But who was treating whom as less than human?

The anti-Hillary folk weren't being assholes, but the Pro Hillary group were being COMPLETE assholes to those for somply not sharing the same opinion. Sorry, that's not on.

Your entire frame of reference for a real election that affects real people, specifically the most vulnerable among us, the ones who might literally lose loved ones to deportation or the repeal of their marriage to the love of their life, is people saying mean things about bigots on a video game forum. For fuck's sake straight white people, learn some perspective and basic fucking empathy. This is embarrassing.

I begrudgingly voted Trump. If the Dems had given me a candidate I could have gotten behind I would have voted Dem. People loved jumping on me for my choice and calling me all kinds of names. Feeling a bit justified now. Still, really shitty that these were our choices.

You feel justified in emboldening and supporting a racist platform? One that has the KKK thanking God for electing Trump?

Its surreal. I think the people telling us we need to try and bridge the gap with people like him are crazy. They aren't allies, they just want their desires reinforced, and if they aren't they cease to care about anything, even things that are important.

But Im supposed to find some way to find a middle ground with that guy? It's too much. Trump and Bernies policies are damn near POLAR OPPOSITES but he votes Trump anyway. There's no road of logic to follow to meet in the middle with someone like that. Its all emotion.

Well, I wasn't expecting the result. I thought Brexit was the top, but hell was I wrong. Ready for Corbyn next PM here.

Edit: apologies if that will offend anyone or if it has been posted already

Edit 2: taking it down.

It's crazy how Trump publicly humiliated and embarrassed the two most powerful families in politics. The Bush family (Jeb!) and the Clintons.

He dragged their family names through the mud.

I mean, with the help of Wikileaks, alt-right, and Russia, sure, with 30 years of Republican fuckery to utilize. (and still looked like a damn fool in all 3 debates against a Clinton, and he's still gonna lose popular vote)

Aren't people already annoyed at voter ID laws?

Your idea sounds fantastic
- New Yorker: The Trump Campaign In North Carolina.
In 2013, the state legislature passed a law that imposed restrictions on the forms of identification that a voter could use and eliminated same-day registration. In July, a federal appeals court struck down the law for targeting African-Americans “with almost surgical precision,” returning North Carolina to its previous voting regulations.

Republicans took advantage of a provision in those rules for “at least one” early-voting site in each county, closing all but one in largely black communities. As a result, there were twenty-seven fewer early-polling places in the state than there were four years ago, when more than seven hundred and fifty thousand African-Americans voted early.

This year, according to the political scientist Michael McDonald, that number was down to about six hundred and ninety thousand, an almost nine-per-cent drop in participation. On Monday, in a press release titled “North Carolina Obama Coalition Crumbling,” the state Republican Party bragged about the success of their efforts, saying the black early voting was down and that “Causcasian” participation was up by more than twenty-two per cent from 2012.

I'm so fucking sad and pissed off right now. Well we are applying to jobs in California to get out of Florida, and then we are looking into immigration attorney's to leave the country. My wife is in hysterics and I have no idea how I am going to make it at work today. Lots of drinking this week....

Saddest thing for me is that the world can't afford 4-8 years of a president that doesn't believe global warming is real. It could be the nail in the coffin when it comes to hope of reducing CO2 emissions enough to limit warming to below 2C. It was a slim hope even with reasonable people like Obama/Clinton in charge.
Indeed. We're toast.

Here I was hoping I would wake up and the nightmare of a Trump presidency would be dead. Instead that nightmare will last a full four years at least, with the biggest clown of all presiding over our broken country. Here's hoping the US actually survives and doesn't become an absolute cesspool of social degradation and an economic wasteland.

My candidate for president brings former KKK leaders out of the woodworks and makes them feel confident enough to get into politics.

Not to mention legitimising neo-nazi groups all over.

BUT THIS ISN'T ABOUT RACISM! Supporting trump doesn't mean I support racism!

Increased public racism is just a coincidental circumstance of this election. Trump and my vote for him has nothing to do with it!!!!

Trump's first trip to the whitehouse to take office is going to be something else. If memory serves I think people threw eggs and rocks at Bush in '00.

I'm most looking forward to the presidential car ride between the outgoing and incoming presidents. Would be good popcorn viewing.

I started to respect her, but she needs to step down.

She's pretty much the only thing that keeps the right wing here from gaining substantial power. The conservative party would potentially lose a significant number of voters if she were not to run for chancellor next year. Can't afford that at all. She would do Germany and Europe a huge disservice if she stepped down right now.

The past ~16 months actually gained her some respect among many people she didn't cater to before.

Gay dude here. Thanks for helping to ensure that it's perfectly legal to discriminate against me in my workplace and future residences.

Our new VP, Mike Pence, supports the torture of gay people via conversion "therapy," so it's really cool that you helped to put him in power too. He's going to do a lot of good for my people, I'm sure.

So fucking sorry.

I know not everyone who supports Trump is a racist but Trump's comments about minorities just give these bigots more confidence to spread the hate.

As a Malaysian who's had to deal with Najib's shenanigans for almost a decade, all I can say is buckle your seatbelts and prepare for a ride.

White, black, yellow or brown, every one of ya'll are gonna get fucked sideways.

Not sure how I or people around me can get back to our lives. Trump has been powering hate and encouraging violence against people like me. The Trump rallies happened. The attacks happened. This shit isn't done. There is no uniting under Trump. The Trump rallies happened.

The only take away here is that shit is rotten in American. It's not safe for someone to be gay and/or not white.

Yep this is exactly why I will be living in utter fear every single day and I live in California. I can only imagine how fucked minorities and lgbt are in red states.

49% or 51% overall, does it matter? She's up against Donald fucking Trump.
Who has been emboldening racists and taking advantage of people whose jobs are never coming back.

It's difficult to defeat your opponent when they don't have to bother telling the truth. I genuinely don't even know if Bernie would've done any better. Maybe among whites but he had even lower enthusiasm from minorities.

People in these threads putting economic issues in front of social issues , really sums up the election and the types of people voting for Trump. "I've got mine, I don't care if you don't have yours". But also kind of infuriating also, because the democrats economic policy was a lot more sound than Trumps..... Mainly because it actually existed.

It sums up the entire world. The entire culture. Politics is economical, not social, in a capitalist world. (I'm not saying capitalism is bad, FYI.)

Seriously. She lost to one of the worst, most unlikable candidates in American political history. This should have been an absolute landslide for anyone and she blew it.

How exactly does she win over those white, rural voters that went big for Trump? What's your strategy here? also remember you're up against wikileaks/russia as well.

being racist is not a "point of view"
Tell that to the single parent who can only find part time jobs thanks to the ACA fucking it up for everyone.

Believing every Trump supporter is a racist is one of the reasons why they fucking won.

People had problems and like fucking clockwork were swept under the bus by the left.

Good job, guy. Real nice. Thanks for steeling people who could have been on our side had we a shred of understanding it's not just about racism or xenophobia.

Get the fuck out of that echo chamber, guy.

From what I can tell in Germany most scientists seem to assume we're past the point of no return anyway, if that makes you feel any better.

I's like to see a breakdown of the demographics. I'm watching the news here in Ireland and they are showing video of the Trump gatherings in the swing states as they announced he won. There seems to be plenty of black and hispanic people at them.
