Pokémon Sun & Moon |OT| Ultra Beasts and where to find them

I'm pissed. 3 hours down the drain.

Went to that social area castle thing. Game said it was connecting to the internet and that it was saving. I knew it wouldn't be able to connect because I didn't enter any WiFi settings for my area. Waited for the process to end, assumed it had saved like it said it had, left the game to open up the settings to connect to the WiFi, connected, opened up the game again, and it started me off from the beginning again.

I almost don't want to play the game now. The start is so damn boring and handholdy. Can't believe there's no dialogue question that's like, "have you played a Pokémon game before?", and skips the first 3 hours of the game.

Fuuuuuuuuck

I'm so mad I wasn't able to catch that Chikorita. I fucking hate Pokemon's stupid BULL SHIT "let's interrupt you so we can make you fight four stupid fucking preschoolers because we told you like 4 times about potions but let's tell you again" garbage.

I read the serebii text on Zygarde, I still have no idea how its forms work. lol

Can change between 10% and 50% Forme in Route 16 when you have the sufficient amount of cells

When all cells, you can then construct them into a Power Construct Zygarde. Change forms with the Zygarde Cube. When their HP is 50% or less, it turns into Complete Forme

5 minutes with Team Skull and I already love them. They really are a bunch of wannabe baddies.
They show up and Ilima just keeps talking to you like nothing happened.

That's horrible to hear and the second post I've seen here about that. :( I've lost those kinds of things in other games due to battery charge running out during saving.

I wonder if the Japanese version says it is saving because some of the text seems to have writing issues e.g. for a while people thought Unaware had been nerfed but turns out it only has a misleading description and also the Water Bubble ability does not mention a key part of it spoilers
(doubles power of water type moves which allows Araquanid to put in serious work despite not great offensive stats of 70/50 Atk/SpA)
.

Anyway the not saving is a bloody odd design decision as I'm sure it didn't work like that in the previous gen. I wonder if you deposited a Pokemon into GTS or done a wonder trade it would have properly saved (if it does not that is basically a free cloning exploit which seems like a big oversight).

So either I flat out don't understand the mechanics for Call for Help or I've had the most unfortunate rolls of the dice ever.

I beat the first challenge and went to try to catch a Zubat... AND FOR SOME GOD DAMN REASON I GOT STUCK IN A GIANT LOOP OF CALLING FOR HELP

ELEVEN.

I HAD TO FIGHT ELEVEN FREAKING ZUBATS IN ONE FIGHT. I JUST WANTED TO CATCH MY LEAST FAVORITE GEN 1 POKEMON. I HATE EVERYTHING.

I hate the Call for Help mechanic.

Current team, 40 hours in:

ONE POKEMON IS A SPOILER FROM POST-GAME
Greninja, Raichu, Tapu Koko, Marowak,
Silvally
, Zygarde 50%.

So either I flat out don't understand the mechanics for Call for Help or I've had the most unfortunate rolls of the dice ever.

It's easy: If the enemy Pokemon is 50% hp or less he will try to call an ally, ususally it's like a 60% chance an ally appears.

I've heard people say Pokemon under status can't call for help. I can see that working for sleep. So basically it sounds like a sleeping move is going to be a must for capturing (then you have the RNG of getting 1 turn sleep and unreliable accuracy of most sleep moves).

I also heard of someone who blacked out trying to capture Caterpie due to the mechanic which is just hilarious.

Wait...catch a Chikorita??

So I'm freaking loving this so far. Last Pokemon was X and Y & that only held my interest for 20 or so hours.

Question:

How much of a benefit does Streetpass bring to this over just using the internet features?

Thanks. But can you have more than one Zygarde? I don't really get the whole assembling and disassembling thing.

So, since everytime a Pokemon used Echoed Voice my game crashed, I tried the repair software option in the eShop.

Does anyone know if that option redownloads the entire game? It's taking quite a while even though for some reason it said it just had to download 8 blocks :P I just want to be comforted and really really don't want to play through the beginning of the game again =X

I'm about 5 or 6 hours in, and liking Moon so far. Characters look nice, and it's good that it's not grid-based anymore. That said, there are several decisions I can't understand, like removing the main menu buttons from the bottom screen. Having to press X to open the fullscreen menu (which pauses the game) feels as outdated as Platinum did when I played it after Alpha Sapphire. But that one made sense, as it was the first gen released on a console with a touch screen, and even then it had some apps and gimmicks. There is simply no excuse for what they did here. Rotom Dex is cute, and reading his comments is fun, but it's unnecessary and seems like a bad joke compared to ORAS' PokeNav.

