"Streamer" "shows off" "Nintendo Switch" live on stream.

What he has looks like it is well and above that. That had to take lots of time to make.

This is where I'm at. trying to 3D print things as small as the + and - button on this unit is a near impossible task. I work with this stuff every day.

Again, not saying it's necessarily real, just saying it's way more involved than this magical world of "aw yeah this is probably 3D Printed".

My guess is that he got his hands on a replica that was used to shoot the Nintendo Switch ad. Looks real enough, but not believing it after the 3D print fake.

Etika posted this on Twitter a few days ago. The tweet is gone but I saved this:

That's too good to be 3D printed. Maybe he got hold of the version used for the trailer/promo? Weren't those just empty shells?

The font and size of the letters on the buttons are abysmal. Clearly VERY fake, not even close lol

Yes, focus on the letters and not the fact that the joycons mechanically slide and connect to the grip.

If this was faked, why would the letters be so off compared to the promotional material that's already out there, yet the faker spent enough time and effort to make the joycons mechanically functional?

The major difference with this is that he actually slid the joycons onto the grip, and they were held there.

I'm telling you guys this isn't a fake. It's likely a prop for promotional purposes.

I mean, even if it was some prop, it's not a working unit, which means for all intents and purposes, it's a "fake".

Etika is showing it off like it's the real deal. People in this thread were debating whether it was the real device or not. Promotional "dummy" model wouldn't change the fact that it's essentially a hunk of plastic whether Nintendo actually made it or not.

The colour of the controller's also look off to me, the controller's have a Blue-black tone vs the rest of the unit (and what was shown in the trailer) which is plain black.

You don't think the artist could easily print some tracks on the pieces? That's probably way easier than nailing the font and centering it properly

Welp, at least he gets a preview at what it'd be like, roughly, to hold a real one in your hands, which is actually pretty neat.

I mean, it's fake af but if we want to nitpick then just look at the home button being white instead of the same color as the joycons

There's a 0% chance they'd go through the effort to create the dock, the placemat, and the sliding JoyCon controller if it was just a fake. They even put all the LED's in the right spots. It's either a dummy unit from Nintendo used as a prop or a dev unit without the polish of a consumer-grade one.

In the video/tweet video, I'd have said "real", as in like one of the display models used in the video or something but seeing the picture of the close up where it looks like you can see the 3D printed bits and the ABXY letters are too bold I'm going to say fake.

Either way, it's definitely not a real Switch and definitely doesn't work.

Oh, I don't disagree there. I think it's worthwhile though to determine if this is a real prop/dummy unit or a faked 3D print, as the former would indicate that he must have gotten it from someone or somewhere official.

I don't have experience with 3D printing, but no, I don't think that would be easy at all. Especially if you look at the way he slides the joycons on... it seems like there is a "click," or at least some force needed to snap it in.

Though like I said, I have no experience with 3D printing. I'm downgrading my #TeamDummyUnit to #Team70%DummyUnit.

man people waste their time on shit, almost as bad as arguing over it on a video game forum.

#teamfake

You do realize Dev Kits often look nothing like production right? Not saying this is real at all, but it is ENTIRELY possible that he got his hands on a dev kit that just so happens to look different from what we have seen in a promotional video... Just remember those words... PROMOTIONAL VIDEO.

You'd be suprised what people will do for internet fame. It's fake.

Man, maybe I am naive, but thinking about the amount of CAD work that would have to go into 3D printing a model of at least five separate components (all from photos) and getting all the little components to fit together and maintain the little details like the +/-, LED slots, plus the smooth logo on the dock vs. the rough finish, if it's not real, it's a very expensive fake.

I'm with you there. Why would anyone spend so much time on all of those details but screw up the button font? That makes no sense whatsoever.

People donate hundreds of dollars to to see him say their name in the chat lol. It's a fake made by one of his subs.

The first 90% is relatively easy. It's that final 10% of polish that's the bitch.

We've seen tons of fakes similar to this that get most of the way there, but miss something seemingly obvious

ITT: People who don't know Etika talk shit about his character.

If it's fake, it's not for fame. He's already got a following. Why else would this be on a stream? He's goofy as hell and probably just wants to troll.

Isn't font one of the easiest things to get right though? I guess this could be fake, but it just seems like such a weird mistake when all of the other details are seemingly correct (or at least very close).

You guys are talking me down to 62% convinced it's a real dummy though.

Wait...

Now the thing must be true because it looks too much fake? C'mon now, guys...

No, all of the difficult, intricate details appear correct or at least close to correct, yet the letter font is clearly not the same as the promotional material. That's a very odd thing to make a mistake on. It could very well be an older promotional model from several months ago.

PLOT TWIST: Etika's Switch is real, and is what the production Switch will actually look like. The version of the Switch shown in the reveal trailer was an unusually nice facsimile made with a more expensive production process, like the original Amiibos Nintendo showed. The Switch will look like shit and Nintendo is DOOMED.

If this is proven fake then what was the point? This will just ruin his reputation.

Youtube streamers don't have "reputations." They have things like "gimmicks," "schticks," and "fans." They aren't journalists. They can secretly run morally bankrupt gambling websites that prey on children and lie about it, and still rake in millions of views the next day. They have no need for something as highbrow as a "reputation."

The previous 3D printed NX fake that made GAF explode earlier this year had obvious flaws that gave it away too. For starters, the screen appeared to be turned on in the photo, yet it was casting no light on the buttons around it.

But every time someone brought up the flaws, they were ignored. NX hype was too strong, people wanted to believe it was real, to hell with evidence and reason.

You're really onto something here, IMO. The font on the official Nintendo Switch buttons looks EXACTLY like the ABXY buttons on my New 3DS XL. They could have made it a carbon copy buy just using that already very accessible design.

Not sure if it's 3D printed but it's clearly fake.

Also I've never heard of this dude before but he seems like a maniac. Can anyone that regularly watches his streams tell me if he's always like that? Jumping around in his underwear screaming and shit, wtf.

basically. he's a great guy, dude works hard, who are we to judge if he's getting amped on stream

On the other hand, it's one of the things that wouldn't be on an official/leaked specification sheet, making it one of the easiest things to get wrong when making a copy
