Protests against Trump in NYC and other cities

It takes a special breed of fuckwit to demonstrate against a free, democratic vote. We have them in the UK too and they still haven't shut up following Brexit.
It takes a even more special Breed of fuckwit to be against people using their right to protest. Democracy for you seems to only mean "everyone else , shut the fuck up now".

And I hope people never shut up about Brexit. You've fucked it up and deserve to be called out for it until the end of days. Already fucked the country beyond repair and Article 50 hasn't even been triggered yet.

It's infuriating to see the media's complete dissonance in pretending they didn't have anything to do with Trump getting elected. Absolutely no self-awareness, and they'll never point it out themselves. They think they had no role to play in this whole thing.

Yep, it's never their fault. Nevermind they spent a week on bullshit during early voting while ignoring Trump sexually assaulting 12 women.

And nothing happened. I'm tired of awareness, hashtags and protest that don't accomplish shit.

It made it so each candidate HAD to have a Wall Street Reform policy and platform to even have a chance this election. That SOMETHING, it's not NOTHING. But I agree that it wasn't enough, and that's NOT because Occupy happened its because Occupy didn't happen for a long enough time with direction.

And Occupy might be looked at now as a sort of training grounds for any new movement that might pop up from these protests. We've learned WHY Occupy didn't work, now we need to find a form of protest that DOES work.

Think a little bit more deeply about the implications of these protests. However tough it is to be optimistic about them.

The Civil Rights Movement and Protests took 12 YEARS before blacks got the laws and changes they wanted. Do you think in year 1 they said MEH we cant do anything.. or did they persevere and FORCE the establishment to give them what they wanted.

Got back from the NYC protest at Trump tower an hour ago. It was a mostly peaceful protest for the hour and a half I was there. Things did get a little hostile when the police forcibly pushed the crowd back, which caused "fuck the NYPD" chants to start while the crowd put their hands in the air. Things ultimately settled down about 15 minutes later.

This makes the left look like spoiled children that didn't get their way. Reinforcing the stereotypes we already have.

You are literally protesting democracy and the will of the public. I mean, I get it, and it sucks we're stuck with him for at least 4 years. But shit like this will guarantee a second term.
This. It's especially ironic considering how many were gloating about how Trump's fans would be protesting like crybabies if Hilary won.

But hey at least people are taking it better than Brexit where they were calling for specific groups of people to have their right to vote taken away.

I get not being happy. I've not been happy with many election results, but you have to respect the process and take the result like an adult.

Didn't accomplish shit on what metric? Doing away with it completely? No, unfortunately not, but lots more are aware of it and that's a big deal.

Yeah

It's like if candidates dont mention the protests directly then the protests didn't have any effect. When in reality the massive protests for blm helped bring awareness of systemic racism to many Americans who were oblivious about it before. It was enough that criminal justice reform and police reform were major topics of the debates.

And we haven't even gotten to the part where people who helped participate in blm or occupy wall street or what ever are in positions of power.

So the hostilites settled down but the protest continues on?

Hashtags have brought awareness which is helpful and something I was wrong about. Awareness only gets you so far though. People must act.

Seeing the bullet coming but not taking actions to avoid it in other words.

Thanks getting out there and letting your voice be heard!

I am taking the result like an adult. I've realized Trump will be the president and I'm using my voice to speak out against him and his horrid policies, words and actions :)
I'm baffled that people don't understand that protests can be about more than one thing.

these protests should evolve into a movement to get rid of the electoral college.

No. That's not the right message. Getting rid of the electoral college means that California and NY would decide the President of all the states in every election. The system exists for a reason.

The protests should evolve into a movement because the President elect is a dangerous fascist and was assisted in his election campaign by a foreign right wing power stealing information and publishing it to inference the vote in his favor. He should never, ever been allowed to become President.

You've got no idea what he's going to do. I don't even know he does. Right now, people are just protesting about losing. No rights have been taken away from anyone. Whats the end game here for the protesters?

We know what he said he's going to do and that's the rhetoric he was elected on. He blatantly talked about violating the constitution and has the house and the senate to back any of his crazy endeavors. So why on earth would anyone wait for him to start acting on it before exercising their right to be heard?

This is true and I have learned from it. Would obviously disagree, but they would have the right as long they were not being violent bigots.

And they should, because they're not monowhite monoliths.

The system exists because they made a failed attempt to keep the system out of the hands of those who just elected Trump. It never worked.

I think that's too on the button to make this look like just a movement about losing the election and being sore about it. Atleast, the movement will be easily countered if that's what the movement is about.

This movement needs to speak to the sorrows and pain felt by not just Democrats but Republicans alike. What did the Republicans want so dearly when voting for Trump? It wasn't racism it was ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT.

