Spencer: Scorpio targets requirements of high-end costumers - means a higher price

From gamepur.com

Spencer - again - hints Xbox Scorpio is a premium console addressing requirements from high-end customers, will have "higher price" because of that, at least more than Xbox One S.

"Scorpio will be a premium console. It will cost more than S, obviously, this is how we are building it up. We have not announced the pricing yet, but want to make sure that the investment we are making in the product of Scorpio goes hand in hand with the requirement of high-end consumer and that means a higher price," said Spencer, adding that "There is not a single product you see and say 'this is the product that defines how you are doing in the market'. It really is the repertoire of all products with prices and when we think of Scorpio it is for a high-end consumer who demands the maximum of a console, and the console built to meet that demand."

EDIT

Apparently Phil made this comment as a reply to Michael Pachter who stated that...

it would be a "Suicide" from Microsoft if Xbox Scorpio is priced more than $399.

Make me buy an overprized NES from ebay if old.

I'm not saying it'll be 599 US DOLLARS, but if they do choose that, the memes alone will kill it.

It's interesting that he clearly states they want to go for the high-end customers. Which the PS4 Pro apparently doesn't, given the compromises they had to make to get to that $399 price tag.

Expected.

Hopefully they'll know how to market it in a way that doesn't appeal solely to the "hardcore" users. While those are plenty, no console can ever survive on just them.

So their main player base of obnoxious teens and pre teens yelling sexual and racial abuse will be effectively eliminated in one fell swoop.

$449 base model then bigger storage for ouch, $500-$600.

On the other hand they could be bluffing and go $399.

6TF now sounds extreme for a console, how can they keep the price down but you say the same about a 4TF PS4 Pro a year before. We are a year out so it may not be that big a deal considering what PCs are pushing now and next year.

Sorry to labour the point but assuming it is £500, why wouldn't you spend £700-800 on a PC that's fully modular and has cheaper games. At this rate, Halo 6 could be the only exclusive the xbox has.

They really should just make it a new console generation with exclusives in tow and full BC. At the time it releases it will be year 4 of Xbox One. I would probably just hold it back until fall 2018. It will be even more powerful and hopefully cost would have come down.

If you are into Microsoft Studio Multiplayer games, PC is not really an option. Ask people playing Gears 4 on PC. They are begging to be let into the console community, where the player base is ridiculously larger.

$499 seems like the lowest possible price. Totally fine with that.

I don't want a PC, that's why.

If they go above $399 they really do not know the market and it will fail until they drop the price.

People aren't willing to drop that much on a console...Also, the PS4 pro will likely have a significant price drop at the scorpios launch.

I will get one...when the price is right.

499 $/€ probably, which is fine seeing the specs. If they are in a really bad spot maybe a short time for 450 €/$. Only can see 399 $/€ on launch if Sony is very aggressive with the PS4 Pro price at that time.

I think they would be pretty stupid to go the Surface price route with this unless it is actually a full PC with a console overlay.

You know how Panos says he wants to create a new category with Surface products, what if Scorpio is the Surface PC for the living room?

Hopefully this means they won't skimp on the CPU. I am willing to drop good money on Scorpio if they can show me why its worth my cash. The BC stuff will be great to see advance but I am looking forward to what MS do. I want them to start getting those Play Anywhere exclusives.
