iOS 10 is a total disgrace

The new drop down that pops up when the alarm goes off is terrible on my 6se. It's co platelet unresponsive and I have to it/swipe/smooth my screen like 6 times.

damn that's exactly what i've been looking for. are there any free alternatives?

edit: search comes up with

ecoute for 99c
music is free but need to test it out first

Ecoute is what I used before Cesium. I really disliked the UI for switching between sections (artists, albums, genres etc.). And I believe there was some other annoying issue, though I can't remember what it was. Either way, they're teasing the next major version on Twitter, so you might want to wait for that. Might be a paid upgrade.

Anther vote for Cesium. It seemed a bit slow to me though on my iPhone 6 Plus with a very large library, but it opens and works flawlessly on my iPhone 7 Plus, so I'm guessing it is subject to the hardware a bit more than the stock Music app.

Isn't that like saying "If you have problems on Windows, try formatting C without backing up anything."?
That just further proves my original point. No way Jobs would have let that be acceptable solution for the user. Apple made its name off of working flawlessly for less tech savvy people.

Apple devices had all sorts of problems under Jobs that people have forgotten about, and restoring not from backup was a widespread solution to any general funkiness after updating an iOS device.

One issue I can remember off the top of my head was the iPhone 3GS dropping calls after a software update.

Google any other SJ-era software release and you'll find serious problems. Such as data loss when moving files between drives, first on Panther, then on Leopard http://www.macintouch.com/leopard/movebug.html

'Software quality has really nose-dived under Steve Jobs! Bring back John Sculley'

Isn't that like saying "If you have problems on Windows, try formatting C without backing up anything."?

No, because your contacts, photos, mail, documents, safari bookmarks etc can still be restored easily by logging into iCloud.

I wanna know why the fuck I have to swipe up and then left to get to AirPlay controls if I want to fling a video to my TV. How fucking stupid.

I don't think it's that bad overall but the autocorrect is trash now. Everyone I have talked to hates it.

The number of times my phone really thought I was saying just "o" instead of "I" is maddening.

in my experience it functions correctly but the usability is terrible. some things you can swipe, some you tap, some you force touch but it's not explained anywhere. Mess

The hyperbole people use when complaining about their phones is insane.

For how I work the ability to take and calls and send texts on my computer was a game changer.

Siri is horrible on my cars BT but serviceable if I do it on my phone or watch. Can't blame Apple for that because any voice service sucks on my BT. It is just not very clear.

Couldn't roll that shit back fast enough. Doubling up on an Android phone has been quite nice, probably going to switch over all the way soon.

Experienced most of the things mentioned, most annoying right now is the battery problems; anywhere below 40% and it'll randomly shutdown, i can turn it on but it just shuts down again, only plugging it in even for a few seconds and its fine to use again; haven't noticed any particular apps that set it off; the same thing is happening to my sisters iPhone, we're both on 6S, she's 16GB and i have 64GB, i have the samsung chipset, i'm not sure of my sisters

internet said it could be something to do with the cold weather or battery issues the same as the 5S had but i've only noticed it since iOS10, the phone was perfect before then

well relatively perfect, i enjoyed the stability of the OS compared to running android 5.0 or 6.0 on Nexus 5 before it, against the nexus 5 the battery on the iphone seemed amazing, not that it lasted ages but i could rely on it, i knew how long i would have if it said 87% or 33% or 5% and even when it got down to single digits with battery saver it could go for a longer time than anticipated, i would frequently get through a day and a half or two days with it, now i seem to have to charge it numerous times throughout the day

iOS 9 seemed nice in a lot of ways but was missing so much compared to android, stuff i still wish i could do, but for a while the trade off was worth it or i could ignore it, was looking forward to the notifications and things that iOS 10 promised but they're just as useless to me as they were before, as is today view, turned off siri too, just a lot of hassle honestly, maybe i just don't use my phone for much

it's my first iPhone and i think my last, yes the OS and apps are generally more stable than android but i can get a far cheaper phone with the same amount of problems, its too expensive for what its worth plus i'm sick of apple roping me into the ecosystem - everything else i use frequently are platform agnostic like spotify and google apps

as a side note i would agree i believe apple have lost their way; that video of Jobs on Xerox is particularly enlightening; i was looking to get a new MacBook next year to replace my 2007 white plastic MacBook that i've been using since then (in a reduced capacity as i mostly use a 2011 iMac which is also still going fine) but the new MacBooks are just way too expensive for what you get and macOS is getting too 'feature packed' but Sierra seems to be fine on the iMac so far; although thanks to Brexit any of their products are way out of my price range; for portability in the meantime i got a cheap windows tablet-top by Linx and windows still sucks out loud (again, was fine before they pushed some wreckage update).

they could use a break with the yearly updates, just chill and bring us out a good sweep through update like Snow Leopard that stabilises everything on mac and iphone

sorry for the rant, was going to make a thread about iPhone problems because i wasn't sure i got a bad phone or if iOS was just overhyped all these years and had the same exact problems android had

I've been using a S7 edge for the weekend after returning my 7 plus and I'm really enjoying android.
I see why people prefer the android notification system it's so much better than iOS 10.
Plus this S7 edge was half the price of my 7 Plus.
Also the this smiled screen is fantastic.

I'm probably gonna go Android for my next phone. I haven't been happy at all with my work iPhone 6+ from the garbage performance, to the touch disease bullshit to how bad notifications have gotten because my phone doesn't have 3D Touch.

Also, every time I play with an S7 Edge (which has the same size screen) it makes me wish the 6+ wasn't such an ugly, unwieldy surfboard ass looking phone.

