I'm currently amassing an army in Limehouse, we're going to retake America from Americans. I got a small boat, anyone wanna volunteer?

- Washington Post: 2016 Election exit polls.

After Brexit and many other elections it should no longer come as a surprise that uneducated people vote very often against what is in their best interest. It always seems like they get swept up with the catchphrases, double speak and empty promises.

You're missing my point, this has nothing to do with Trump. This party that everyone said wouldn't exist any more had complete control of the government. They lost two other branches also, this has nothing to do with your hatred of Trump because it's bigger than that. Republicans aren't dying, they've been growing in power as people forecasted them as irrelevant.

Ditto.

Forecasters were all completely off base. We are not talking about being a few points off. Most had Hillary at 310+ electoral vote and winning the popular vote by at least 4 point. They totally underestimated the under-performance of the Democratic Party last night. They need to carry some of the blame as well as the media. They painted a picture that Hillary had this in the bag, instead of focusing on the very real dark alternative that we have all awoken to.

People act like he will run shit on his own... the people around him with political experience will guide him.

I would argue that most people/democrats were worried about SCOTUS and that he will directly have an impact on.

White men with college degrees were more likely to vote for Trump than those without? How the hell does that happen.

Your mistake is assuming that intelligence has anything to do with it. Some of the smartest people in history have been incrediby disgusting and bigoted. Having a college degree is irrelevant.

I know you guys hate the comparisons, but there's so much to parallel the brexit vote here.

Both involved me watching the polls open just before bedtime. Both involved said polls being shaky and leading to a night's worth of sleep depravation. Both involved a win for populism, which surfed in on a tsunami of lies and false promises.

Both times, the winners appeared to be genuinely shocked they won. Both involved reviled political figures getting their way - Farage, Johnson, Trump, Giuliani et al.

Next up, expect Trump or a close aide to break a high-profile promise in an interview. In Brexit's case it was 'oh, we don't really have the promised millions for the NHS that was just bullshit to get people to vote our way'. I reckon you'll be in for a lot of that over the coming months.

Also looking forward to Russia invading neighbouring countries again, and Trump asking for money when the US is reached out to for support.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Fuck this world. Fuck it.

The left worldwide really needs to take a long, hard look at itself. Shit just isn't working and we need to find a way to make it work. I once thought society was moving in the right direction but after the past few years I don't anymore.

It's total double speak. I mean it's very obvious she says she is willing to work with him as long as the values are upheld. Something that is questionable with Trump considering his campaign.

Yes, totally. This entire statement is calculated from start to finish. Again, Merkel is a clever girl.

Look up the college educated white men compared to non college educated.

College degree: 72% Trump
No college degree: 54% Trump

This has little to do with education.

Clever girl. Whilst politicians around her were openly criticizing Trump and hoping for Clinton, Merkel said absolutely nothing in that regard. She detests Trump but hasn't shown it one bit. Typical Merkel fashion. Stay flexible and don't show your cards early whenever you can.
Well, honestly, good on her. No sane head of a nation would do something like that. Burn bridges for what?

I honestly feel bad for her. She must feel crushed.

that probably doesn't even begin to describe how she feels

Hillary Clinton must feel like the most miserable person in this planet.

She waited decades for her one shot at being the president, the dream of being the first woman ever, the feeling that with the republicans choosing an asshole, her winning was guaranteed. All crushed, I really fear for hell well being, who do you deal with that.

if she couldn't win with Donald Trump as her opponent, then no way she'll ever win, there really is no hope for her. America doesn't want her, period.

sad

This is a very simplistic view. There are good reasons to go towards more conservatism when you get older when it comes to economics. Depending on your own financial situation.
True, like the fact that some people raise capital throughout their lives and want to protect it etc but I'm not really in a mood for nuances tbh

I think I'll be in hyperbole mode for a week

Gut reaction on GAF and the media in general will always head to the fact that Trump supporters are disgusting and got to fly their true colors for once. Not gonna say that isn't true, but Hillary's minority support was well off Obama's, and she couldn't even carry the predominantly blue white populations that he did. How can I be mad at one side who ran one of the shittiest campaigns of all time when the side I voted for couldn't even get their shit together to beat him?

I see a lot of GAF blaming white men for this, but they're a close second to the problem that the Dem party was just dumb.

It's flat out dangerous to just assume racism and sexism taking over America is why he won.

People are upset and pissed now, but eventually it's going to be worth diving in and seeing exactly what drove turnout for Trump and what suppressed it for Clinton.

While I'm absolutely not saying these aren't real issues in America today, I think there's more to the picture than that and we need to learn what before we try again.

I think we legitimately underestimated how sick of the Clinton machine the country is, even people in our own party. These are issues we can fix, but it requires looking past the easy racism/sexism answer sooner rather than later.

Can we admit the one good thing about a trump presidency is that Russia-us relations will be improved ?

It's literally the only positive I can get out of this

I dont know. I didn't support him.

I basically said blanket statements about his supporters and people who feel they are worse off thanks to big government are what steeled them towards Trump.

Don't go looking to eat your own when I warned you all months ago to take this shit seriously but was quickly shouted down as a loon because "lol Hillary has this lol"

A lot more was going on besides racism and xenophobia but the left had its head so far up its own ass they didn't see this coming.

This isn't a win BY the right, it's a loss FROM the left. The more people understand this the better off we will do in 2020.

Then this has nothing to do with actual policy and real people's pocketbooks though. You are basically conceding that this was about white cultural resentment and white identity (that's what having no real policy beyond naked racism means) against the librul establishment. I too believe that this was decisive, but we shouldn't whitewash this as "economic anxiety" if we care about the future of the nation. Truth seems much more important than political correctness, which in the real world translates to coddling white people. The lesson/quandary from this election is that America is a racist country and if you are the party of anti-racism where do you go from here?

With Trump, I feel like we'll be in hyperbole mode for the next 4 years unfortunately.

What's even more sad is the shit minorities are going to have to put up with now. She's a rich white lady that didn't get the job she wanted. Boo hoo.

That doesn't contradict what I said. The big mass always has lower education and it usually is in their best interest to not vote right. The right almost never care about social security and all the other stuff that would benefit the people that actually feel neglected.

If you are rich, white dude with high degree of education it's probably great to vote for Trump.

My main point was that a lot of the people that actually want change and might need it actually vote against their own interests.

I will not unite behind this man. Never will. YOU WILL NEVER HEAR ME SAY PRESIDENT TRUMP.

He ain't my President.

Chill with that. You sound like those unhinged tea partiers when Obama was elected.

He is your president. Your country elected him. Accept him until his term ends/we vote him out.

I just... couldn't sleep tonight. The prospect of knowing Trump is the new president of the US scares the shit out of me. Four years in which our planet will suffer even more than before. Sometimes I want to cry out of frustration knowing the stupidity of half of the US population picking somebody who doesn't give a damn about our planet.

Improved as in our government shrugs its shoulders whenever Russia does anything, and Russia does what it wants? Yeah.

Obama was not the worst person the democratic party has ever put out. I would say President Romney. I would say President McCain. I did say President Bush. But Trump? Nah.
