Survival mode is NOT messing around.
So I have a couple of questions regarding the game...and the update.
Is base building available in all modes? And do we have ice/snow planets in the game? I'm assuming yes for both, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Dude, just stop.I actually haven't been harping on HG or NMS from the beginning. I was actually excited early on then tempered my expectations before release and was on the fence. I didn't jump on HG until the game was released and my concerns were manifested during and after release. I didn't hop on the "but what do you do" bandwagon since I took a wait and see approach. After release, I started to voice my concern and not nearly to the same level as some with threats, class action lawsuits (lol), etc. I voiced my concern only on what became tangible enough to do so - namely consumer advocacy.
As for weight - I have none, but do feel compelled to speak up as a dev as HG is in my group of peers, something I want to make sure that plenty of us don't stand for the garbage they spewed as we don't feel what they did was right. Again, advocating for the consumer.
I'll also call people out who choose to pull single sentences from what I write and spin them away from the context of the entire post in an effort to counter what I say in an attempt to put words in my mouth. I even asked for legit arguments against my points in context and even asked for them in PMs but nobody wants to argue against them when they get called out - so we wind up with posts like yours and the one you quoted. If you're not going to argue my points and provide a better, more salient argument - don't respond.
In short: pay attention. I'm not the guy calling for their heads like so many others - I'm the guy calling for them to address the actual concerns of consumers and stop playing the victim card. Don't confuse that with stalking their offices, calling for lawsuits and leveling threats.
If addressing actual consumer complaints is a problem and you are Ok with developers hand-waving their mistakes when they've already got your money - that's fine, but don't be under the illusion that it's the right thing to do because it's not and don't hate on people who believe in accountability. I don't believe in hand-waving away concerns.

Game with TAA certainly looks better than with FXAA.
Go to the game's folder, then GAMEDATA and delete SHADERCACHE folder there. Launch the game and let it recompile all the shaders again.
I haven't downloaded this yet. But what exactly is playable right now of all these improvements, and what is a "foundation" for future things to come?
Is it worth turning the game back on to test anything?
Update is kinda pointless to me if to use most of the cool new features you have to grind for resources for hours...
Anyone? I'm confused by the replies since it seems everything in the patch notes us playable. If so, the notes are confusing.

God forbid you'd have to work for the cool stuff. What's the point of giving it all to you straight up?
What if you can only name ships... that you build yourself?Next update needs to simply be about letting me name my ship.
I just want to name my ship.
Please.
That's all I want.
Im actually most interested in how survival mode plays out. One of the issues with the game was it was just too easy after a while and lost a bit of the 'game' element because of it. If survival has all the same features as the other modes but you really have to work for stuff now, i could see that being a big improvement.

Man, that persecution complex in that tweet.
Just booted it up, getting out of a planet is definitely smoother and faster.
First time I did it I heard a bazillion warp drives going off, I turned around and saw this

This already happens does it not?Damn that's what I'm talking about, just need big groups of them to be fighting battles like in the trailer.

Edit for clarity :
EVERYTHING INCLUDING BASE BUILDING IS AVAILABLE IN THE NORMAL MODE. SURVIVAL AND CREATIVE ARE JUST ALTERNATE GAME MODES WITH SEPARATE RULESETS.
There is a creative mode where you can build for free if you don't want to play the "ressources" game.
You can try the new big features without any grinding
Anyone else notice the Xbox prompts in the patch notes link. Screenshot is of the new UI. Sorry on mobile. If already discussed my bad
Honestly my biggest concern is the planet generation itself. In the game that launched every single planet had essentially the same playable content on it. You could get every upgrade ever by exploring any one planet. Every planet had caves, buildings, most of the same resources, and I don't think I ever found a planet with zero life. Add that there was very little to do in space (where asteroids were EVERYWHERE).
- Introduced planets with elevated building density
- Introduced planets with no buildings or sentient life
- Increased the proportion of lush and tropical planets
- Decreased the proportion of lifeless planets
.Atmospherics
- Increased proportion of vibrant blue skies
- Corrected cloud levels for clear skies
- Improved average cloud level settings
- Fixed cloud rendering while flying in your ship
- Improved atmosphere depth when transitioning to space
- Increased fidelity of atmosphere rendering on nearest planet
- Improved atmospheric fog as you fly to a planet
- Improved fog method for planets seen on the horizon
No. Base building was not a concern and yes, they aren't addressing the number one concern:Dude, just stop.
You are somehow pretending that working their asses off to fix a game that they have no real chance of getting many extra sales out of is waving away concerns?
Hand-waving away concerns would be them announcing a new game and acting like everything is fine.
Your argument doesn't match reality now that we know they're still working on it. Actions are a hell of a lot louder than words. They are addressing the actual concerns of their consumers by their actions, but you are upset because you wanted words?
What if you can only name ships... that you build yourself?
Creative mode is the best in my opinion.
Did anybody get any trophies while playing a Creative?
No. Base building was not a concern and yes, they aren't addressing the number one concern:

Where is the game everyone was sold in interviews, PR and trailers?
You can't rewrite history so this argument of yours that they are addressing concerns isn't reality.

If anyone here wants to continue to call me out it would be nice if you guys stuck to facts and not spin the issue like the poster above. Revisionism isn't an argument you can make.
Unless HG addresses the concerns that everyone has raised regarding the game they were sold vs the game they bought, they won't be able to shake the negativity no matter how hard some loyalists try to spin the truth.
You can either accept that this whole patch addresses none of the main concerns or just ignore those of us who still want some accountability.
The thing is they added and improve much more then that.I'm sorry, but they promised base building and freighters immediately after they released the game. Of course the first big update won't fix the main problems with the game -- they promised another content. What people are expecting? They should've forget about base building and add multiplayer or what?
