Sadly I doubt the dems will be in any condition to make positive change in 2 years. But I will try to be hopeful once this initial wave of incredible depression and shame rolls over me.
 
The most immediate effect of this outcome is that my optimism for America had been dealt a major blow. In 2008 I was finally old enough to vote, and I was swept up in Obama's positive platform. After growing up during the Bush years, Obama's '08 victory felt like such a huge step forward for this country. Every time I saw him speak over the last 8 years, he made me feel hopeful about the USA and its people. He was, as I was, convinced that Trump's negative campaign platform would never win, because "that's not the America I know," as he put it.

But it turns out Obama was wrong. Trump won. He won with a fear-mongering, Muslim/Latino scapegoating, doom-and-gloom platform. Apparently, this is the America we know. And that sucks. I hate that our country can be scared/angered into voting for someone, especially someone who showed zero class and constantly embarrassed himself (and our country) throughout his campaign. I look up to Obama; he and Michelle inspire me. I do not look up to Donald Trump. He is not a good person. I have never been more disappointed in my country.
 
I think our country's going to be more divided than ever at the end of Trump's presidency. Maybe next election will see the rise of an independent.

I don't deny this, but it's taking the good with the bad on social media. Benefit of the doubt should be given, however people should be wary of what they believe and re-tweet, as seen by the KKK image today and tons during the election. As should "news sites" more importantly. For some stuff they should at least be trying to fact check where possible.

Not everyone lies. At the same time as yes, people do lie. Benefit of the doubt should mostly be given though, as most people aren't total assholes to make up horrendous shit just for attention.

Yeah I don't mean these states will represent themselves to foreign countries or anything like that. These are still states that will pay federal taxes and whatnot. They will just raise their state taxes to support these internal social programs and share those costs together. For example, private insurance companies can still be there if they want, but most likely the state run universal healthcare program will be cheaper so the private companies might not be competitive in general healthcare insurance. They can probably still do well in more specialized insurance just like in Canada. Basically run their state governance like Canada, for example, and share the costs amongst alliance blue states.

Our responses were harsh so sorry, but I think you are inadvertantly minimizing the fact that rampant islamophobia is far more real than anti-trump hyperbole.

If the kid in question got the idea from his pro-hillary parents who were being overdramatic then I doubt he would have attacked my nephew the way he did. bigotry is a learned behavior. I talked to my sister and the kid got in trouble because he was verbally attacking my nephew, not warning him about shit his drama queen parents said.

Saying the racists won, while true, also ignores the real issues Clinton had as a candidate. The real issues the DNC had by propping her up and pushing so hard for her. If we just blame it all on the racists we're going to end up right back here next election.

if the Democrats want any sliver of hope they better be working non stop on trying to hold the seats that are up for election in 2018.. the Republicans are looking at a major win.

Equal levels of mudslinging that means nothing when American politics is so far apart. Nothing said is going to change party faithful. There are very few in the middle.
You've got the Democrats way over there, and you've got the Republicans way over there, and then you've got the 46% who don't give a shit about anything.

That's on PoliGAF as they not only shut down Trump supporters, but everyone who wasn't for Hillary. Especially Bernie supporters. Little discussion, lot of insulting and kicking down as PoliGAF had everything figured out for themselves.
 
I'm sure Maher is the most high he has ever been and smoked all his good shit. He got the best with California Recreational Use and of course the worse with Trump.

This is the US, I don't have to support anyone. He got elected, so what? Does that mean I have to start playing nice with him and his supporters? No, fuck that sort of shitty mentality.

I don't have to do the whole bullshit "wait and see" crap. I know he's gonna fuck up this country. The division between both political parties is clearer then ever.

Yup. I'm not a bigot, I'm not a xenophobe, I'm not homophobic. But yet I was called all those things by people because of my choice of candidate. My brother is gay. My mother is a minority. I technically am even though I look white. We all voted Trump. We had our reasons, hate was not one of them. It may have been for others, but not us. When people start making sweeping generalizations of groups, they can look just as ill informed and hateful as the people they are protesting.

I got called an idiot and banned from the PoliGAF discord channel when she lost because I started talking about what exactly went wrong instead of wallowing in pity. It's like a clique of people that do nothing but make fun of everyone outside of it because they're so much smarter than everyone else.

We need to be looking forward right now with some real introspection. It's ok to be bummed out but silencing opinions you don't agree with literally makes us no better than the other side.

Illegal Immigration and Obamacare.

I fell in that line where Obamacare was a BIG problem for my wife and I and we were put in some really shitty situations because of it. We make just enough to not qualify for cheaper healthcare but not enough to afford what was required.
