a puppet president?

I'll admit that internet civility takes a backseat for me in light of the former, and especially when people who will be the least affected are clucking their tongues and telling everyone to settle down.

I'm not going to cool off because it has just been proven that the majority of our country's voting population prefers and inexperienced loudmouth who makes lots of vague promises from a platform based on hate as their leader. I and others have every right to be upset. Trump should not be treated like any other candidate thus far, and his supporters have demonstrable critical thinking issues, as you can see for yourself in this thread. Regardless of what Trump actually carries out as president in the next 4 years, we have to live with the consequences of bigotry being validated on an international stage. People will be hurt in many ways.

It's a good thing because we can stop the class warfare, and maybe just get along as fellow Americans.

It's a good thing because we can get rid of this income-redistribution plan called Obamacare, and perhaps bring back some of those many doctors who have been disaffected and left the profession.

It's a good thing for law enforcement, who has been slandered and demonized and assassinated because of the astroturf movement that is Black Lives Matter.

It's a good thing for the national budget, which would go bust with the Democrats' spending and leave our country broken and bankrupt.

It's a good thing because despite what you have been told, half of Hispanics agree that open borders are a problem and that a legal path to citizenship is the only way to be fair to legal immigrants, blacks, and others looking to climb the jobs ladder.

It's a good thing because the president of the United States will not be indebted to foreign countries who have donated handsomely to the Clinton Foundation. U.S. interests will no longer be for sale for the personal enrichment of the Clinton family.

I could go on, but hopefully you will read up on things yourself and come to a more mature understanding of the way the world works, and America's noble place in the international community.

The only class warfare and income redistribution going on here is by the tiny minority of rich people on the planet ravaging and pillaging everyone else. The 2 U.S. Big Tent parties are proxies for different subsets of industries led by these exact people. Trump is a blatant con artist and always has been. He is a true opportunist that will sell out to the highest bidder like every other corrupt politician there ever has been. So, the cycle of the rich ravaging and pillaging everyone else will continue with Trump selling out to the highest bidder. He is literally America's Silvio Berlusconi.

You might want to check those "low information" sources you're using there, buddy.

Basically did in all 3 debates, at least.

She spent the entirety of the 3 debates winning, looking like someone who knows a what the fuck shes talking about, that's what she did, but did it matter to an idiot electorate hell bent on making this orange shit our next president? Of course not, most of them had other things on their minds.

Alex Jones alt account surely.

Man, too bad Bernie is probably too old to run again.

Pisses me off that College tuition and minimum wage weren't an issue at all after the primaries

The fuck yall I'm getting mine mentality among a lot of folks killed Bernie chances.

I guess america voting for the right person for the job for 3 straight times was too much to ask.

I know, guess I just expected some crazy incendiary speech about locking Hillary up or something. I'm worried for the coming years that's for sure. Such a loose cannon.

I.....see. Honest question, do you know who made those videos and what he has been found to be doing? I like the "you've been duped" as well, considering what you're trying to bring up as evidence.
