I kind of agree that hoping that Trump fails the country is perhaps a counterproductive thing to wish for. But for progressives, it's hard to imagine the scenario where Trump's objectives "succeed" in being good long term. And by that I just mean a couple of quick things like say business does thrive and jobs are created, at what cost will this come to the environment? Say repealing the ACA does bring my premiums down, at what cost will that come to people who needed the ACA to get affordable insurance coverage, or even just coverage at all? Say he does tighten domestic security down and there are no noteworthy acts of terror during his tenure, at what cost does that come to foreign residents of our country that aren't terrorists or "bad hombres"?
The election is over and the electorate has spoken, so all I can do is wait and see how things pan out. But as a middle class white guy, even though it's not hard for me to fathom my short-term, day-to-day quality of life possibly improving in some ways, it's incredibly difficult for me to imagine any long-term goals I agree with are going to be accomplished. High on the agenda is undoing acts Obama did that I agree with and appointing a hard-line conservative Supreme Court Justice. When this stuff happens, it's difficult to imagine it "not being all that bad."