The biggest thing hurting Americans is that their power has been taken away and given to corporations. This should be a crusade against corruption and money in politics. It definitely should not be a movement that's not inclusive of Republicans.

Although to get Republicans to join in, we might need them to feel some more Trump pain before it happens.

The Twitter hashtag is literally cancer. Like holy shit people are now calling the protesters Bigots... For protesting a bigot. Like the mental gymnastics in play are just... This needs to be studied. Like holy shit all of those anti-protesters are missing the fucking point. It's about making a stand that we will not support an openly-racist, sexist, xenophobic president.

But no, like one twitter user said, they should go to North Korea.

What. The. Living. Fuck.

Sorry but the: "Stronger Together" is bullshit right now. What they want is for people to just submit and accept this. They want minorites to just let whatever terrible things Trump does happen to them.

Seeing the bullet coming but not taking actions to avoid it in other words.

Which is why it's so important that people continue to protest. And why its so important that people who aren't protesting understand WHY it's important that these protests continue.

Driving away the dissenting viewpoints is human nature man. Only hurts everyone in the end.

Today I got called hateful for saying I don't respect people who voted for someone who's going to strip rights away from people simply for being gay.

Lol

Yup. We truly have entered the darkest timeline. They say stronger together but now we know half the country doesn't want the other half. Sorry but there is no unity when it's clear half the country doesn't want minorites, LGBT, and such to even exist.

But no, the protesters are children! How dare they fear their rights will be taken away by a man who said he will take away their rights. Fucking people.

Honestly, these protests give me hope. To see that I'm not alone is reassuring and makes me more motivated to do my part the next go round. I'm sure it's the same for many others.

They're eventually going to end up with an exclusion zone of like a block around Trump Tower, aren't they? It'll be a literal towering fortress.

People wouldn't be saying that if they knew someone personally who was a minority or LGBT. Not to their face at least, I guarantee it.

I'm bi. My best friend from high school laughed at my concerns for the country going forward and reveled in my "liberal tears". Unfriended that fucker almost immediately, but there are some people that just seem to lack any empathy even when it's with people who they have/had close ties to.

Oh and 8 people who I was also formerly friends with liked his post.

Same. I recently moved to California from Florida, so i've been isolated because I don't know anyone here yet and it's been rough dealing with it alone. The pictures of the protests are incredible though and as you said, add some hope to the situation.

Dawg you are getting me heated right now. What the fuck else do you want LGBT people to do? They did everything they were supposed to and were told to fuck off. Now their pursuit of happiness is impeded and possibly their lives and identity. Stop that shit.

Yup. Revolutions and movements ONLY happen when all other avenues have been exhausted.

Yeah it's the empathy problem. My first mistake was assuming friends would be decent.

This notion that protesting is somehow "undemocratic" and something only "childish" people would do is so feaking backwards it's completely insane. You people are more worried about not having your perfect little illusion of peace disturbed than about the plight of other human beings.

Please take some time to understand your thoughts and realize you're neck-deep in this system's bullshit, so much that the opressors actually count on you to do their job for them in sabotaging civil movements you yourself could benefit from - you're reliable as fuck on those terms.

Probably have been seeing the wrong media but haven't they had been relentless in actually trying to make Trump look bad?
TV media? CNN basically pulled a strategy where they had Trump supporters on every segment to shout down Clinton supporters and take up all talking segments and was nothing but emails during g early voting. Fox News was all emails and Hillary is evil of course. MSNBC was trying to point things out, but nooone watches MSNBC.

They spent last week blasting an e-mail scandal with no substance and what ended up being, of course, nothing. They barely said shit about Trump. It was a trade by and disgrace.

Then at that point we are all doomed.

Remember, the 60s protest generation are the ones that fucked the entire financial system up for everyone else, and spent the entire economy on self-gratification (houses, cars, toys) thereby ensuring future generations come up to clean up their shit.

There is a fine line between being a legitimate protester and being a self-entitled narcissist who thinks your voice is more important than others. And if you give such types power, watch how quickly their ideals fall away.

Just saying.

True greed is a tempting force. Like to say have faith in human beings...

Haha, this is what I get for trying to be optimistic today

Facebook and other social media have given rise to an entire generation of self-entitled narcissists who believe that their opinion is much more important than the guy next door. The internet has also created large echo chambers, where - no matter your opinion - you can always find a rather large crowd, that agrees with you, which only serves to reinforce the narcissism.

The people rallying against the protesters are the equivalent of people who believe if you stop talking about racism and sexism that it will go away and then turn around do racist and sexist acts.

No respect for any of those speaking out against the protests.

Might be a little harsh but I can't deny that I feel the same way. Although my hope is that their stance is just a matter of a lack of education on the subject, and I try to say that as respectfully as I can.
