WHAT

Holy shit. So he may end up winning the popular vote.

Is that you in the avatar pic? If yes, then yes, you will be just fine.

Yes, that's me and please don't go down that road.

I'm well aware of white, male privilege.

I also know the burden and danger a Trump White House brings to virtually all racial, religious and sexual-identity demographics outside of my own.

I strongly believe that if Trump and his supporters want to "bring the fight" they will sorely lose as our country has been leaning social-progressive for years. Just like CA Prop 8 completely backfired and legalized gay marriage across the country.

I am a white straight male and I have been very careful to not say "everything is going to be alright".

Because it is not going to be alright for them. There are women who wear hijabs being attacked. It is NOT ALRIGHT.

It is going to be alright for me. But it is not going to be alright.

But that's kind of my point.

In the face of adversity, I believe this will pull people closer together. To look out for each other and fight back against injustice.

Thats good and noble and I hope so.

And maybe yes if you take a very long view, things will be alright.

But there are going to be people who suffer in the short term. Terribly.

I don't disagree with this and I never suggested everything is going to be hunky-dory.

Only that we would make it through to the other side and not to lose all hope.

Where are people getting this popular vote stuff. Is it the check mark on Trump's name? They've had that there since he won the election (at least on TV), I don't think it means they think he will win the popular vote ultimately.

They're still going through the last ~14m votes, and CNN is projecting that Trump will end up winning the popular vote.

If it was ever any clearer that your vote fucking matters, look at how close this is

We might be talking thousands of votes separating them, not millions. And in specific states/counties? Whew lad

im not from the US so I both dont wanna get too much to it and tinfoil hat myself

but this tuesday voting thing

that's on purpose right?

people who "dont have time to vote" are those that work all day they cause they're minorities or immigrants that get paid shit

right?

cause I was talking to a bud yesterday about all that and he basically said "man why dont they change the tuesday thing, why dont they make it obligatory or a non-work day"

and its impossible at this point to think that's not like that on purpose. they know who votes, they dont want everyone to vote

shit's beyond fucked

She got 313,000 MORE votes than Trump, and still lost.

Thanks Electoral College...

That's 2 Electoral College Fuck-ups in less than 20 years.

Millions of votes still be to counted. She may end up losing the popular vote as well.

The Electoral College isn't really a problem, but in close elections like this, its flaws become very apparent.

I'd be happy to see it reformed but it's not gonna' happen.

i have heard that more votes are being counted from areas that are Republican so in a few hours or a few days that argument might no longer be valid.

the rumblings about it started early this morning.

On a Tuesday because Sunday is church day. I think because farms as well. Not really sure.

Considering how close the popular vote is, the issue isn't with the electoral vote.

The issue was with Hillary Clinton being a weak candidate. (I voted for Hillary)

oh yeah I know the reason

but it's dated and useless

i'd have to guess they dont change it cause neither party wants more voters despite what they say

rich white people are more likely to have time to vote on tuesdays..

Never thought there would be a day I'd be saying that I truly hope Reince Priebus becomes Chief of Staff, but here we are.

Literally a minute ago at work we were talking about AG Rudy and I said

"I can't imagine that I am actually saying this in the real world, but maybe we'll luck out and get Christie."

If there is an upside to this catastrofuck of an election it's that Trump's ass is now on the hotplate. All eyes are on him now and everything he does will be heavily scrutinized. Before, he wasn't taken seriously, but the consequences are real for him now.

I doubt this will be a scandal free administration, I hope there is enough to keep him from doing real harm.

Just too bad the dems lost so fucking completely.

as someone from latin america im not as worried about Trump specifically as I am about just the world in general suddenly taking a fuckin hard Right turn, and what his victory means for that

France and Italy probably to follow...

it's pretty crazy. Lot of progress previous generations worked hard for us to enjoy halted or even set back.

after Venezuela, fuckin Macri's Argentina now..

boy.

Ha, I was also having a conversation yesterday about Christie being better than Rudy for AG.

Wait, but I booked my vacation to Rome on Election Day

no
No

Trump you can't come with me

I hate creating new threads, so I'll ask here. Does this prove that poll numbers are meaningless? I thought every poll was so against his favor and it was looking like a walk in the park for Hillary, something I never believed to be honest. The election comes around and Trump takes the lead and then runs off with it, going against what a ton of popular polls read like. I'm pretty ignorant to all of this, so I'll just ask. Are polls complete shit like I thought?

I was having a conversation with my friend where he said Obama wasn't getting a lot done and a Trump Presidency is going to be good, And I'm trying to explain to him about then Republican obstructionism and he doesn't really believe me that it happened. Anyone know of any good articles explaining this? I am trying to find good stuff to explain my argument that is from reputable news sources

Don't bother. All media is a lie remember.

Did anyone notice that Trump barely seemed happy when holding his winning speech? In fact he seemed quite troubled. So did Melania. The atmosphere was quite weird.

I think this was the perfect example of silent voters - people who were shy Trump supporters that did not want to express it verbally but through their actual vote.

Hasn't Nate been largely wrong this election cycle? I see no reason to trust him over CNN.

Well, besides *this*.

He's been the most right, imo, other than dismissing Trump during the Summer of 2015 (changed by the end of the year).

538 also had Trump the highest odds of winning of any of the major modeling sites, with the exact explanation of what happened (a normal 2-percent error against her would leave her shockingly vulnerable to losing the EC)

I think it's a bit more nuanced than that they are totally good or bad. The problem in this election seems to have been in the modeling aspect, that is, the polls did not seem to on the whole correctly model the electorate, relying too much on the 2012 demographics. I think going forward people obviously will be a lot more wary (and rightly so) of polls, but hopefully pollsters will work on better modeling to make them more informative to some extent. But there is always a margin of error.
