Show us your RETRO Gaming Setup

That is an awesome setup!

The GF and I are exploring a cubby like solution for my setup, so I have to ask. Did you build those yourself (the cubbies holding your systems) or is that something you bought in a store?

Luckily my dad is a pensioned contracter, so he pretty much renovated my entire house (built in the 1930's) by himself (with some help from me and others of course). That includes all the shelves you see. So I guess if you're handy with this kinda thing, you can build it yourself.

It's not too bad actually, I never really have to dust. It's only noticable on the glass plates on the display shelves.

More things to be envious about I guess. Everything I have that isn't in a case/behind glass ends up with dust all over it. I don't even keep all my retro systems out anymore until I can get around to making a better case for them because I hate having to clean them.

So, I did a couple things to my setup, time to show off a couple of new pics!

I finally did some cable management, added an RGB modded AV Famicom, and installed colour changing LED lights in every cubicle!

I think I'm finally happy with this setup now. Everything runs through RGB switches, so I don't have to hot swap cables anymore, everything's plugged in, and looking great upscaled. The only changed I'd make at this point is maybe a couple more pieces of art on the wall (What you can't see is a Phantasy Star 3 poster hanging above the Genesis).

...Oh, and I might maybe have to eventually possible add a PC Engine to this mess... ;)

fuckin' gorgeous, Btails

what kinda lights are you using in the cubbies?

I bought the Dioder lights from Ikea: they're little pucks that come in packs of 4. They're really thin and come with double sided stickies to mount them.

The one problem is that you can't daisy chain them, so I have three AC adapters plugged in to power the three (4 x 3 sets)

One remote per set too, so if I want to chane the colour, I have to do it on three seperate remotes, heh.

Right, posted this in another thread but it fits here. Not pictured is my JVC 17" RGB CRT as it's in another room.

Japanese N64, Saturn and Super Famicom Jr. PAL PSone and Asian (region free) Mega Drive 1. All connected via RGB to the framemeister. List of mods I carried out myself:

Mega Drive: 50/60hz and region switch installed. I also cut composite to eliminate jailbars and wired it up for c-sync.

PSone: Installed mod chip.

Saturn: installed mod chip

N64: installed phono audio sockets at the back for clear audio. RGB mod was already installed when I got it.

Super Famicom Jr: Installed RGB amp and wired the console for c-sync. Installed digital audio circuit to take audio directly from the sound hardware on the console and output to my amp via an optical port at the back. Result is the clearest sound a SNES can output.

I would add more but I've ran out of space.

yeah, see i was all about that classic mario art, but ill be damned if i'm not stealing that konami idea now! only, i gotta use their last logo....
oh, and that sonic statue is so cool too!

True, but I only had that sticker left. I'd never buy a modern-era Konami sticker.

My game room is coming along.

This is an old Japanese monitor that I connect my X68k, PC-98, FM-Towns and Twin Famicom into.

This is a VGA monitor that runs at 24 KHz. It's only good for "newer" PC98s.

My new MSX. I only have Snatcher for it.

Shining stuff

Sega and Phantasy Star shelves

My new Sonic 25th anniversary 3D crystal.

Danganronpa shelf

This is where I've put my Dreamcast.

It's almost getting to where I like it. I think I need another Ikea billy and I really need to figure out how to organize my consoles. Although, once my gscartsw arrives things might start to make a bit more sense on that end.

jesus, the PC98 software alone, nevermind all that glorious hardware (marty towns & such), goddamn

nice stuff man! and i'm a big fan of the Phantasy Star shelf!

This SNES games in that official rack are upside down, IMO. Why not be able to read the labels?

Gamecube adapter for the N64 with a wavebird hooked up? Baller.

I love looking at retro set ups. They're so much more appealing looking than modern set ups for some reason. Maybe I'll take some pictures of mine at some point.

Thanks. I've gotten really lucky with both of those. For the PC98, I got them all in a lot for a decent price. Unfortunately, a lot of the games are on 5-1/4 inch floppies and my PC-98s only have 3.5 inch drives. I've only gotten into the PC98 since getting my new job in July.

For Phantasy Star, we coincidentally went to Japan during the Phantasy Star 25th anniversary celebration and Sega re-released a lot of Rare merch. I've seen the soundtrack go for over 100 on ebay but I only spent 30 on it. The art books are really rare too but I think I only spent around 20 each.

Oh, god. I don't know how that hasn't bugged me. Those are our most played games too. In my defense, it's only been like that for a couple months since we've moved.

This pic.

Holy shit.

Is that like two stories high of games?!

Yes, I have to use a ladder to reach the top.

Damn impressive, I like the lighting.

Holy shit!!!

You win!!!

Thanks guys!

Am I blind? Where is your TV/monitor?

I said dayum. But this is just the library... where does the actual magic happen?

Sorry, here it is:

I use a Panasonic PT-AE7000U as my projector. I don't really notice any input lags so I'm very happy with my setup.

Out of most of the setups here, this is basically my goal. Though I don't have near enough consoles in my future setup, everything else looks spot-on. Very nice!

OK, let's get back down to Earth.

This is a very small room compared to many others in this thread. And besides gaming room, it needs to function as home office and a guest room.

So, we have two tables in the corners, lots of storage space and a sofa. That's pretty much it. The biggest problem I have had is to find a way to have both Amiga and C64 on display. It's not perfect, but will do for now.

You make good use of space with the shelving there. Is that AmigaOS on the monitor? I've always wanted one since I was taken to a PC-recycling shop as a kid.

I love this, it looks like an office you'd see in one of those old game hotline walk-through number companies.

That's actually a whopping 21" TV. The amiga 1200 here is running Classic Workbench.

Thanks. I guess :) Now there's an idea. That might be the style I should be aiming for, given the small space. I need to do some image searching.

Thanks! I really wanted something clean, and not too overwhelming. I love seeing the massive collections in this thread (And am a bit jealous), but I think my wife would probably divorce me if I tried to build something like that, haha.