Edit: on that issue with the phone shutting down randomly - like half my friends who have 6S' have that issue where their phone shuts down at 20% or whatever lol. Doesn't happen on my 6+ though.

I really cant believe how bad it is. Freezing, crashing, the most obnoxious development is that autocorrect is completely broken for me and typing has become a total chore. Im really amazed how far things have fallen. Quality used to be a gold standard for apple stuff. Jobs is rolling in his grave.

I have only suffered a couple of these - notably ridiculous battery drain since the last update and the autocorrect and typing has always been horrific, but is now amazingly worse. I think it's made by the itunes team. Basically it is absolutely not interested in user intent.

Can you somehow text on iOS with your windows computer?

Any one else on a 5s? I know I'm probably going to get forced into updating eventually (or just get tired of dismissing the update request every night) and I want to know what to be prepared for .
It was pretty bad on my 5s. Lots of app reloading.

On 7 plus it's been pretty damn good. I don't know why control panel was split into two panes, and I don't like the iMessage feature that forces the app into hand drawn messages when the phone is turned sideways. But it's fast, 3D Touch is utilized a little better than on iOS 9, and I've had less bugs than on iOS 9. The only obvious glitch I've seen was after an iMessage crash, my keyboard remained on the screen and obscured half the display. I had to restart the phone.

No problems with iOS 10 here, outside of the slowly increasing complexity of iOS and iOS 10 making Messages incredibly tacky.

What I think a lot of people are missing is that iOS 10's UX changes are in preparation for next year's home button-less iPhone.

I just want open access to my files, and backwards compatibility. Why isn't my phone as capable as my computer?

I'm going to be really interested to see what Apple does with macOS 10.13 and iOS 11 after such a light on (visible) features release with iOS 10 and Sierra. Hopefully most of the development doesn't get sucked into updating the UX for the new bezel-less iPhone.

It's been fine on my 5s. Pretty stable for the most part, battery life is ok. It's very similar to the SE which is pretty new so they kind of have to make it run pretty well on there, and I think it does so. If you're on a 5 or 5C i've heard it's rough though. I don't have a lot of complaints about the 5s on ios10 performance wise, you shouldn't be too worried about updating it.

I have my complaints but overall it's easily one of the best pieces of software I use, even on a 5S. I'm pretty happy with it. Obviously it could be better, but I'm a bit over the whole phone update thing now, from both a hardware and software perspective.

It is the worst. My friends and family are constantly voicing their frustrations.
I've only owned iPhones and am not meaning to be dramatic but this is the first time I have seriously considered switching to Android. It is the worst iOS of all time.

Something with the update fucked my battery. Used to regularly make it through more than an entire day on a charge, now it's half that at best.

My least favorite iOS update so far. Increased garishness, downgraded usability, and iffy performance.

Put me with the individual's mom who has never complained so much about her phone.

There are general annoyances, the one with safari showing up old pages in the preview before selecting them is one of my little peeves, but still not too bad.

The other day I had a bug that actually nullified every input from all the buttons on the device. Home, volume, switch, and the lock button were not working. I seriously thought my phone flat-out broke for a second, only the screen was working (ironically, if it weren't for the lift-to-wake feature, I wouldn't be able to make the phone work at all). Despite that, somehow a hard reset still turned off the phone. Weirdest thing, but it was a pretty messed up glitch.

Phone just did it again! Shut itself off with 4% battery. I plugged it in, left it alone for 5 minutes, came back and it was at 18%! Now I'm letting it drain again, it dropped down to 8% after a couple minutes and now it's been playing a show off Hulu at 1% remaining for almost 20 minutes. The % remaining is just totally unreliable, no idea how to fix it. I just did a backup/restore the other day and it doesn't seem to have solved anything.

Made the mistake of upgrading on my 5c. It's a nightmare. It's so slow and everything takes forever to load now. What's crazy is it wasn't that bad the first few days but has progressively gotten worse. Using my phone is an exercise in frustration now.

You are aware that you can roll back to iOS 9? It takes a bit of doing, but it's not rocket science.

I don't like the way they removed swipe to unlock,I don't like the new notification screen and I don't like the way the control panel thing (swipe up) now has a separate page for music controls. So yeah, iOS 10 is annoying but I don't think it's an absolute failure or anything.

The split screen feature only shines on one of those big screen iPad Pros.

The swipe up control panel is terrible. The whole point of the co trol panel is everything in one place. The background app is unusable so you have the whole screen to use. Swiping to get to music controls is simple retarded, totally counter intuitive and adds an extra step where none should exist.

Also, my iPad fingerprint unlocking is bizarre. Used to unlock immediately, now sometimes it asks me to press the home button AGAIN to unlock. Why!?

iOS 10 on my iPhone is a bit of a gremlin. Some days it's fine, other days it's a night mare. Some of the annoyances I run into:

  • Notifications freezing on swipe down, especially iMessage
  • Swiping to camera from lock screen resulting in a gray square
  • Random app crashes
  • Spotlight working half the time
  • Lockscreen looking DUMB on my iPad
  • Control Center being borderline useless, so much wasted space

Its not a literal expression you know. Its a fact that Apple is much different since he's been gone and I think it's fair to say he would not approve of their current direction.

I don't think anyone can speak to what Jobs would be thinking. The playing field has changed A LOT from when he was still calling the shots.

I keep getting one email that won't fucking delete. It deletes it from the server (Outlook.com) but then keeps reappearing and won't let me delete it again - just says "unable to move item". I can fix it by removing the email account and re-adding, but then it'll just do it again.

Also who the fuck authored - no scratch that - who the fuck authorised the new email thread arrangement? I'm glad you can dig around and turn it off because it's illogical and unusable.