Speaking of that, why was DexNav removed? It was one of the best things in the previous titles, and I found it incredibly useful. Same deal with PSS, it showed your friends and random people around the world who were in the same area as you at all times (outside of battles), and interacting with them was as easy as pressing their avatar. Here you have to access Festival Plaza from the menu, wait until you are transported to that ridiculous place (which is quick, to be fair), connect to the internet and only then you can start looking at other online players. Forget about getting invites while you are playing the game normally. And it disconnects automatically once you go back to the main game, so you have to connect every time you wanna do something. Game Freak took a feature that was already perfect in gen 6 and turned it into a painful process that makes me not give a damn about the online capabilities anymore. It no longer feels like I'm on a living world with other real people, which was something great about XY. This is more similar to the old games, where you had to stop everything that you were doing, run to the Pokemon Center for the multiplayer stuff and then go back to where you were before.

Other things are minor nitpicks, like doors not opening automatically or not being able to sit on chairs, but coupled with the previous things make gen 7 feel like a regression instead of an evolution. I still think these are great games and know I'll have a lot of fun, but it's so annoying that they removed good stuff just because.

This is my biggest complain so far, and honestly once the honeymoon period ends I think people will put this iteration below X Y. So many baffling missing stuff.

Yes, you can.

Basically you collect cells and cores and then essentially spend them on creating a Zygarde. It's possible to have multiple Zygardes at once, depending on how much you have e.g. I used 10 to create a 10% form and the rest for 50%. You can disassemble them to retrieve the cells/cores to create another (possibly stronger) Zygarde. Disassembly destroys the Pokemon, and assembly always generates a new one with fresh stats.

Cool, thanks. Interesting mechanic.

it's very clearly a nose

Just got up to the first Team Skull encounter. LMAO. I hope they stay as nonsensical and over the top as possible unlike Team Flare who went from comedic to serious for no reason.

As for first impressions otherwise:
-Loading times in and out of battles are awful.
-Whyyyyyy don't trainers have losing animations and why can't they transition from their action pose into throwing a ball without having to reload the scene? Looks so awkward.
-Alolan variants of pokemon have zero explanation thus far, kind of threw me off guard to see them so early on.
-Game has a real chill vibe.
-Music direction is obviously completely different from past gens, so far I'm mixed on it.
-Lillie is cute.
-Gen 7 rendition of the main theme is a nice return to form after gen 6's sounding so bad. Not HGSS/BW tier, but good enough.
-It angers me to see pokemon walking around in the streets but I'm still not able to have my lead pokemon follow me in the overworld. :(
-I wish I could disable Rotom
-Pokemon Sun and Moon has the Twilight Princess of Pokemon intros.

How is the game without the gym's do they feel missed?
Eh, sorta. I think gyms had more interesting puzzles/challenges than the trials, personally.

Weirdly, there appear to be eight vacant/construction lots throughout Alola (also seen in artwork), but nobody in the game acknowledges them or what their purpose is. For that reason I don't think it's just a flavour thing, like the frontier model in ORAS. Hopefully DLC.

I need to know how and when can I get Happiny/Chansey?

Currently I'm at the following:

I just finished the training school by beating the four trainers and the teacher.

My game has been out for delivery all day, I was expecting it to be home by the time I got home from work, but I'm heading out in 15 minutes. I have to be at a birthday celebration at 8, so I was going to have about an hour or two to play between getting home and going.

If UPS fucks me on this...

I really can't wrap my head around it. It was perfect in gen 6. I seriously would have been happy if GF copied the PSS exactly the same, can't think of any flaw (well, maybe disconnecting when you press the Home button or put the 3DS in sleep mode, but I could live with that). This new system is absurd, it puts a huge barrier between single and multiplayer modes, and therefore killed the random battle and trade requests that used to happen in XY and ORAS. What a shame.

Damn have some of you played this nonstop since release or something? Seems like some of you are very far along

Edit:

40 hours? Didn't this just come out less than 24 hours ago?

Early cart, they broke street date in here. I'm one of the survivors of the ban wave since I never connected into internet like all the people with early carts and illegal stuff that got banned.

Still at work, but when I get home I'm def looking for Pokerus.

Your choice of any starter if you can supply it for me!

I'll see y'all round 9:30 est
