The pendulum has always swung back and forth in American politics. It's just that the young folks were spoiled by Obama and thought it was a permanent state.

Being against Hillary doesn't make someone a racist. Not everyone against Hillary was necessarily FOR Trump. It's the above attitude that was a part of the problem that has caused this.

Yep Michael Moore hit it bang on. People assuming all Trump voters voted for him out of racist or mysoginist ideals, willfully ignoring the large swaths of formerly middle class people that lost their jobs when factories moved out of the US en masse over the past two decades.

Fact is Trump got a lot of votes because of people's wallets, not because of their skin color.

That's not my point. Joffrey doesn't even count in this (I mean, he's not even in the race, given he was given the crown, was the heir). In other words, this isn't about character, it's about their roles in the story.

Clinton ascension into the White House was anywhere from 2 to 20 years in the making. Stannis winning instead of Daenerys makes no sense narrative/thematic point of view unless you are going for a complete reversal of expectations - which is where we are right now.

The base state of our country is to be unhappy with the government. So we give each of the parties turns to piss us off until we oust them for the other party and the whole dance repeats again.

Whatever happens/ed during the election in event of a failure is not the fault of the people.

The Democratic party failed the people, the people did not fail the Democratic party.

They are the ones, who have to learn what taking their base for granted looks like. They are the ones who have to realize that money and collusion with corrupt big players will eventually mean your downfall.

They are the ones who have to realize that 'business as usual' will destroy their own voting bloc. And it won't be their voters fault, it will be theirs.

Trump only needed for the Democrats and the left to be demoralized, the GOP have been crazy ever since Obama was elected, there was no way they would be demoralized.

Trump only need to come in and gin up the people left and they could overrun the democrats easily, who were so self assured in their dominance because they were the insiders for so long, and were the ones who dealt on the global stage.

They felt they didn't have to appeal to their base at all, and this is what happens. This is what happens when Trump appeals to the core of the righwing base, and Hillary and the dems actively shun the leftwing.

European systems are a bit different mostly. Even if Wilders get to be the largest, he needs to work with others to form a coalition. Good luck with that after he blew up the last coalition he was (unofficially) part of.

These posts are likely directly referring to people who voted for and supported Trump. If you can find posts labeling those who simply didn't vote for Hillary as racist I'd be interested in seeing them.

You can be empathetic by having an actual discussion with them. People's minds can be changed. My entire family and a lot of my friends are conservative, but I've watched of their hard-right political views soften over the years.

What other choice is there? There is obviously a huge swath of American voters who support the things Trump stands for. Those people aren't going to just evaporate. You start a respectful dialogue with them or you cross your fingers every election and hope that a bombshell democratic candidate like Obama gets the nomination.

Doesn't really negate the overall point that GAF (to be fair the vast majority of media/internet/civilization) assumed a democratic win was a given. Plus there was definitely a several month period where GAF bemoaned 'Bernie Bros', and while Bernie or Busters were misguided and other forums like Reddit's criclejerk over him was obnoxious, it felt like it was effort that could've been focused on mending ties between the two groups instead of just demonizing supporters who felt slighted by 'the establishment'.
 
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Hillary's campaign should be able to request a recount in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, right? Trump won those states by only one point.

Yes but we live in a reality where you cant just completely change how a person thinks. People vote independent when they don't like either candidates. Both Hillary and Trump had massive unfavorables according to polls for ages so yes more people are going to vote independent than usual. This isn't anyone's fault but the Democratic Party for not grooming a strong candidate in the 8 years of an Obama presidency, and Hillary's for utterly failing to inspire your country's voters. The sooner people accept that and stop shaking their fist at the world the sooner you can begin to rebuild a viable progressive political platform for the USA.
