You know what, guys and gals? For being such a smart bunch of caring liberals, the hatred shown toward me in this thread speaks volumes of you.

Guess you're not the wonderful, welcoming, and inclusive people you all pretend to be.

Much easier to project your problems onto others you don't agree with, I suppose.

The good news is, you have four years to learn differently, if Donald Trump does right by the people and the country.

He may. He may not. I can only hope for the best.

I'll just leave this here to lighten the mood.

Why should we show anything but contempt for this bigoted, hate filled buffoon and everybody who supports him? If you expect us to tolerate intolerance, to abide by hatred, you've got another thing coming.

My friend just confessed he voted third party in protest. He was positive Clinton was going to win in a landslide, and was convinced the vote wouldn't matter. Being a minority, he's now scared to death about Trump getting into office.

let him know he's a piece of shit

we've been dead wrong about both Brexit and this presidental election. I'm starting to think that we might actually have a bit of a echo chamber issue

lol at think.

I have to admit I am surprised at these results. I had a bit more faith in my fellow americans. I see now my usual cynical outlook was the appropriate one.

At least we won't get TrumpTV now.

Just Trump on TV. Nearly every day. In a position of authority.

I've thought this too lol.

President Trump will obviously be a tyranny on the order of the world.... but at least I won't have to see him as a pundit.

I guess the next question is if a Republican congress will keep him in check. If he continues to antagonise the 'establishment republicans' who don't go along with things like this that he wants to do, they could make life difficult for themselves mutually. Which maybe is no bad thing...

His anti-trade policies are popular with both the tea party and the far left, so he'll get that through. His tax plan is basically a Republican wet dream, so he'll get that through. He'll get his supreme court nominees through for sure. He'll repeal Obamacare for sure.

Oddly enough I doubt he'll be able to get his infrastructure spending plan through.

The irony about being a condescending snob while calling other people condescending snobs is too much.

The further irony that your candidate has likely not won the popular vote and you're acting like he has a mandate is also hilarious.

"It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a President, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”

Those voters wouldn't matter in grand scheme of things. Hillary got her ass beat. This ain't Bush Gore 01

Established politicians being thrown off by Trump winning is expected really.

Its not just the politicians. Its the entire Federal Govt. The whole apparatus. Foreign Affairs, Treasury and Finance are all scared mindless

We have close ties to the worlds largest muslim country, Indonesia, China is our biggest trading partner and a lot of our exports depend on free trade agreements. And he wants to tear down all the military co-operation like NATO and in our case ANZUS.

A lot of Trumps stated positions make our relationships very very difficult.

Clinton just not showing up is indeed, spineless.

Way to thank the people that worked tirelessly on your campaign.

Yeah, not a good look at all. Plays into the whole narrative of her thinking it was HER time. Thinking of herself and chucking a hissy fit.

To be 100% honest, I think this mainly comes from liberals who don't want to believe just how terrible people can be.

I've been surrounded by terrible all my life that jump for a chance at a Trump, I've always been a film believer, to say the least. I just didn't expect that type of person to go fucking ape shit, essentially cancelling out minority voters.

I heard Trump talking about building a good infrastructure and great roads.

Heard that before.

If he actually does this, Democrats will be all over this to get it passed. One of the few good things that may come out of it. Outside of the Supreme Court, and the executive filled with Christie, Carter, and Giuliani.

How was the cross burning party?

My mom told me when I woke up just a few minutes ago, and I couldn't believe her. I feel very sorry for you Americans, you're going to see for yourselves what populism tastes back (spoiler alert: it sucks). It set my country back like 80 years or so, let's hope the same doesn't happen to you.

I really don't understand how someone like Donald Trump can win. I thought that as a society you were better than this. It appears racism and sexism over there is even worse than it seems.

the problem is forums like this are huge echo chambers. people like my dad (the average white-middle-class-conservative-uneducated-voter) don't go online and talk about who they are voting for, let alone disclose it to 'pollsters' or anyone else.

The bottom line is you're defending an explicitly racist, exclusionary platform. Don't complain about the pushback when you're caught using verbal slight of hand to justify bigotry.

Rejecting intolerance is not in fact an example of intolerance.

I just woke up to the news. America what in the absolute fuck. This seems like some orwellian nightmare but actually worse. I nearly can't believe it.

Gaf is an echo chamber but the reality is if it wasn't there would be a bunch of alt-right racists and sexists in here like twitter or reddit. I go here because it's mostly safe from those types.

it bothers me to see how right michael moore was in the end

really have a hard time walking away and trying to sleep tonight, it feels like there is too much to think about

Well, I guess we'll get a chance to see if all those "we have to let the country go to shit before it gets better" people were right.

What a complete and utter shock to see. I have to say, I'm kind of glad I'm not in America right now.

We fucked up, guys.

The problem with trump going for a wall and infrastructure is that he needs to raise taxes on the wealthy to get it done.

Seeing the outrage on twitter makes me wonder if there will be an all out race war in the US - a lot of angry whites and justifiably angry black people there

no shit!

Fuck I'm so devastated by this outcome. it's made all the worse knowing that his supporters are actively drinking up the tears of those who are nothing more than sewage to them.

Why is empathy in such short supply...

she didn't even come out to thank her supporters or anything. unless she collapsed due to shock i gotta say tonight is reflecting extremely poorly on her as well.

hopefully she says something soon.
To be fair, she must feel shaken to her core right now. She lost to a caricature. Smarts, hard work, experience, and the facts were trumped by an incurious pussy grabbing populist with no political qualifications.
