iOS 10 is a total disgrace

I haven't had many issues. The thing that annoys me is swiping at the lock screen doesn't bring you to the passcode, but some sort of menu that I never use.

I've been on iOS since iOS 6, and this is the first OS that I actively dislike. I'm on an iPhone 6, so maybe my phone is getting old, but still - a lot of the design elements and changes I could do without.

Siri has a horrible hearing problem lately for me on the latest betas. She misses so many words. Sometimes at the beginning of the sentence, sometimes the end, or both or in the middle. Or she won't hear me at all even though I'm yelling and swearing at her. Sometimes she only hears the swears and gets mad at me. For fucks sake I already have one girlfriend, I don't need another.

My battery monitor is a bit wonky too. The percentage will jump down suddenly from like 40% to under 20% instantly or when I plug it back in it will jump back quickly like it was never actually at 20%.

Setting shuffle on/off in the Music app is really, really badly designed.

As is pressing the home button instead of swiping to unlock the phone, I'm to old to change ...

And don't get me started on the whole iCloud/Photos stuff. The way to archive the pictures on my iPhone on my iMAC and getting rid of them on the iPhone + iCloud is still a mystery to me. Its a convoluted mess with no clear way of getting it done.

Messages can't save my preferred language setting per Chat => autocorrect mess is a given.

Using an iPad and besides notifications and pressing the home button twice to see the home screen, I think iOS10 is just fine. I never had a problem with it.
Pressing the home button twice is a touch of a genius, though.

'How do we force customers to upgrade? Kill their home button within a couple of years from purchase!'

I agree iOS 10 is crap. Having to go into setting to change music setting in the music app from artist to song name is bullshit.

Notifications on iOS are utter trash. You have Android to copy off Apple, but because of your pride you'll continue to leave it being total crap.

My iPhone 6 has died three times at well over 0%. Today it died at 65%! What the fuck?

I've learned to always carry a spare battery on me. Not so much because my phone will hit 0% but for cases exactly like that just so it 'resets' whatever bullshit mechanism.

iOS 10 is certainly a joke from a usability perspective, in my opinion. They've added steps to trivial actions and it's ridiculous. Part of the appeal of Apple was that things were organized in a way that made sense, but they've wrecked that ease of use in iOS 10. Deleting emails from the home screen have grown from 3 to 5 steps, and adding pages to the control center thing (where you swipe up from the bottom) has hidden things in a way that aggravate me.

Touch disease is becoming more and more common on my 6s Plus. I'm still upset about the swipe to open being gone, as well. Some notifications I can press and it opens the corresponding app, while other times I have to press the notification twice.

I've been trying to use the Music app more, but I wish they had user playlists. This is my main reason for sticking with Spotify.

I've had a few of these (the selecting of text is maddening and I've given up trying to copy paste things). The major issue I have with iOS is my music skipping during playback if the cellular network changes (from 3G to 4G, or connecting to a wifi network). This happens to music I have downloaded to the phone too so it shouldn't affect it, but it does.

I've resorted to turning off wifi when I'm walking around work or home.

I noticed this issue in iOS9 and I was hoping 10 would fix it, but it's actually worse. The small amount of research I've done on this issue is that it's been around for a long time and Apple haven't even acknowledge the problem exists.

I'm close to moving from Apple phones when I upgrade next. I'm really over it.

Looks like Apple has issued a repair program for some iPhone 6S which have been identified as having a battery issue:

https://www.apple.com/support/iphone6s-unexpectedshutdown/

This sounds very similar to the same program that affected some iPhone 5 models.

I've seen a lot of people, specifically with iPhone 6S in this thread complaining about it, so looks like you may have a recognised fault.

This is a little bit different in that with the iPhone 5 stuff it was very easy to tell with diagnostics that the battery was bad because it straight up failed the test. These batteries, for the most part, are still passing. Don't know why it's only a battery replacement but hey if it fixes the problem that's fine

Thanks for this, didn't know they had even acknowledged it, hopefully i can get mine replaced because i'm not sure i can see out the second year of my contract with this phone

Not a fan of it so far. I like the addition of news in notifications, richer message previews and bedtime. That's about it.

So am I out of luck with this replace program if I bought my 6s from some other store instead of directly from Apple?

Interesting. It does seem like there is an increased prevalence of the symptoms on iOS 10, but it could just be the timing of it more than anything. Or maybe it's brought the issue to light a bit more prominently. It makes you wonder how they sort the issue from just standard battery usage.

It's usually tracked by serial number. Repair programs are still valid so long as the phone hasn't been tampered with (i.e. had third party parts, unauthorised service etc.)

My dad's 6S started to randomly shut down when the battery went below 40% and the Apple Store said it was the logic board I think it's called in English. They gave me a new one despite not buying it at an Apple Store.

Weird that they are now just swapping batteries, my dad's battery showed up just fine at the diagnostic and they didn't mentioned it in the store at all.

With any issue that starts to surface, I figure Apple build up an idea of what the issue is. This kind of thing takes time and probably hundreds and thousands of cases to confirm. They will need to assess what the issue is and the best way to rectify it.

Until they officially announce a repair program (like they have now), they may actually replace an entire unit. This can help them to diagnose it to begin with and build tools to identify units with the issue, but also provides a better customer service.

And not all cases with the same symptoms are actually the same issue. As mentioned above, it would seem that these devices are currently passing the diagnostics. You can probably bet that they will change their diagnostic to be a blu to detect the fault with more time and cases.

