I see three possible outcomes for the EU:
- Mainstream political parties realise the danger ahead and step the fuck up
- Mainstream (not just radical) conservative see Trump's success and try to model themselves after the GOP just like they did a decade ago with Bush
- Emboldened by Brexit and Trump's victory, far right parties conquer large parts of Europe previously denied to them
I don't like the odds. It's never been more critical for Europe not to fuck it up, both at national and Union levels. We absolutely don't want anything weird happening in the Baltics nor the Balkans.
Frankly, I believe we'll see a mixture of 2 and 3. Traditional conservative parties will move to the right and eventually most governments, depending on the system, will either be more-to-the-right-now conservatives or coalitions of conservatives and right-wing populists. Once EU borders are eventually secured, the middle east more or less stabilized, ISIS eradicated and proper immigration channels set up, things will become more liberal again. What most people fail to see is that this shit works like a pendulum. A pendulum that currently swings to the right due to several reasons - but the world isn't suddenly gonna end and we're all gonna die in WW3 - the pendulum will eventually swing back to the left again etc.
Also please let's not fall into the trap of assuming everyone in europe just turned racist and antieuropean overnight. Shit's a consequence of failed EU policies and PR.
