The Pokedex entries for Sun and Moon are outta control

Let's admit it: Pokedex entries are dubious at best. Whether Pokemon are tangling with Indian elephants or being hotter than the sun, the Pokedex reports on strange details regarding the wonderful and family friendly world of Pokemon.

However, the entries have gone completely bonkers in Sun and Moon. It reads like the Necronomicon now. Here are just a few entries.

Gengar
Sun
Should you feel yourself attacked by a sudden chill, it is evidence of an approaching Gengar. There is no escaping it. Give up.
Moon
It apparently wishes for a traveling companion. Since it was once human itself, it tries to create one by taking the lives of other humans.
...WHAT

Golbat

Sometimes they drink so much blood, they can't fly anymore. Then they fall to the ground and become food for other pokemon.
Nobody likes Golbat but damn.

Toxapex

Toxapex crawls along the ocean floor on its 12 legs. It leaves a trail of Corsola bits scattered in its wake.
Corsola is a little cute pink Pokemon by the way.

Palossand
Buried beneath the castle are masses of dried-up bones from those whose vitality it has drained.
Yes the phrase "masses of dried-up bones" is in a Pokemon game.

Komala
It is born asleep, and it dies asleep. All its movements are apparently no more than the results of it tossing and turning in its dreams.
Please tell me more about how this koala dies, Pokedex.

Froslass
Sun
When it finds humans or Pokémon it likes, it freezes them and takes them to its chilly den, where they become decorations.
Moon
The soul of a woman lost on a snowy mountain possessed an icicle, becoming this Pokémon. The food it most relishes is the souls of men
I seriously don't know which one is more terrifying.

Mimikyu
Its actual appearance is unknown. A scholar who saw what was under its rag was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock.
Ok I will call BS on this one, that is totally a story someone made up in fifth grade.

Share more/flee in terror.

Why are the Pokedex Entries so creepy now? They used to be straightforward facts about the Pokemon, not creepypastas. I don't remember X/Y doing this.

The Golbat one is super funny.

Most horrifying is Bewear to me, although the one about Primape committing inadvertent suicide because of how angry they are is up there.

They've always been creepy pastas. Basically the major change they made was editorializing it a bit more ("Give up") and removing the ridiculous nonsense like all the ones in the original Dex, so now they seem more real. Gen V has the Pokemon that is actually a crying human trapped in a Pokemon body.

Then you also have NPCs in cemeteries freely discussing grave plot arrangements. "I would like to be buried right here next to my rockruff when I die". Pokemon Sun and Moon is fast and free with death on Alola.

Alola means goodbye to the mortal coil

This is good, more media should be open with death.

Wow, looks like they took the lavender town creepiness and cranked it all the way up.

Pokemon seems like a series which is superficially very child friendly but if you dig deeper the mechanics can be complex and the story dark

Yea...Pokemon has changed...last one I played was Gold
O.o

Changed? Pokemon has always had creepy Pokedex entries. Here is the entry for Haunter in Yellow.

By licking, it saps the victim's life. It causes shaking that won't stop until the victim's demise.

Is this one Yamask?

Probably my favorite one so far, though i'm not too far into Moon.

Drifloon, Moon

If for some reason its body bursts, its soul spills out with a screaming sound.

I love the disconnect between the tone/visuals/story of having kids training and fighting these creatures with smiles on their faces and the lore behind the creatures and the world. It's honestly quite fascinating and very amusing.

No mention of Shedinja?

Pokédex Entry for Ruby:
Shedinja's hard body doesn't move - not even a twitch. In fact, its body appears to be merely a hollow shell. It is believed that this Pokémon will steal the spirit of anyone peering into its hollow body from its back.

Keep in mind that when using a Pokémon in combat, you have a view from behind it.

And the fact that this thing steals a Pokéball and invades your team as a result of you evolving another Pokémon (Nincada).

I really appreciate Toxapex being a direct reference to its inspiration, the crown-of-thorns starfish.

Sun's entries are much more consistently dark, which is super weird. Here's Araquanid:

Sun:
It delivers headbutts with the water bubble on its head. Small Pokémon get sucked into the bubble, where they drown.
Moon:
Despite what its appearance suggests, it cares for others. If it finds vulnerable, weak Pokémon, it protectively brings them into its water bubble.

The Pokenomicon

I like these descriptions. Pokemon are part of am ecosystem, they gotta eat and love life too... Can't all be flowers and rainbows.

The best ones are for Salazzle and Tsareena. Both of these are from Sun.

Salazzle: "For some reason, only females have been found. It creates a reverse harem of male Salandit that it lives with"

Tsareena: "Its long, striking legs aren’t just for show but to be used to kick with skill. In victory, it shows off by kicking the defeated, laughing boisterously."

And Nintendo wants to STOP porn? Granted these are more sexy than scary but i still classify them under outta control.

How is that sand castle a Pokemon? These designs are awful let alone their Pokedex entries.
The sandcastle is super cute. Just think of it as a sand based golem from Mythology.

Also it's sort of clever because it is ghost/ground. So it's a haunted castle. A pretty common idea made sort of unique because it's typing lets them play with the idea of being a castle that is small enough to be moving around with a trainer.

When I was a kid I remember wishing to live in Pokemon-world because it seemed super cool and friendly. I would probably be scared to even leave my house if I actually lived there now. Pretty much everything in that damn world is a Pokemon that might kill you now. It has almost reach Australia levels of horrible. It reminds me a bit of Planescape Torment were everything could be a fucking portal to another dimension with no way to return. I would live in constant fear and agony.