For me personally, IOS 10 has been great but I'm still waiting for the News app to come to Belgium and predictive text for dutch language. It's been ages that the News app has been out yet it still hasn't come to most of Europe. (I do know I can get it if I change my region but I don't want to do that)

Have an iPhone 7 and a 6s plus and on both iOS 10 will freeze become unresponsive, won't switch apps or allow you to lock ththe device. Even pressing the buttons in to hard reset it don't work.

Getting really crappy

WTF, watchOS3 is awesome! What beef do you have with it?!
Excerpted cross-post:

Just got my Series 1 this morning.

Not sure what to feel. It's not what I expected.

1) Siri has no voice. I can't even have it read messages back while driving to make sure it heard my dictation correctly. Half the reason I bought the watch was for hands-free, eyes-on-the-road Siri, and it seems that's just not possible right now.

2) Why on earth can I not change the calendar that an event is on using my watch? It would literally be just another menu option to change the color of the event. Such limited functionality in places you need more, and too much functionality in places you don't (the animated emoji is nightmarish).
And some other quibbles. The overall complaint is that the level of flexibility from app to app is completely arbitrary. I can scribble text in Messages, yet I can't do the same in Maps to input an address. I can compose a text, but can't even compose a basic email message.

I don't like the feeling of not being "allowed" to do the most basic of tasks, when the functionality for them is already built-in.

Thing's I can't stand since the latest big update.

Unlocking my phone.

Moving apps around the home screen - I probably just don't understand how it works now and could solve it with a google search but it shouldn't have changed. I am referring to holding down on the app to give the X to remove it or shift it around etc, it's stupidly painful to get it to appear now.

E-mail chains. Far out this is bad now. If you have an e-mail with multiple replies to it from different people etc it's such a pain in the ass to view the e-mails in any kind of order that makes sense, it seems to be random and e-mails repeat themselves. I give up reading them on my phone now.

Yeah I understand that, I just thought their diagnostics tools were mature enough to recognize of it's the logic board or the battery.

But I also know that this program may not be about my dad's problem specifically, my brother's 6s+ and a friends 5s are having what sounds like the same issues.

I've had zero issues on an iPhone 7. Then again, I wish I could disable the crap in Messages (no one I know uses this, although the balloons that appear after saying "congratulations!" are okay) and I don't use really the lock screen at all except for checking notifications and responding to messages.

Notifications are indeed a mess, though. Group by app and only show the most recent N ones, please.

Other than that, I love it for the new version of Maps alone (I live in DC, so the transit information's nice, and I like being able to hail an Uber with it). It's totally replaced Google Maps for me.

To the best of my knowledge, I haven't encountered any of the issues in this thread, or at least not with a frequency/severity to leave an impression or taint my overall positive opinion of iOS.

I like iOS 10 just fine; I don't find in significantly better or worse than previous versions. To me, it's the same as it ever was. I do have small stutters/freezes here an there, but the phone never becomes unresponsive or crashes. Overall am. very happy with my iPhone
6 Plus
.

Also this:

I really cant believe how bad it is. Freezing, crashing, the most obnoxious development is that autocorrect is completely broken for me and typing has become a total chore. Im really amazed how far things have fallen. Quality used to be a gold standard for apple stuff. Jobs is rolling in his grave.

Uh, I use it on 3 devices heavily and I haven't had a single crash since launch. Ok, maybe one. Sad that these kinds of weak and trollish threads with so little thought put into them get such a high degree of validation and responses, especially with eye-rolling, cliched memes like the last sentence. iOS10 is by far the most power, stable, and robust iOS ever, and a massive leap from iOS9. Maybe fix your device instead of blaming the OS and claiming to know what SJ would think.

WatchOS 3 is even worse. It ruined the Apple Watch for me. I hate that they cut that quick Contact wheel.

Is it really "even worse"? Is that why literally every single review praises OS3 as the OS the watch should have launched with, and that finally makes it more intuitive and useful? Ok, if you say so.

I don't usually have anything bad to say about iOS but my watch decided to factory reset itself today while I was wearing it so I felt the need to vent!

I've had the watch about 1 year. In that time it has been 100% reliable, until watch OS3. Now the bloody thing crashes at least once a week, randomly changes the watch face and today totally reset to factory settings for no reason at all... I am not impressed. I need my watch to actually work!

I had to completely unpair it from my phone and then re setup the whole thing from a backup. Garbage.

My wife upgraded hers about 1 week before me and has been having crashes ever since crashes too, wish I had taken her experience as a warning and stuck with the older OS version!

I have a 6 running iOS 10 as a work phone and boy did notifications take a step back imo

Haven't had any performance issues or major bugs although I don't use it constantly you like my personal phone.

Is that you, Tim?

If my device needs to be "fixed" then I guess I should blame the hardware manufacturer, oh wait that's apple too.

I've had these bugs, annoying. But aside from that, it's a great update IMO. The Home app is awesome.
its trash. so much wasted space in the music app. having to swipe down just to go back to your music library. the absolute shit icloud/local music merge "feature" (all it did was erase all my local music). and removing the swipe to unlock with "widgets" (i still try to swipe to unlock and end up loading like 30 widgets instead).

Whoever redesigned the control center (I think that's what it's called; its when you swipe up) should be fired. Having to swipe right to manage your music is so annoying. And I have no need for air drop or mirroring my fucking display!

Its unnecessarily complicated with the main features your likely to use pushed to the side for newer but far more situational features.

I really didn't like that change.

but now there are 3 flashlight settings, lol

I've been running iOS 10 since the moment it was available without issue... I read this thread and suddenly my phone "dies" today when it was showing 50% battery life

You idiots cursed me
